No. I don't beleive that are going to ever die. FPS games have been around for a long time since well the start of video games (per say). From Doom to Castle Wolfestien (pardon my spelling) to the Call of Duty series FPS games attract alot of attention from their players ranging from ages of 6 and up to 60. The only thing I see deing are the series of FPS games like Call of Duty and Battle Field.
Lol what? I know people who still play quake 3. So yeah, I don't think so. But if so, what genre is going to replace it? I can't think of any suitable enough.
I feel like they are. FPS's have all taken under the same format. Level up, get guns, rage quit. The CoD series especially SHOULD die. I want it to :smile.gif:
Bread and butter shooters like CoD? Meh.. probably not. Original/ real men shooters (at least on consoles), he's probably right about that, so he's half right. If only we could get some more originality in the genre (i.e. a new Team Fortress, TimeSplitters 4, or even updates on TF2's console versions, since the PS3 now has steam as well) or get a 4th Unreal Tournament on consoles/ PC. (hopefully done much better than UT3 was) Though, it doesn't have to be a sequel of any of those series to be original or awesome (as in an arena shooter).
By the way, no other FPS does classes better than TF2 imo. Too bad, even my better PC (the other one isn't even working atm) can only barely handle TF2 and it can't handle UT3's PC version at all.

"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
Wait what? FPS dying? No, they're not. The annoying fact is that FPSs are one of the most popular genres and have been for a while. Think of how many big FPS games were released within the past year. Think of how many big FPS games were announced this E3.
If you want to talk about dying genres, then let's talk about Real Time Strategy games. Think of how many big RTS games release within the past year. Think of how many big RTS games were announced at E3.
See, the difference is that you have no trouble naming FPS games that were released or announced. With RTS games, however, you probably said "StarCraft II" and "StarCraft II" and then couldn't think of any others.
I just wish that Halo brought something, anything, new to the table. As far as I'm concerned, the FPS genre peaked at Perfect Dark and has been going downhill ever since.
I never really cared much for Halo, but I wouldn't say that. Now, Call of Duty, that's a different story. I might of never played it, but I've played a similar game or two and they're spreading like wildfire. (unlike Halo) Point taken, Halo's not even nearly as bad at having wannabes as CoD. It's even somewhat original, but if you want a better deviation, then arena shooters (Unreal, Quake), TF2, and possibly games like TimeSplitters (more than career/ story mode, a **** ton of characters (without the need of different armor pieces), a bunch of weapons, a level builder, and most importantly, no level up BS) are your best bet. Well, at least for me, they are.
Edit: I don't feel it's not as much of CoD's fault as it is other developers' lack of originality, with a dash of greed. (i.e. "Me to, plus new features that you may or may not care about" type games)

Was an avid Quake 2 player, in UK leagues/competitions. Didn't get into Q3, didn't like the jump pads. And I thought the release of Counter Strike was the downfall of FPS (for me personally, not into modern day FPS games).
Comparing every FPS I played to Q2 and not even coming close to how it felt I stopped playing FPS for years. This Firefall looks awesome though.
The only Quake I've ever played was the third and honestly, I like Jump Pads, especially in UT2k4 and UT3. They sure beat climbing up stupid ladders. Actually, how would ladders even fit in an arena shooter? You'd be dead before you even reached the top (possibly even before you're halfway up) in an arena shooter and not just because of johnny the camping sniper or shotgun joes. Basically, they make making elevated levels so much easier, unless you're the type that likes quad or infi-jumping. Honestly, I prefer double. It's not realistic at all, but it's a lot more fun, especially when you throw in jumping off of walls.
They're already dying because it's all about IN YOUR FACE EXTREME LEVEL UP MULTIPLAYER MURDER DEATH KILL ACTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think if more FPS games with amazing single player or at least co op stories come out there is hope
That's another thing I liked about TimeSplitters. We had co-op and storylines that didn't follow basic war-game format, if they were even an original storyline at all. By original, I mean the game wasn't based on war that happened in the past. (namely WWII) We also had Challenge mode and Arcade League, for extra, non-level making, multiplayer (could be up to 4-player split-screen btw), and career/ story mode stuff to do. Getting all golds and silvers can be fairly tough, especially in the earlier two games (out of three). Getting all platinums takes even longer, but you're MLG if you can.

My stupid brother did, he said they were dying out right now and would be pretty much gone within 5 years.

I love the Halo series, it has a very unique story and fun multiplayer, apparently you've never played any.

I know right, someone has a negative opinion about something so their entire logic is flawed automatically.[/sarcasm]
On-Topic: I highly doubt it will be gone in 5 years. There is a chance it'll die out eventually, but not five years.
