It’s a peculiar thing to wake up in a strange place and then be treated like you’ve always been there. Such has always been the way of this place. No one can remember exactly how they ended up here, and few would admit they actually wanted to come. The story is always the same – one day they were going about their usual life (whatever that might have been) and then they were just here. No one remembers the journey nor what events that lead up to their apparent capture.
Yet despite the fact that most are taken against their will, this place that they are brought to actually isn’t so bad. Everyone gets their own bedroom and restroom. There’s a wide variety of food served in the cafeteria. The rec room has more activities than a person could do in a single day. There’s even internet access. Everything about the facility seems to be designed with the inmates’ comfort in mind, and few can claim they’ve been treated badly.
Perhaps the most peculiar thing, though, is the gym. Despite its name, the gym is more than just a big room. It is, in fact, several rooms, and many are set up like elaborate training exercises that you could only expect from some sort of military operation. Only the boring ‘empty room’ gym is available during normal hours, but on occasion a few people are called to the inner training rooms. Thankfully the entire gym sector of the facility is heavily fortified, and nearly invincible. After all; how else would it contain the powers?
Ah yes, the powers. Naturally there is a point in everyone having been brought here. Naturally there is a reason for so many armed guards and security cameras. Naturally a reason for all of those questionable medical examinations...
Everyone brought to the facility was – by some unknown means – given a different combination of supernatural abilities. Some people only have one, but others have as many as six. These abilities can be anything from enhanced strength to throwing fire balls, and each no less impressive than the last. The purpose of them is unknown. No one had these powers before coming to the facility, and no one knows exactly why they have them now. Presumably they are being tested, and all the ‘guests’ being used as lab rats.
Despite how shady and surely unethical all of this is, many people actually claim to prefer life in the lab. Many were pulled out of bad situations; homelessness, sickness, and depression to name a few. More still were orphans – unwanted children with nowhere to go. Now, with all of the luxuries provided by the lab, many do not want to leave. There are, however, those who do.
Well, I guess that intro will suffice. Er, I mean – Welcome to Storm Tech Laboratories! Here you’ve got nearly everything you could ever want! Eat awesome food! Play a bunch of games! Waste your life on the internet! Be a super cool awesome fantastic super powered magic person! Just think of all the CHARISMA you’ll have!!!!!
Naturally you may be wanting to escape, but let Storm Tech assure you that escape is in no way a good idea! The world has no place for freak abominations like you! You can stay here, though, and spend the rest of your life in our five star facility! Besides, do you have any idea how much those fancy powers cost? We basically own you now! Woohoo!!!!!
The facility its self is arranged in a convenient square pattern. There are four major wings, or ‘sectors’ that make up the important areas, and stand as the corners of the square. These four are made up of the dorm sector, the gym sector, the rec sector, and the cafeteria. Each of these major sectors is about half a square mile in size. In the middle of those main four is another sector that subjects are not allowed to enter. Presumably this is an office and lab sector, and probably houses employee facilities. The entire facility is underground somewhere, and it’s common knowledge that there are more floors than this one that the subjects inhabit.
I'll probably post a map later.
Right, so powers in this thread don’t work the way you’re used to. The system for powers will work much the same as in an upcoming thread of mine, albeit a bit simplified.
Instead of just saying “I have fire powers!” you will have to choose a specific area of “fire powers” to have. Each power is provided by a crystal (but none of the character know that) which only gives you a single ability. Each crystal has a point value based on its power level, and you are allowed to have a total of six points in your overall configuration.
That means if a character has a level six fire ball crystal, they will be able to throw an incredibly powerful fireball, but cannot have any other abilities. The character could alternatively have six level one crystals, and thus have several weaker abilities to choose from.
Oh, and for this thread each crystal will have a percentage value. That percentage is how much of your energy that ability will take to perform. So if your fire ball costs 10% of your energy to throw, you can only perform that attack ten times. Keep in mind that all of the abilities draw from the same energy pool, so if you exhaust yourself from throwing ten of the aforementioned fire balls, you won’t be able to use any other attacks either.
Your energy can be recharged by getting a full eight hours of sleep, and any less will only charge it by a fraction of that. If you overstep the 100% cap your character will immediately fall unconscious for a long enough time to recover however much excess energy they used. So if you somehow spent 200% energy, you would be unconscious for a solid eight hours, only to wake up needing another eight hours in order to get back to full energy.
I’ll keep track of the percentages for you, don’t worry.
Also, rather than extending the list any further with details, I’ll just give you an estimate of how powerful your chosen abilities are. You can also ask ahead of time. Bear with me, I’m trying to keep this thread from taking as long to make as the previously mention upcoming one.
