Tarel figured it would be a good idea to search through that book, but he didn't want to stop reading the comic book. It was up to a really good part where the main wizard had to pick between his apprentice surviving and taking back the keystone amulet. Tarel sighed as he grabbed the folklore book and began reading that instead.
Ashen took off around the library, looking at all the various books on their shelves as she flew.
The book contains legends about the Shades and the Dark Witch.

"I see," mutters Lere. "Sounds like something I should've seen for myself."
Lere silently walks away, scratching his chin.
Destroying this city is just one step in their plan, thinks Lere to himself. They sort of made it look like they were gonna make a difference by just destroying this one sealed city that everybody has probably forgotten about. No, they plan to destroy not just Kurovsk, but possibly take over the outside world. But what's stopping them from just dispelling the barrier and running off? No, they probably had nothing to do with the barrier. My wild guess is that they're trying to find the source of the barrier before anyone else does, and hiding it behind the guise of an attack. But where could the object be now? I recall Darth saying that the original owner of his house had disappeared into the forest... it can't be a coincidence, could it? No, something important had to have happened. And there's still that one crater that pulls people in. I have to find a way to investigate both. And the mysterious witches... Who are they? They said they're allied with the Shades. Are the Shades independent now?
After his internal monologue, Lere decides to try to find a book chronicling who exactly lead the Shades in the past, and how they were defeated.

He finds a book that goes into more detail about the Shade Legend.
The Shades were lead by a being named the Grand Shade, who lived in a fortress deep in the forest. He used the Shades to terrorise humanity until he was finally defeated by a band of adventurers from all over the world. Individual Shades weren't difficult to defeat, but in numbers they were a great threat.
The two stories are actually separate parts; one part about the shades and the other about the Witches (and, by extent, the Dark Witch)
Tarel knows he should read these parts, he really does. The next 20 minutes is spent reading more comic books before he finally finishes and reads the part about the witches.

Lere walks out of the library, feeling that he had learned enough information for now. He walks to the town square and tries to see if he can get a good look at the crater.

According to the Legends, the witches lived in the area long after the shades had been defeated. They lived amongst the humans, secretly cursing them and causing all kinds of bad luck. The most notorious witch was the powerful Dark Witch. Witch Trials were put in place in Kurovsk to deal with the witches, and many died by being burned. Only the Dark Witch was never found and she is said to still live today, dooming those who enter the Dark Forest.

A makeshift fence surrounds the crater as guards investigate the tall obelisk in the centre of the crater.
Cali reads through eyewitness reports of the object.
Most eyewitness reports agree on one thing: A large object fell from the sky and crashed into the forest. The descriptions of the objects are all vague, with only the astronomer Lere mentioned providing useful information regarding the object's state as it crashed into the forest. A list of names of the people whom's reports are in the collection is in the back of the collection.

Ashen wonders if books are good to eat.

Tarel nods to himself while reading. He thought of something to look up, thought about it for a moment then just went for it, flicking though the book for legends on fairies.

It turns out that there aren't really any legends on fairies. Most of the stories that can be found are written by people complaining about pranks fairies have played on them.

Hoping for a good laugh, Tarel reads them anyway.

He reads a story about a rich noble who used to boss everyone around until one day a fairy stole all of his clothes so he had to wear one of his wife's dresses and everybody made fun of him. He never did get his clothes back and was known as the Well-Dressed Noble for the rest of his life.

Tarel smirks as he reads the story. They certainly know how to do simple yet effective pranks. He put the book back and decided to resume his hunt for spells, but this time by looking for someone he could ask where they could be, if there were any.

Tarel reads that part. All the other parts were unimportant apparently.
Ashen latches onto one of the bookshelves and watches from above.

It's a large list of the names, adresses and jobs of people who have submitted reports along with the page on which their report can be found.
One of the guards seems to be copying the symbols on the obelisk by writing it down on a piece of paper.
Another guard pokes the obelisk and gets launched back a few feet.

There is a fence around the crater and two guards are patrolling it.
The librarian tells him that, to get a permit, he needs to go request one at the town hall.
