I love the Halo series, it has a very unique story and fun multiplayer, apparently you've never played any.
Let me tell you a little story:
Bungie was making an RTS game, which would be for both PC and Mac. This was what Halo was originally going to be. At the time, Microsoft wanted to enter the console market because they wanted to make more money and leave PC gaming for dead. They didn't have a good release-date exclusive for their Xbox (the first one, not the Xbox 360), so they bought out Bungie, made them turn Halo into a console-suited FPS, made it a release-day exclusive for the Xbox... and the rest is history.
I wish I could go back in time and alter the course of history so that Bungie went bankrupt before they started to make Halo. Then Microsoft either releases the Xbox without any good release titles, it fails just like every game console made by an American company ever since the Atari 2600. Or Microsoft wisely ditches the idea and carry on.
PC gaming and console gaming coexisted peacefully before Microsoft had to go and **** it up (not without a little help from fellow American game companies like ActiVision and EA). Just like how they ****ed up the operating system market with Windows.
Some things should never be brought to the masses.
They're already dying because it's all about IN YOUR FACE EXTREME LEVEL UP MULTIPLAYER MURDER DEATH KILL ACTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think if more FPS games with amazing single player or at least co op stories come out there is hope
Thoose were my brothers words not mine, he's the one who thought FPS's were dying. Personally i think your wrong, with the new Battlefield 3 it's gonna be different from the huge mega mainstream games such as CoD; where kill streaks give you an unfair advantage.

Windows is an excellent operating system, i like the simplicity of everything and the easy ways of doing stuff. Plus it's fast.
Naw FPS would never be gone, and if it was ever gone, there would be others to play, and besides, there are so many topics to make about with fps games in the first place, so its all good right now.

In order to fully understand Minecraft, one must go through the horror of the Creeper...
CoD and Halo are killing FPSs. They both were good during the first few games, but now its just beating a dead horse for money. There are still good FPSs, and hopefully they'll stay that way.
the FPS's genre lacks innnovation and creative ideas. atm its all just the same. COD MW3 and crysis 2 have the same settings, so does battefield 3. a good example of a good "FPS" game is Heroes of Might and Magic: Dark Messiah. its a fantasy FPS. instead of the random "modern warfare" FPS games.
Battlefield 3 brought something new to the market.

@Immodium: RTSs outnumbered FPSs in the 90's.
Halo and CoD are still very popular games, and it would only be "beating a dead horse" if no one cared about the game and they were trying to revive interest in it.
Millions of people still show great interest in the games, so how is it in anyway a dead horse?
I meant COD and Halo. They were both good games at first, but now they are just remaking the same thing over and over again for money and the fanbase is too stupid to notice it.

I do not care about call of duty, but that isn't true with halo because they constantly change things, and every sequel/spin off from halo is distinctly different. The only real remake is halo: CE anniversary.
The fan base from what I have seen complains about the changes from halo to halo.
The thing that stays the same (most of the time) is the "core game play" of halo, and saying that is a bad thing is silly.
The real joke here is that many games "stay similar and constantly do the same thing over", even indie games fall to this 'trap' if I recall.
Wait what? FPS dying? No, they're not. The annoying fact is that FPSs are one of the most popular genres and have been for a while. Think of how many big FPS games were released within the past year. Think of how many big FPS games were announced this E3.
If you want to talk about dying genres, then let's talk about Real Time Strategy games. Think of how many big RTS games release within the past year. Think of how many big RTS games were announced at E3.
See, the difference is that you have no trouble naming FPS games that were released or announced. With RTS games, however, you probably said "StarCraft II" and "StarCraft II" and then couldn't think of any others.
Animation (New level of Fps realism), graphics, exciting game play, destruction (You can demolish entire buildings with people still inside unlike CoD, and falling pieces can actually kill players if large enough), freedom (The ability to drive vehicles and such), Brand new Engine, scale, rendering, large maps (Way bigger maps more PC players), and award winning audio.

It was my bro who said they would be gone or barely surviving.
You're not. I actually had Catacomb Abyss back in the day.

You would be terrible at arguing.
Battlefield 3 brought something new to the market.
You trusted a WIKI, which can be edited by anyone.
And I wasn't?
And what would that be, exactly?

I thought reach's game play was pretty cool, could have had a better plot though.*
*DISCLAIMER: this is a opinion, like most of what is said here on this thread.
this is the sad truth

Here's some videos proving what i just said.
It's more evidence than you've presented to the contrary.
