Oh how Hiris loved these trees, some would think he was killing the forest but oh no, he was evolving it. He had actually supplemented it with his own magic only at first to make his heart tree and create roots thick enough for tunnels to be built through. The other roots reached far down into the earth and gathered Magic energy for him, taking only a portion for their own growth. And of course they were readily available for his us and manipulation.
GAH were those imps done yet! watching over the final touches on a Magical creature creating portal with only clumsy imps to make it was.... nerve racking. but they finished well enough, and impatiently the keeper descended down on them. "good good, I want a room in the base of every tree you reach when digging through the roots, go find and tell your brothers."
Then summoning a small amount of magic Hiris brought forth 7 imps from the portal, much easier then performing the act without one. After those imps he brought 9 Iris ogres through the portal and now in a very nefarious keeper way he had easy to count numbers for all of his creatures.
Well, my army is still very small.... I will make them stronger then obtain a more expendable creature. Though mind control would make a very useful construct. Armor and weaponry is needed so they won't have to rely on their natural magic.]Hmmmm.... now that I think about it I can grow trees of stone so other things shouldn't be beyond my abilities. Hiris expanded his mind to the heart and took in all the trees of his dungeon, selecting one the imps had not tunnelled into and began focusing on changing the composition, the change happened slowly, and soon specks of iron were showing in the bark as the tree started growing iron ore in the middle. Then a second tree turned to tin, then another tree turned to copper, all in a triangular group. these would be very useful indeed for arming his creatures.
The trees would have to be harvested in a controlled manner so they could replenish, if he ever needed more Hirin could make another grove, how had humans not used magic in such a way before, meh, another reason they keep falling so easily to us keepers.
"IMPS! begin making a forge in the second tree, if you mine along a root you will find many types of ore, you are to stop once you reach all three tree bases and begin practising making armour to protect the ogres. Also you must be very hungry, the trees will provide for all of our needs as of now, the third tree is the dining room and you will find it grows fruit on the inside.any furnishings you require you should build"
the door that used to lead to the heart form the outside is sealed shut and the fourth tree is now the entrance. while in the heart Hiris communicates to his ogres. "begin scouting outside through the forest, be as stealthy as possible, confuse anything into thinking you aren't there to avoid fighting unless they come too close to the dungeon"
Turning to his heart, in the bare room of the living stone tree, Hiris began to plan some more, the settlements nearby had not felt his presence, and as much as this was desirable for stealth purposes, he would need a suitable way to knock down their doors. This new creature could be what he needed.

