Ah, finally set up an actual trade depot. With water filling/draining systems, for those pesky elves...
I kinda get confused wtih the whole trading thing. That's something else I need to pick up. Also, the filling/draining thing. Best I've done is built a floodgate..

Just read the wiki on stuff like pump stacks, windmills, ect... and you will have a kill-chamber/trade depot in no time.
It's getting to the point that I systematically slaughter pets/migrants as they arrive. I have a magma chamber now.
My FPS can't handle 50 dogs, 50 cats and 200 dwarves.
Yeah don't be suprised. This game is very taxing on one's system, once you have tonssss of stuff. That's one of the main reasons the graphics stay simple. I like them that way.
i like this game alot i come back to it here and there i really dont know what to do first what is wrong and what is good and yet i still go back to it i just need to learn the basics is there any tuts out there? for latest DF? also any good texture pack should make things lil easier
I'm making a WCIII FT map. Just thought I'd mention that one of the heroes is named URIST and he is a dwarf. I'll do pictures later.
I haven't gotten to making skills yet, (still on triggers and textures and terrain) but I'm thinking he'll have abilities such as Mandate, Mood, Pull the Lever... etc... post suggestions?
Description:
Stupid Dwarf. Escaped Boatmurdered in the year 1063, the Age of Myth. He has wandered the world since, gibbering madly about elephants and lava.
I just skipped ahead to work on him. Back to terrain/texturing/triggers/unit editing and the like.

No one escaped Boatmurdered. No one, but whats-his-name... The double-sword guy.
I found a huge cavern today. I finally was able to make a room for every one of my dwarves as well. I haven't met all their demands though, as some want a nice office. I did find a huge expansive cavern. When I did, I got into a fight with a troll, then some cave dwelling people that could shoot darts. Semi epic battle, no one died. There is this one dwarf that's wounded kinda badly, and he wouldn't rest went the doctors tried to help him. I need a real hospital..
I just got this game today. It is AMAZING. I'm still learning the ropes, of course, but it's too much fun.
So, here's a thread for talking 'bout Dwarf Fortress.
What's with the cats dragging carcasses into my fort?
An utterly, utterly, brilliant game. If they would add just two things, that being 'graphics' and 'a user interface', it would perhaps rule the world. It amazes me there's no other games out there like it. :smile.gif:
Graphics can be solved with a tileset, and the interface can be solved with a program known as Dwarf Therapist.
Yeah for anyone trying out DF for the first time, get those ^ ... and run through the tutorial. after that, run through the game a few times testing everything and see how things work. I abandoned about 8 forts before I actually started playing the game. Once you get the basics down, DF isn't too difficult to play and gets incredibly addictive.
It has DF with it, so just use it as a separate installation. If you have a save game you wish to use though.. there's a small guide about transferring them over.
My fortress is located in a relatively cold region and the merchants have just left and its becoming winter.
Now the problem is i need water to soil the earth so i can make an underground farm. But this doesn't work because the water is frozen. Luckily i have lots of alcohol so drinks shouldn't really be an issue.

I had a VERY similiar issue, my fort basically crumbled because of no water. Remember one thing though, if your dwarfs go into battle and they get hurt.. they need water. They don't want alcohol when sick/injured.

I don't know if I can cross link threads, and I don't care to test it. Look for my forum post under "Other Games" about a Warcraft III custom map.

Do you have an aquifer?