The system is somewhat of a work in progress, so feel free to ask any questions you might have and I’ll answer them as best I can. You can also suggest crystals if you want something that isn’t available – just remember that I may not create it if I don’t like it.

My characters are:
Name: Devin Young
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Powers: Fire Ball 3; Fire Spout 1; Agility 1; Reflexes 1
Appearance: Devin isn’t one to overdo it. He wears blue jeans, a white tee, and a black jacket vest that’s always open. Oh, and black shoes. His previously tanned skin is a bit lighter now without natural sunlight on it, but he has a slightly darker complexion than general Caucasian. Devin’s more on the fit side, and stands at 5’10. He has a forgettable face, but one with bold and clearly masculine features. His eyes are brown in color, and very threatening a lot of the time. The thing people tend to notice most about him is his hair, which is brown, wavy, and long enough to fall an inch or two past his shoulders.
History: Devin’s questionable past would seem to have a lot going on despite being so limited. There were a lot of bar fights and small crimes, which must have gone somewhat well if his visible lack of scars says anything. He was always somewhat of a rebel, and did*’t see eye to eye with schooling. Otherwise there isn’t much to say. You’ll probably hear about some of the finer details.
And
Name: Nora Masterson
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Powers: Charge Field 3; Shine 1; Heal Other 2
Appearance: While most won’t notice, Nora’s actually kind of cute if you ever manage to see her clearly. She has small, girlish features, but large-seeming blue eyes that can turn a heart better than an autopsy. Her ghastly white skin would have you believe she’s afraid of sunlight, but the shadows that tend to hide it take away from the effect some. She has surprisingly long hair that is perfectly straight, and a dark brown color that’s mistakable for black.
At a height of 5’8, she’s not exactly short. Nora fills it out well enough, but is noticeably thinner than she probably should be. It’s often hard to tell the exact shape of her body, though, as she’s constantly covered from head to toe. While she obviously changes her clothes on a regular basis, she usually wears pants and long sleeves. It’s also rare to see her without some sort of hoodie on – with the hood drawn and casting shadows over her face.
History: Nora doesn’t talk about her past very much. She gets defensive when asked, and it’s probably better you don’t press the issue.
((for power points, how do the points work i.e. if you had fade 3, mislead 2, and icicle 1, would fade be mor effective or less tireingor something? this knowledge will help me chose powers. also, you have agility and reflexes up there in you apps, how does geting those work?))
Oh, must have forgot to add those to the list. They're up there now.
Regarding Fade, there's this quote:
"I suppose those three could have been better word as something like "Become less visible" Each level adds to how 'invisible' the user is. Level 1 would make you 40%-50% opaque (if that's a good way to explain it) and it would decrease with each tier until total invisibility at tier 6. So you can hide pretty well if you put yourself in the right setting (shadows especially would enhance the effect) but without maximum fade you would still be detectable in brightly lit areas."
So going by that, Fade 3 would make you 70% transparent.
Appearance: Look in and see through, see into a void. Without death. Without life. Nothingness that fill even ravens with apprehension and dread. See into the husk of man. Stare, suffer that which is without true life, that which mocks life. Feel it slowly immolate yet pierce through the soul, god its self cringes at the folly of its "blessed" beings. Wander among limbo, no longer within a position of reason, no more will your sanity stand untouched as entropy and torment consumes the feeble, arrogant, and strong alike.
A thin deception to the vacancy that resides beneath. Gleaming with an untainted purity, merely a fallacy. The soldier of the whole within sequence of decay and regeneration, that which conjoins mortality into a whole. Never in perfection nor in utter ruin. Though corrupted and subdued within, frozen of its sense in humanity to the vacuum of damnation. It now only confides the emptiness and manifests as normality, a guise of purity to deceive the young and ignorant.
Weary of rift between the guise and actuality, rendering flux passing from misery to inevitable ecstasy, the finale into tranquility. Powerless as a mere partner to madness, shriveling, sullen to its impeding ruination. Boundaries fading into black, existence now bleak still ever defiant to the end. Silent shrieks of panic and anguish are heard to no avail as the desolation closes in to scour the bits of purity, life, and strength that remain.
A trivial matter only to entertain the people around him. He, the whole, favors gloves as he does not wish to consciously know of his sorrow, the depression that consumes him into a world of terror. Apathy is exhibited to the other pieces of attire, he dresses in what they supply him with.
History: Lived a seemingly normal life, though plagued by emptiness, duress, and sorrow. Lead astray and slowly condemned to a miserable death, seeking for his end was the only intent as the fear of his demise became overtaken by that of the agony that took residence within as a parasite festering and feeding on his humanity.