Civilization post area Current city is that dot nearest to South-West Swamp on map.
Before Garold arrived the imps had just been a strange supernatural theft, but he walked up to the city with the wind whipping across the road behind him. The sentry straightened up and got ready to greet the traveller. Finally slowing his steady trot Garold stopped just before the semi closed gateway, it really couldn't have stopped him, they kept it about halfway so that only large groups had to have it moved for entry.
"Garold!" Mitch exclaimed, the hunting party had come back telling of a seemingly obsessed Garold who was past reasoning coming back without an imp head in a sack. "No blood stained corpse? I thought you were supposed to find them no matter what?" Everyone in the party had thought it was foolhardy of him to keep going without them, the walk all the way back to the city was a long one without company.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, stop pestering I've got something important to say to the mayor. So just do whatever it is you do other then sit in their all day for small change."
"Oh sure, all defensive now aren't we, I could stop you from getting through just for that" He waved a hand for effect. "but whatever you must actually have something important to say so go on in, and cure the bad mood I gave you before talking to him."
((OKAY guys im so sorry I'm gonna do a time warp for all people reading this in the future, I've slowly edited in the civilization side piece by piece after the keeper and sola has just posted.))
Getting to actually talk to the mayor with the urgency would mean more long talks with people he barely knew, but there just wasn't time, Garold would have to tell someone less official. He knew Mitch, but he was just a guy who worked a low pay high hour job for the city. as he walked towards the city center, giving up to the amounts of political intrigue he would cause, an old man ran out of a house, much fancier then the ones surrounding it. He was plainly alarmed by something and struggling to put on a robe while moving, the robe signified him as a government magician, charged with keeping the highest magical knowledge of the city.
"High Magician stop!! I have to talk to you!" Of course he didn't stop but kept running Garold was just some guy, but he was a young healthy guy who soon caught up the the man. "Stop stop what I have to say is very important!" then was interrupted abruptly by the mage
"A keeper!!" he blurted." nothing is bigger then a keeper my son, nothing!! I must tell the everyone in the Town center!"
"I have to tell them something too!! the Imps have summoned something in the forest!! Surely an evil spirit, an undead mage! whatever a keeper is it can stay with its kept things for now!"
"What the forest?....But it was not from their... Oh dear. Warn everyone the 5th age has begun! it has begun!" What was this old man blathering about surely he had lost his marbles.
"K-Kleo? What is this chamber?" Jane asked me, looking at the spherical diamond covered room.
"Trust me." I told her, and she nodded as I pushed her in and slid a piece of diamond to cover the entrance way. She looked up from the floor, her body slumped.
"What are you doing to meeeeeeee!" She yelled as I charged the diamond with magical energy. Slowly she was lifted off the ground, sky blue light emanating from her, crimson lightning striking her form.
"AHHHHHHHHHHH!" She yelled in pain as her eyes turned a perfect blue shade, lacking any traditional pupils or iris, and her hair turned a color much the same. She was twitching, nigh on uncontrollably now. A little bit of red blood slipped from one corner of her mouth, only to turn blue. So, my magic was taking a toll on her. Good. That means I've laid claim to her soul. Her skin remains tan, but you can barely see her anyway now, so bright is the light. I should be worried about the magical flux this action will create: a flare bright enough to pinpoint my location to most human mages and a keeper perhaps. No matter. Not yet, at least. As I created the chamber I had instructed the imps to make a series of mana harvesters that would sustain a weak force field, when I chose to activate it. Soon the entire hollowed inside of Hiris's heart chamber was covered in magical vines that glowed fluorescent green. Through his trance the plants had grown into a coil on the ground. Now it was ready after growing for awhile. The coiled vines began slithering into a form, tightening together to create pseudo muscles of plant fiber, and it started walking, shakily at first, taking form into a twisted shape, first a wolf, then a humanoid much like Hiris's form, this particular one settled on being a green panther, tightening together so that the vines stressed tight like yanking on a knot, snapping off from the main vines growing on the walls. As the vines making up the Panther began to die from being cut off from the plant, it started hardening to the signature growing stone of Hiris.
Instead of growing though, these creatures moved. And the panther opened its mouth creating a dry crackle in place of a growl.
The vines were also growing on the outside of the stone trees, adding a bit of colour to this expanding grey forest. Then Hiris walked with hi new panther creation to the small forge the imps had set up, it had not reached its full splendour yet, it was just a few anvils and 2 fires for heating the metal in.
"Bah imps is this the best you can do? get some metal melting into giant vats or something!"
"We need the right facilities, intense heat can only come from having enough stuff to burn!"
"I have to do everything do I? Making these trees isn't easy"
There was a great creaking as the roots of he tree extended far into the ground, piercing the very depths of the earth until it reached the molten areas of the hells, and a river of lava diverted, magnetically attracted to the energy in the dungeon, a great stream of it emitted from the side of the room, and flowed in a trough to fill one half of the room before reaching another root hat channeled it back into hell so as it would not harden and kept flowing.
The imps were alarmed at first and backed off into the passageways but soon saw it was contained.
"there, you will build a new forge around this natural source of heat. Build it cleverly, melt metal near the bottom and heat it for more precise shaping above. surely now there is no excuse for slow production as long as you have he right metal casting molds, now we have 10 ogres to arm! get to work!"
Summoning five more imps in his portal room, Hiris instructs them to convert the outer trees so that their sole purpose is for gathering magic, and bring some of the vines to grow on the outside.
Then he concentrated, this forest was a very good dungeon, and it had expanded greatly, the speciality trees didn't give him very much magic but once the ring of magic collecting trees were complete he would have enough to begin greater feats of magic, and he could begin making his form more combat ready without sacrificing his more magical abilities.
But for now he would need a construct to lead his army of vine creatures into battle, Though the ogres were weak, they were much smarter and were more suited for the job, so Hiris began crafting an 11th Ogre to be a construct.

