It's a shame we don't have our own forum (yet) but it's kinda obvious to me that there needs to be a thread for discussing role plays. This thread is meant to be a place for players to share ideas, get critique on characters (or RPs), speak their mind on topics to do with role playing.

I'd like to start on character sheets:
Sometimes I think people are too concerned about getting into a RP quickly and throw up a hash character sheet as fast as possible. While speed isn't a problem it's a hell of a good idea to think about the character first. When I read a character sheet it's like if I was reading a movie script, I should be able to dress up exactly like the character and act them out when I read a player's post.
Also I think too many people don't think about their bios/histories enough, way too many people use "forgotten past", "trained from young age to be a killer" or "killer for no real reason" for pasts and seeing at least one of each appear in every RP it's honestly sad. I think history is the best part about a character, for me RPing is about telling the story of a character and it doesn't end in the application. I personally try and keep building up their past continuously as well as their personality as long as possible.
One of my favourite screen writers said "I don't want to watch a movie about a man killing someone. I want to watch a movie and feel something". Hollywood does a good job of making every movie the same, but I only remember the ones that make me shed a tear, feel connected, feel love, draw my curiosity or happy you know?
The problem with this thread, and I probably should have mentioned this earlier before it got onto the top of the second page, is that it really doesn't have much use. IMHO.

Most people make up their own ideas by themselves before posting. There are poor ideas, true, but it's rather likely that someone with the poor idea would come post here. Not only that, but I doubt that anyone would help and critique, instead telling said person to participate and gain experience to know how to make an RP and how to participate in one. Basically, same for characters. I doubt many people would come by and help out people make their character sheets. In fact, that should be done in the RP when someone posts a lesser application. Unfortunately, that no longer happens, and few people end up learning.

...It doesn't really happen. I don't see this happening. But maybe.
