So I'm DMing a game for the family. I've got some interesting questing points.
The characters:
Arkar Markenbolt - A drow sorcerer, level 21 (character from a previous game)
Graril - A gnome wizard, also level 21.
Bruumar - level 21 Warlock.
Smeg - Level 4 rogue goblin
Sir Ironheart - Level 4 Warforged fighter.
Stella - Level 4 High Elf bard
Deadly-Terror - Sahuagin barbarian, level 3.
It started with an elf vs orc war, Stella was hurt by a dire orc and Ironheart had his good hand crushed. They were discharged to the city of Haja, where they met Graril and Arkar. They heard of the tomb of Ragdul (a king of the entire continent) and raided it with an awesome boss fight. Graril told the group that the current continental ruler started the elven-orc war for the money and soldiers given from other continents to 'keep the peace', though he is just power and money-hungry.
Graril tells them of a godsword that has fallen from the skies in the forest, and that the orcs that crushed. They went looking for it and found shadow-like creatures. The knights of insanity, anger, and envy. They end up winning the fight against these creatures, and the godsword splits itself into three swords, all being surprisingly light. When they return, Graril tells them he needed the group (Stella, deadly-terror and Ironheart) to verify multiple sources that could lead to exposing the high king.
Deady-Terror is to go to a ruined vampires tomb, to talk to the vampire name Vriddish. Sir Ironheart is to talk to the demented, outer-universal plague ridden, trap artist and gremlin - Slick Rick, whom can find information anywhere in the world by thinking about it. Stella (whom is great at sneaking) needs to break a dromite out of a live dungeon.
Plans I have is that Arkar (whom hangs with Graril) will be hanged, and people will be giving birth to spiders and a huge plague will break out, the sun will no longer rise and demons from Hell will invade as a response. Graril will take the group to find Bruumar, the orcish warlock, whom will end the plague and resurrect Arkar. Eventually the group will have an awesome boss battle and take down Delthyr Zahl (The high king) and as he dies he will talk about a prophecy about a flaming tree.
I'm trying to make an awesome story, it's my first time DMing and I want to make it as interesting as I can for the players, so does anybody have any ideas as to what could be incorporated?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Sometimes I dress up as Slender Man and sneak up on people at night.
This is just my personal thought but maybe try to put a plot twist somewheres and catch everyone off guard. Seems common but it will really excite and get reaction out of players and it fun experience every time I do it to my players.
My experience as a Dungeon Master taught me this: ALWAYS send your characters to a major city whenever they hit a new tier. Since most of your characters have just gotten into Epic Tier, I suggest you do that too. City centers usually are the places where all the royal meetings will take place, so you can always have some third party tyccoon request your players to attend the meeting and do stuff (negotiate, assassinate, you name it). Other than that, you can offer them small sidequests that don't have to involve combat encounters (such as a skill challenge about chasing a burglar in the cityscape, requiring Streetwise, Endurance, and Acrobatics as main skills) or even lay your back on the chair and get them in the middle of a bar fight.
Reasons to relocate the party into a major city could be from resupplying to enjoying some luxuries with the treasure they've looted from the orc encampment they plundered last week, or even something more plot-oriented like a message from a member of the royal court who requires the assistance of private adventuring companies to reclaim some old relic for the king (or even assassinate him, that depends totally on your roleplaying candy preferences).