"Ah, Jane, you bear good news, I hope?" I ask, swirling in place like a twister.
"I seem to have found another Keeper, Kleo. He lives nearby, in the forest upon the mainland. As far as I can see, he specializes in plant like creatures, although I wasn't able to see his newest creation. His imps were mining ores from trees, Iron and tin among others." Jane tells me. Malsirus finds the guards ledger, which contains specifics on prisoners. With this Malsirus ordered his rouge to release other skilled thieves to become rouges.
"A creature has died in your prison, and has risen as a skeleton"
Malsirus was pleased to see all of the starving prisoners die and become his loyal servants. Now was the time to see the world above. The imps opened the door and were immediately blinded by the bright sun that thier eyes were not used to seeing. but they kept their heads down and started to claim the ground beneath them. they started to build to make the torchlit caves they were used to. when they got a far enough distance outward, they felt something dark in the ground below, old blood, bones. a place that radiated hatred. Malsirus was amused to hear of this place of hatred and wanted to see it personally. but how, he was simply a heart and magic, how could he move other than keeping his pulse?. but from the will of mind. the center of the heart opened and out came Malsirus, he was a beast of many eyes and a large central eye, he could see the world the way the others did. he did not have legs but he could still move around, he was easily amused by this but he returned to his train of thought and continued upward toward the surface and out of the prison. he could feel it. the evil emintating from the land. he ordered that the whole field be excavated.

The new Ogre "Gliff" was done, obviously much more intelligent then the others as taking the time to name himself. The Eyes on Gliff were much more numerous, and Hiris made it so that any damage to an eye was less painful, because he had enough to spare.
Once Hiris was able to take in his dungeon again he noticed the trace of another keeper, soon he located it, a message. How had they delivered it without alerting the Ogres? Bah the dumb things probably wouldn't notice it if a keeper marched to the front gates, this construct would surely prevent any more breaches by keeping the ogres on task more. however considering the oblivious ogres hadn't been carried off or killed, it was a good sign.
"Gliff, first task, retrieve the message and tell me what it sais"
He departed down the stairway into the lower dungeon and soon was outside organizing the guard ogres and telling one to pick up the message. Gliff communicated to Hiris through the heart.
"An invitation of sorts, to an alliance. It reads as such."
I am Kleo, a Dungeon Keeper much like yourself. I live nearby, however I do not wish to destroy, conquer, invade, take over, attempt a coup d'tat, or anything similar. I wish for an alliance between us two. Starting off as simple resource trade, and turning eventually into a full blown sharing of what will obviously be an amazing empire. So, mystery keeper, what say you?
Well, what a predicament, there were no means to sending a message back to the other keeper, and they knew our position far too well. Hiris decided to send out the vine creatures, they would scout everything out in the forest, and venture out farther into the continent to find information past the forest border.
Production had been sufficient, with the trees supplying a good enough amount of ore all the ogres had been outfitted with... sufficient armour, no craftsmen would claim it as their own but the effects of being good looking was a negligible addition to effectiveness. With an assortment of battle axes, swords, and maces. Helmets were the trickiest part, the end design settled on innovating a new type of visor that would not block any of the ogre' vision while up.
Then inspiration struck and Hiris called for one of the vine creatures to come into the foundry before leaving. Quickly the imps created a mould for his idea and laid it ready at a pot of melted metal. The vine creature was the panther, in fact all of them were, Hiris had decided that form was optimal for their job, though maybe something more bulky for attacking organized forces. Imps poured the mixture into a mild and the panther stepped in it, very quickly the stone began glowing red hot and the imps poured water onto it, hardening the metal into brad new razor claws attached to the panther. It crackled in excitement ready to test out the weapon, slashing into the stone walls, leaving nice grooves. The process was repeated for all 3 other paws and the imps made an area where the could carry out the procedure without spilling water around the foundry.
hmmm... I haven't much else to do. It's almost like I've reached a cap in my production, the dungeon simply spans an area and nothing fills it, almost like I've reached my limit... My avatar needs to be changed.
Then Hiris walked down into an unused room of the dungeon, and began making a new form. The vines started smoking and burst into flames, the vines smoked and spit as they were consumed and an ashen cloud hit the ceiling, then crawled along it as a shadow and pulled itself out of the wall. now Hiris was best described as a shadow daemon, it almost pained him to resemble a lower creature but keepers were strange in that way where they were dependent ton a large dungeon for power.

