The newest gem from Nicklas "Nifflas" Nygren, Saira is a platformer with similarities to his main former series Knytt Stories. Embellishing in EVERYTHING he creates, I had to make this topic.
WARNING: LONG, WINDING STORY AHEAD
The story goes as so; Saira, Saira's female protaganist (imagine that!), is a far-future space-age explorer. She is far out in the cosmos when she hears news that her close friend on Mars has had a terrible accident. Her space vessel far too slow to reach Mars in even a matter of years, Saira decides to take the risky and quick decision to teleport to Mars. However, the technology at this point is dangerous at best. She successfully teleports to Mars, but only to find that everyone is gone, presumably herself being protected from the disaster by the act of teleporting at the moment it happened. Regardless not just Mars. She searches for years to find any trace of existing human life, until she finds an investigates a radio signal one day. She discovers one remaining human, Bobo, on a wastelandic planet. They both believe that they were saved from... ceasing to exist... by teleporting at the time. They return to Earth to search a renowned underwater laboratory where teleportation was first accomplished. During their stay, Bobo was absorbed by an ancient teleporter in a horrific accident. Continuing alone, Saira has to connect the pieces of the puzzle and hopefully restore humanity.
Gameplay:
You play as Saira, exploring various planets with unique and captivating landscapes, in search of parts to repair your homebrew teleporter. You solve many puzzles by finding clues like codes and sequences which can be used with various devices on the planets. Your spaceship requires battery power to move from planet to planet, so you also have to keep your ship's impulse charges... charged. Taking pictures with your in-game camera is a significant mechanic in the game, so you can store clues and identify unknown creatures. I've only played part of the demo, so I can't say much. It can get kind of hard at parts.