Other: These days drift on inside of a fog its thick and suffocating, his sinking life outside his hell inside intoxicating. Hes run aground like his life
((*snap* too ambiguous i guess)) Appearance: black eyes, light skin tone, body composition, skinny, lacking of fat and muscle, becoming even more thin each day. Clothing is tries to wear gloves, has no preference of other clothing and wears what ever they may give him or in the case they brought his clothing, solid colored t shirts and pants.
(( That'll do. Accepted. Seems like we've got a decent enough number of people now, so I suppose I can get things started. Although I'll only be around for a few hours. ))
The rec room was buzzing with activity as the lab-dwellers contentedly entertained themselves in various ways. The massive network of rooms saw to it that no culture nor style was left unaccounted for, and it almost flowed like a night on the town when one walked between rooms.
Nora, however, was uninterested in such things, and sat glumly in the initial common room on the outskirts of the chaotic fun throughout the sector. She held a small journal in her hands, writing carefully for a few seconds at a time before ritualistically peering out from under her hood to make sure no one was watching. Every sentence seemed to hold some secret to her, and with each full stop she would cautiously make sure only the journal had been told it.
The curious young woman was one of the more recent additions to the Storm Tech family, having been in the lab for little more than a month. By now the shock and outward resistance had subsided in her, but everything she did suggested that she was nervous and unused to the place. In her time at the facility she had spoken to no more than ten people, and only in very short non-conversations. The people that already recognized her knew to leave her alone, and she certainly didn’t have anyone inside that she considered her friend.
Typically she preferred to stay in her bedroom, but the staff encouraged social behavior, limiting access to the dorms during the daytime. Nora did*’t eat much, and she certainly wasn’t the gym type, so she spent most of her time on the comfortable rec room couches, writing in her small notebook as she was doing now.
She was partway through her latest message when something unusual caught her attention – not that it was hard to catch. “I’ll be fine, I’ll be fine.” a sickly man struggled to reassure the two silent guards that were escorting him out of the area.
“It was just the drink... Just the drink!” he continued, pleading that they let him be. His face was terribly pale, and the expressions he was clearly fighting back betrayed a very nauseous and churning stomach. Worst of all were his reddened eyes, which fought to stay open as he clumsily lurched forward, only keeping his balance by way of the guards’ tight grip on either of his arms.
It wasn’t unusual for a person to have one too many, but something about this situation was peculiar in a way that others never were. Nora watched intently through her bangs as the armed guards steered the sickly patient toward the exit. The stumbling man’s eyes accidentally fluttered in Nora’s direction, and he held onto her stare desperately. “I look fine, don’t I?” the man begged “Tell them. T-tell them I’m alright!”
The young woman shuddered, quickly breaking eye contact and burying herself in her journal again. A final “Tell them!” echoed behind them as the trio made their exit. As soon as the man was out of the room Nora began scribbling furiously into the book, forgetting to look up every now and then. She looked terribly unsettled, and if she wrote any faster her pen would surely tear the pages.
Grieg bewildered and in a state of panic was escorted to his room by two guards one on each side of Grieg, Grieg repeatedly murmured
"where am I?"
This was inaudible to one guard and the other was ignoring him as they already had told him in the initial procedures. As they arrived to Grieg's room the guard to his left had said loudly
"Here is the room you will be staying in, once you are settled in be sure to come out as there will be activities in the rec room. Your clothing is located in the closet."
The guards began to turned away and leave, the other guard had politely said
"Also, Welcome home"
Thus Grieg was alone, he began to notice how pristine the room was, white walls absurdly pure lacking webs, cracks, or dirt. No windows but a closet in the back of the room with a relieving black duffle bag sitting in the middle of the closet. A white door with a silver handle to the right of the room and a bed to the left covered with white sheets, a thin cheap hospital blanket, and a single white covered pillow at the top of the bed. Looking down he saw that his shoes were spotless along with the white tiled floor. Grieg though still vexed found it suffocating, as though he was ensnared by the room. He began to think, is this a sanitarium? If they want to help me they would let me die, not put me in a nut house! I can't stay here, I don't want to die here suffering alone. He begins to panic and runs out of the door he came through, searching frantically for a way to escape running down the hall, Leading towards the rec room.
Powers: Regeneration: 3; Fire Bind: 1; Perception: 1; Reflexes: 1.
Appearance:
Nate's face format is slightly square and does matches his short, dark blond peaked hairstyle of which could resemble to a porcupine with combed fur; his face has a smooth skin, tiny eyebrows and a charismatic look whose nose or mouth can't even be tagged over the description of the regular size and appearance. It is notable that his eyes and eyebrows are small and close to the nose, therefore, he has an above-average sized forehead and his cheeks are flaccid to the point of convenience.