Frostvar looked upon his new creation. It was a Human skeleton made of Icesteel, built to serve him. It was weak, but could do when it had weapons. Using his Heart's power, he commanded 10 imps to build 2 portals for Black Icesteel, and commanded the other 10 to build a forge. Using a lot of his power, Frostvar directly spawned 4 more Frostmen. He then commanded the 6 Frostmen to guard the dungeon. He was too tired after spawning the few weak creatures, so he went inside his Heart.
He knew he was weak, and would need a better Avatar which could generate and hold more power, soon. But, for now, he would focus on building more creatures. And so, he laid in his Heart, focusing on his next creation. The Snow Pegasus.
It would be a white horse with giant eagle wings, that were white, of course. It's primary attack would be kicking it's target with it's strong legs and hard hooves. This would be for taking down stronger opponents. It's secondary attack would a be frost magic. It could breathe frost breath, and rain snowballs upon targets. That method is extremely unaffective torwards smaller opponents due to horrible accuracy, and not effective at all against stronger opponents, due to them moste likely having strong defense. It's frost breath would have a small chance of freezing weaker opponents, and would hit them with sharp shards of ice and snow. They could fly, but could only carry two Frostmen without not falling out of the sky, or a team of 4 Imps.
He proceeded to create this new and useful creation.
Army:
Frostmen (5)
UPCOMING:: Snow Pegasus
Plans:
Build Forge
Make Icesteel Swords
Make Frostman (x2 per turn for mass production) and Frostman construct Icenaught
Equip army with Icesteel Swords
Forge 0/5 Turns (-1 Turn due to a chamber being avalible)
Malsirus loved this spot of evil, it was euphoric. he even requested that his heart be moved beneath it. the imps started right away at relocating the heart, a tough and laborous task.
There was a bit of a fearful moment when a prisoner convoy came down the road. The Rouges knew what to do, they draped themselves in the guard armor and stopped them halfway down the road, before they could see the operation taking place. They asked why they were stopped at that point. The rouge's answer was that it was a security measure, a riot broke out not too long ago, and so the security was tripled. They took off and gave the prisoners to the rouges. they were immediately examined and either hired or thrown in the slammer.
at the dig site they found old and broken weaponry, the largest being a ballista. Malsirus saw this and requested that they start the manufacturing of such devices to guard the borders of his dungeon. The Imps told him a forge was required and they were just starting the building process. Malsirus was pleased.
Malsirus headed back to his heart where his body was consumed by the heart's structure. he felt himself being lifted from the ground as Imps have dug out the passage leading to the center of the battlefield. on his agenda was to create a general of sorts. he decided this should be a skeleton, since they are frightening to the prisoners. he gathered the skeletons excavated from the digsite feeling that their expericence might just transfer, even after being dead for a century, and used magic to bind the bones together into one being.

