It was concluded fairly early and for ease of plot to decide that given the different biologies of either planets that there wouldn't be much in the way of new infectious diseases for any ecosystem. Basic stuff like Gangrene or an imbalance of the natural bacteria in our gut would be possible. But we're not going to fret over a Columbian Exchange tier event.
Is there a general outline of the species in the jungles? Like 6-armed blue monkeys?
Damn, I need to condense my questions into one big post.
I think the pods would be best served as larger shuttles that are supposed to be guided to a safe landing area by ground control, perhaps due to being so large that the parachutes do little more then slow them down for the approach. It allows us to have a much more dramatic entry where suddenly the pilots are charged with bringing this quickly falling shuttle to a safe landing somewhere in the middle of nowhere, and we can lose the other shuttles either permanently through 'splosion or temporarily through them landing far away. Like I had suggested in chat, all the starting player characters could be on one vessel. The intense landing should be a single introductory post made by a character who would presumably be somewhere in the cockpit of the shuttle. The rest of us start posting once we have landed.
I like the idea of everyone being on one pod. But you're advocating something like a 1-way glider rather than a giant Apollo pod? Fine by me, but we can still have a 'splosiony landing with a capsule as well. I don't really mind either way. As long as it's cool.
Also, Hugs and I decided we shouldn't let this sit around and stagnate. Let's make a checklist of things we need before we can start an IC. Feel free to edit/add things.

Planet Map - Need
Sentient Alien Idea - Need
OP - Need
Possible ideas for an alien.
-invertebrate that is capable of shape-shifting in a vague way, which means it cannot necessarily impersonate a human, but it can grow an arm, tentacle, leg, etc, wherever it needs it.
-Intelligent species that evolved from the flora rather then the fauna, meaning it has some of those floating properties I mentioned earlier. Speaks via "scent" transmitted by pollen rather then sound.
-If weird is too distracting, lizard people work too. Just want to make sure they aren't too simple. Thick hided snake people? Lizard dudes who use their tails rather then their limbs to manipulate objects?
To further the alien nature, we could also make it where there are multiple intelligent species on the planet.
Regarding the map...
-I still stick by the equator being ringed by a massive salt desert. Nothing grows, nothing lives, and it separates the planet into two distinct eco systems.
-Hows about one of those proper extraterrestrial volcanoes that are unreasonably humongous? Sort of like the Olympus Mons. Could have religious significance to the locals of course, it would look awesome as hell from ground level.
Per the aliens I was thinking more on the same vein as something like a arachnid or something; more like a scorpion.
Though, not in the formal sense with the whole eight arms of legs. Maybe some six or so smaller limbs it can tuck around its torso on the pretense they can use them to cling tighter to a rough surface.
I suggested a moon that appears to have been recently impacted by something large, leaving it all broken up, with chunks of rocks still floating around it. Googer said that a secondary effect of such a moon would be that it might leave a "weird, diffuse ring around the planet". I think it's a pretty awesome mental image, looking up at the sky and seeing a moon that isn't in one piece, but broken up from an impact. If we wanted to make it even more alien, we could have a second moon that's intact.
Googer and I also agreed the planet should be riddled with craters. Not barren craters like on our RL moon, but craters that have since filled with water. So the planet has various unusually round/circular mega-lakes/oceans.

Those craters would be iced over, so the moons would have this alien bluish hue.
- The first moon is, like you suggested, a half-destroyed moon. It's got rings around it, which will over time be transferred over to the planet. Eventually the moon will remold itself, collapsing into a smaller oblate spheroid. It's in a slightly eccentric orbit.
- The second moon is a smaller snowy-icy body in a higher orbit. From the surface of the planet, it can only be seen as a bluish-white dot brighter than the stars. It's in an inclined orbit.
Let's not get transfixed on the moons since we're not supposed to go there.
But we'll be seeing it. It'd be rather awkward if someone describes the moon as being perfectly round and large, while another person describes it in an entirely different manner.
Hmm.... I'm thinking about joining, but the only problem is that I am new to RPing and I do it more casually. Surrounded by guys that know what they are doing. Should I join?

I think it's a given any moons would be large and round. But let's not dwell too much on their composition and the nature of their valleys and craters. As I said, it's not a place we'll be visiting.
Whether or not one would be smashed to bits and a nearby field for meteoroids that could be included with greater frequency when we start posting in IC is fine. But let's try to actually figure out what's on the ground.

Figuring out what we're dealing with in terms of the indigenous sentience should be our primary hurdle since this addresses one of our main forces acting against - or in a few rare/select cases for - us.
Beyond that, we can always draft a map (which I can get a start on), and when all is decided for the plot basics we can draft an OP. If we want to keep this timely and relevant I want to say we should have it up and out tomorrow, or Monday. Once we get things sorted out and if we need to, then we can comb over the finer details.

