So, I had to make this topic solely out of curiosity on the subject. I've been having a Final Fantasy Tactics itch the size of Texas that needs to be scratched but I don't want the same old FFT experience, I want a new one. I don't have a psp so I can't mod the psp version for new things.
It seems to me that the turn-based tactical section of gaming all-together is...dormant. I've heard of Tactics Ogre but I don't own any playstations except the Vita and do not care to buy a psp game on an advanced system. War of the Lions is my prime disappointment.
Anyways, I wanted to know if anybody knew of any good FFT-styled games. I love the whole tactical aspect of the game, and the fact that height is implemented into combat is amazing, there's a certain romance that the genre and style has that's got me interested in it.
The topic should be for games in general of the genre but if anyone knows of games with tile sets, a height influence (if a ranger is on high ground he can hit further targets) classes, armor/weapon/accessory customization/etc. please send a link in pm
And what are your preferences? What games do you remember from the past that you wish games today could follow the idea of, or transform?
I've seen a lot of Let's Plays on x com but what keeps me at bay is that I have a subpar laptop with an integrated graphics card anything more than hd textures makes my laptops fan run hard and cause my pc to shut off from overheating.

It doesn't require a beefy PC at all. here's the specs:
The core Pokemon games (Red, Blue, Gold, Silver, etc.) don't have SRPG combat in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics. That said, I'm pretty sure I saw that there's a Pokemon SRPG spin-off for the DS (did a quick look on amazon, it's called Pokemon Conquest) that does. No idea if it's any good.
Wasteland 2. It's more of an RPG, but combat is turn-based. I've already sunk quite a bit of time into it. If you love dark, post-apocalyptic stuff, it's worth getting.

It looks beautiful, the controls are a little iffy but you get used to them and the overall game is amazing. The voice acting is meh though.