It may be time to create a new creature, I think. Something more defense oriented. I grin as much as I can in this form.
"Jane, protect me." I tell her, and she nods as I lock myself in my Dungeon Heart, and start on a new creature tablet. It will take time to create, but it will be a welcome addition to my forces. A very welcome addition...
((Jane's POV))
I smile at the now locked door of the Dungeon Heart, and quickly begin flying away, towards the other keeper's dungeon. Suddenly, a tornado blindsides me, about a league from shore. I battle mercilessly against the gale, but already one wing is injured-*crack*-broken, and I spiral listlessly, crashing near a strange tree, creating a large slight smoking trench as I skim into the ground.

Malsirus took a small break from the development of his construct to look upon his realm, what was on his mind was how the imps mined the passageway so quickly. But then he realized, that the imps had infact dug into the tunnels of a long dead dungeon. He then returned to his work at his new skeletal commander. Just as he finished he felt himself being placed on the old heart chamber of the ancient keeper. his pulse immediately filled the old rooms with life, just as a living heart were placed in a fresh corpse, the power flowed through the long existing hallways, he felt the instability but was happy none the less. He released his new creation, Skullbrand was its name. 12' tall with 6 arms, and filled with the might of its former components. he immediately had the feeling of a commander and whipped the skeletons straight. Skullbrand equipped himself with a rather bulky suit of armor, though battered and rusted.
Meanwhile, Malsirus felt something odd, then he noticed one of his imps died. though it was immediately replaced, Malsirus was concerned. he looked around, for where the imp was assigned. and then he saw it wandering the halls, it wasnt a human or a skeleton, what was it? Malsirus dropped Skullbrand and ten skeletons with him behind the creature.

Gliff reported in almost immediately after Hiris had changed forms.
"master we've captured a winged person,Woman specifically. I have her restrained in some creeping vines for now. What should we do with her?"
"What? a winged person. the angels can't be here already! How magical is she?"
"very magical in fact"
Hiris located the room on the dungeon where she was being held and saw she was still unconscious
"This can be used greatly to our advantage, I will set up the necessary runes, there is a way to drain an amount of her magic. Not only will mine be augmented but it will stop any over active behaviour when she wakes."
The dungeon was so un-organized with the trees spread across the area, this was a nice forest but the area for his creatures and production would have to be altered. Summoning up all the energy around him Hiris began growing layers upon layers of his heart tree, it consumed all the other trees along the way, adapting any abilities they had into large roots instead of trees.
Now the tree was a towering behemoth that was as wide as a small mountain and a high as one too. The underground root system contains the remains of the ore trees converted into roots where the imps mine for resources. And now the lava stream goes directly up the center of the tree, passing by and warming the heart before being channelled north to the new smelting room on ground level. The Dining room was what imps mourned the most there was a "biggest di"-*ahem* "distinctable chair" contest where the imps showed up their craftsmanship, all destroyed when the room was moved, temporarily growing fruit in the forge (Not to be eaten in the forge or you wake up next to the other prisoners)
During this whole event all of the scouting creatures had returned, and 5 vine panthers in total were equipped with metal claws, even some had pieces of metal melted onto sufficiently appropriate places, such as the top of the head, and on the back. Of course this fortress would need a larger force, and Hiris summoned ten more ogres.
Now with the feat of magic over, he laid out a plan for excavating new rooms.