This is an RP set up by the infamous Precipricks. We know what we're doing.
And it doesn't matter to me if you join and try to give it a shot. I'd be happy if you do. And any of us - and presumably everyone else - will be there to help guide you along if need be.
We even got a Roleplayer's Guide stickied for reference or general questions. Though, the content there-in can be seen as general writer's tips. But if you want to plan ahead you can cheery pick some guides out or read through it on off time.

I know you know what you are doing. I kind of stated that wrong. What I am saying is that if I join, I will be a dwarf among giants. But I'll try.
Lets just take the system in Opels last post and accept it. It is visual enough.
Also, imma write this down so we have it. Basically, my understanding of how Earth and its local colonies are set up (or at least were when we left them)
The world is unified economically and the soveirn governments we know and love are significantly less powerful. The UN acts much like the EU, with laws in place and free-trade largely established. There are still problem areas of the world where terrorism and insurgency are common. Still, the world population has boomed.
Terraforming technology, as was mentioned before, takes too long. Colonists are sent to the moon, but moon colonies prove expensive as they are completely reliant on supplies from earth, making the growth of lunar colonies slow. Luckily, a planet capable of supporting human life is found in a nearby star system and the ability to travel near the speed of light exists. Colonists are sent in numbers, and of course a second wave is sent. After a while, terraformation on Mars improves and Mars becomes habitable. At the time that our characters leave Earth, Mars has reached the point that it can sustain human life naturally and their is an immigration boom. The moon is largely a series of penal colonies and slums for people who had no other choice. There are space stations orbiting several other planets in order to aid in resource extraction, and asteroid mining is a thing. Most work is automated, so people on Earth aren't required to work, but their guaranteed incomes are low and many people seek the few remaining jobs the require humans as a way to give their life meaning, and to line their pocket books. Still, the number of people who are permanently unemployed and bordering poverty have caused a large spike in both crime and listlessness. This is a driving factor in people wanting to be space colonists, as it allows them to do something besides rot in their government provided houses.
The traditional cultures of Earth still exist, but they are somewhat faded and intermingled. The Moon and Mars have much more rough, frontier cultures, breeding tough people.
@Sketch: A lot of people are quick to say we, the Precipricks, are rude people who think we're better than everyone else, but that's not the case. I personally love when people who aren't great writers yet step up and challenge themselves in our roleplays. It shows they're willing to improve and I'd be glad to help, as would everyone else in the Precipice crew. Stick with us for a few months and you'll be a hell of a writer in no time. We all started with posts that were no longer than a few lines. Like, really. We can all go back far enough to find posts by us that were laughably small and silly. Now we make huge, detailed posts because we've stuck around and learned from each other.
Pepperm1nts: Googer said he wanted Earth to be a poophole, in short. All the problems we mentioned yesterday, but really F-word bad. We also talked about the the Earf government being increasingly oppressive as wars happen, people riot, ect. Basically, the Earf government decides F-word it and starts upping the pressure. Drones roam the streets scanning people, checkpoints everywhere, poop like that. Like Half-Life almost. This can be yet another reason why people want to leave

9:59 PM - Dinh AaronMk: Sounds good
10:00 PM - Vilageidiotx: Post tat in the thread
10:01 PM - Pepperm1nts: We also went briefly over why people would want to leave and we agreed that most people wouldn't want to because leaving would mean never seeing their families again. Which means that a lot of the colonists would be people who were practically forced to go. Prisoners, for example. In order to free prison space and alleviate resource problems with maintaining crowded prisons, prisoners are offered shorter sentences for what is essentially a period of servitude. When that period is over, they'll be freed and can live their lives on the colony (or at least that would have been the plan).
10:01 PM - Pepperm1nts: Similar poop could have been at play to convince and/or force people to hop on a colony ship
That's not say everyone on the ship is a prisoner. Prisoners would be a rather small demographic on board the ship. What I'm getting it at is that most people on board are probably there because they had little choice. There will definitively be those who simply volunteered for science and humanity and whatnot. There are selfless people out there who want to be part of something greater even if it means losing their families, but a lot, maybe the majority of people on board are probably there because they didn't have much of a choice.
EDIT: To elaborate on Earth conditions: Overpopulation. Like, extreme. And as you'd expect, rapidly depleting resources. Which, in turn, spark conflict and squabbling. Which then forces government forces to put the pressure on the civilization, checkpoints, cracking down on certain groups, people being monitored ect. An oppressive government. This of course causes resistance, riots, protests, things like that. There are few jobs due to increasingly automated (robots took er jerbs) programs that do everything and don't ask for weekends. Pollution, climate change, all that stuff. Basically, things are really bad.