A minimal athletic body build, Nate wears a bisque thin jacket, mostly for the sake of good-looking; it has a regular design that works with a zipper. Below it is a simple dim gray t-shirt that matches a black social pants and plain gray sneakers, this one with the shoe sole in a weakened form of yellow that seems a grimy white.
History:
Nate hadn't an interesting or outstanding life until he moved to the ghetto of one violent city of the United States, in the age of 10. In order to socialize with the other boys, he often was performing said cultural things from the region, such as tagging up the streets and performing le parkour. Always keeping his value, he was known as the "cop boy": what would signify that if anything happened, he would be blamed for it, as he had less malice and gangster slang than any other.
For this, Nate repeatedly remembered himself only to do things as long he wouldn't be prejudiced. When he turned 16, he began playing soccer on a precarious football club just to do something rather than playing on the wannabe gang that he used to go with. This has given Nate some extra ability with sports and his average le parkour skills, which he never stopped training. Eventually, his family moved out to a better location on West Coast. This; however, was not enough to make him abandon his physical activities he used to do.
((A question before I write an application. If I choose to bind sand to myself, can I cover myself in it and move around in it, acting like a moving sand humanoid? Or did I misinterpret it entirely wrong?))
As Grieg runs down the hall seeing nothing but endless white doors that would have blended with the walls if there wasn't a handle on each of them. In Grieg's panicked it was almost endless, until one of the doors opened and a man walked out of it. Grieg ran into the him, as the man shouts at Grieg but comes as out unclear to Grieg still in a state of terror. They both fall to the floor, the man grabbed Grieg as they were getting up yelling
"Whats the rush?"
Grieg responses much more loudly almost to the point of screaming
"I don't know about you but I am not insane, I don't need to be here there was a mistake. Where is the exit?"
Grieg was so frightened by the thought that he would be trapped in a mental institution that he was trembling with fear.
And yeah, Bat, you've got the right idea. Although it's admittedly not that useful.
Oh, and be careful about god-modding, Pigg. Anything but the slightest contact with another character should be written as an implication rather than a solid fact. ))
The two were in the same hallway that the two guards were now passing through. The man they were escorting had more or less resigned to whatever fate he was being led toward, but still protested quietly as they walked. "No running in the hallway." one of the guards reminded Grieg as they passed the two inmates. Crashes like that were exactly the reason that rule was in place. A more in-depth warning would have been issued in any other case, but for now the guard who had spoken was busy enough escorting the sickly man to... somewhere.

((Sounds good, I'll try to keep it under control if I use it then xD Will prepare an application.))
Grieg, stops trembling wanting to believe what the man had said but still unsure if he could trust him. Although it was unsettling he found himself hungry. Grieg began to regain a bit of rationality pondered, if im not in a asylum then why am I? how did I get here I don't remember, and that guard "welcome home"? I dont remember singing a consent form or anything, surely this can't be legal.
"Well i am a bit hungry, where do we eat?" Grieg replied as he began to follow the man apprehensively
"oh and my name is Grieg"
Grieg slightly confused softly says
"Um well not really"
This had been the first time Grieg had talked to someone other than a teacher or his parents in years. This was only because of the initial terror he felt when arriving and while under the false belief of being locked away in an asylum. Grieg was depress to the point of being suicidal.Grieg began to think deeply after responding to Jake, unintentionally ignoring what Jake might have said after he had responded. How would I ever actually be able to get it over with if I was always being watched? Maybe I could talk to someone and they will let me leave or at least explain why they want me here.
Grieg asks Jake slightly louder than a whisper
"After we eat, do you know if there is someone I can talk to about leaving or something."

And
(( My own bios should give you a good idea of a minimal description. As long as there's a basic idea it's fine.
For now it is strictly six points. That could change later, but not in a way you would expect. ))
(( Oh, and you're accepted, George. ))
(( No. The physical abilities are crystal powers. It has to add up to six or less unconditionally. ))
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Powers: fade 2, glacial touch 1, ice form 1, icicle 2
Hes run aground like his life
Appearance: black eyes, light skin tone, body composition, skinny, lacking of fat and muscle, becoming even more thin each day. Clothing is tries to wear gloves, has no preference of other clothing and wears what ever they may give him or in the case they brought his clothing, solid colored t shirts and pants.
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Other: Nothing.
"Well i am a bit hungry, where do we eat?" Grieg replied as he began to follow the man apprehensively
"oh and my name is Grieg"