I wake up, surrounded by vines. And imps. And a panther that's made out of vines.
"Let me free!" I yell at the imps, straining against the vines. One snaps, but before I can react another takes it's place.
"My keeper will wreak much havoc upon you." I growl at them, sending them scurrying away.
"Your keeper?" A large orc asks me. He seems bigger, smarter than the rest. I'm guessing he's another construct.
"I'm a construct. My keeper is called Kleo. He lives nearby, and has forces stronger than yours doubled. He wishes for peace. I decide to take a joy ride, get smashed into your Dungeon quite incidentally, and you chain me up? Talk about hospitality." I inform the orc, laying back comfortably in my vines. They can actually be quite soft. Almost like a warm blanket. Like the one at home, when- wait.
"What have you done with my bow? Black, Eldritch heartwood, enchanted by dark magic? Where is it?" I ask with desperation. If I can get, or even only see my bow, I would feel much more at ease. Much more. CREATURES:

Hiris walked into the room holding the bow, quite the dramatic flare but life would be no fun without it.
"The energy in the bow matches the type I've seen before off the coast, your master can't get close enough to harm me on my own dungeon grounds. Though the only talk of peace I've received is right now through your mouth, when we happen to be in a good position if peace were not to happen. Bargaining chips don't fall out of the sky you know.
If it really makes you more comfortable Gliff here can hold your bow, and bring it in every once in awhile so you know it's still there. Maybe I will send a message to your keeper and we can work something out."
Other than expanding the vines, more progress had to be done to take advantage of this new fortress, the roots were a productive resource and they had almost too much metal on hand then they were using for armouring the monsters. So Hiris gathered around the best imp engineers and told them to begin making a ballista. They scurried out to make the machine, but informed him that the augments he wanted on the outer trees to draw more magic would not be finished, only one was done.
With many rooms completed so that all levels of the tree could be accessed Hiris instructed the imps to make a new expansive dining room above the tree base so that when exiting the forge it was easily visited, also the dining room was to be expanded so that they could grow all the fruit inside.
A few vine creatures have stated settling on different shapes, such as humanoid and wolf, it occurred to Hiris that if the spectrum of creatures formed diversified too much he would have to limit it.
((Jane's POV... again...))
I whimper pitifully. Fed next to nothing in this hell hole, only allowed glimpses of my bow... it was horrifying.

Amongst the Glowing Heart sits a sole creature, staring with it's lifeless eyes, watching as these newfound friends do it's bidding, he hadn't asked, though he hadn't needed to, knowing that they would eventually show up, such was the order of things.
The first room was nothing more than a stone forge, though lacking in numbers, stone imps made up for it with their efficiency, with this new stone forge they could create more imps to help them carry out their master's wishes, increasing build time of other annexed rooms, they already knew that now they would have to make some form of barracks to build up defences.
Malsirus manifested himself and found this being. "you must have originated from whatever keeper this once belonged to, do you mind telling me what you know and I will consider it" he said with his toothy grin.
The imps began work on breaking through a cave In.

Hating the things you love

The harvester may not yet be done, but it should be close.

"Hello Kleo." Jane told me, standing up now. She has a pair of wings, blue like most of her. Slowly she flexed them up and down. Long, angular and light like the rest of her, they were built for speed over strength.
"Jane. Do you feel... well?" I ask her, walking around her once. She grinned and showed off a bit.
"Never better." She answered, and I knew it was true. She looked absolutely flamboyant, as high as the sky.
"Good. Start scouting the surrounding area for other settlements, and make note of them. Remind the Imps to procure some mythril on the way out as well, please." I tell her, and she bows rather low. Well, someone enjoys their job.

"I seem to have found another Keeper, Kleo. He lives nearby, in the forest upon the mainland. As far as I can see, he specializes in plant like creatures, although I wasn't able to see his newest creation. His imps were mining ores from trees, Iron and tin among others." Jane tells me. Slowly and deliberately I write a note to this keeper. He should make a fine ally.
Dear unknown Keeper,
I am Kleo, a Dungeon Keeper much like yourself.
I write carefully in looping shapes before making it disappear with a crack and a flash of light, reappearing in the place I could gather from Jane's memories (outside the Heart).

Hating the things you love

"Sh*t." I half whisper as imps gather around my form before I black out, my mind succumbing to the darkness of unconsciousness.

Much more.
