In the span of a week in the last month of the 20th century, five people were born in the eastern wing of Clarkeston’s Royal Memorial Hospital.
Clarkeston was a town of approximately 150,000 people. It encompassed Fisher’s Bay, an inlet of a rather large lake at an inland location. The town was nearly a century and a half old, and had been ordinary for the entirety of its existence. The economy and the population were both prospering and remained functionally diverse, and in the past few decades they had both experienced growth. This expansion had no extraordinary effects on the town. As it grew, it spread, and the ties which had once held the community together gradually fell away. Sects developed within the population, just as they developed in the world. Over time, this world grew to be more important for the citizens of Clarkeston. More expedient transportation, the dispersion of information over the internet, the implications of increased immigration, and of course the instant connectivity provided by social media, caused huge cultural shifts. As the world developed a vast, universal culture, and as subcultures developed within this culture, so too did subcultures develop within Clarkeston. The older residents of the town watched as their community grew less tightly knit, while the new arrivals appreciated the town for its simplicity, peacefulness, and the congeniality which proliferated within the population. Youth, however, are often more pessimistic when viewing established traditions and cultures, so to a child of Clarkeston, the city might have appeared boring, bland, or uneventful. To remedy this perception, the newest generation would always reach out and expand their activities to form their own societal norms and acceptabilities. Teenagers, such as those born between December 10th and 17th of 1999, are at the prime of their ability to develop the culture in which they will live as adults. By experimenting, educating themselves, engaging in different aspects of society, and speaking up on issues of importance, it is the youth who develop the world we live in. Clarkeston, with four huge secondary institutes, was no different.
At 11:13 PM, on September 15th, 2016, everything stopped.
On a residential street, a man and his dog ceased to move in the blink of an eye. In the bay, fish stopped swimming. Boats suffered the same fate. The lake simmered for a moment, and then it, too, was still. Cars halted in time with their drivers, not drifting even a millimetre. Insects and birds fell out of the air. A flickering streetlight settled off; another remained infinitely on. The rays of light themselves seemed to remain stationary and unchanging, as if the energy which composed them had been frozen. The moon’s slow crawl across the pitch-black sky stalled and paused in an instant.
In a span of time immeasurable by any known increment, everything stopped, save for five teenagers.
The moon shone brightly, overlying the eerie, passive lighting of the streetlamps. Overhead, the sky itself was draped in Nyx’s black. Shadows peered from every corner. Five teenagers were all that still stirred.
Yet in the darkness, something new was frightening.

This is 1999-2016, a tale of five teenagers who suddenly find themselves to be the last active remnants of our world. We’ve reached what always seems to be the hardest part of an introductory post, so I’ve decided to do it in a Q&A format for easier reading. (And writing!)
Q: Can you briefly describe the premise of this roleplay?
A: In this roleplay, all characters were born in a single wing of a hospital during the week of December 10th-17th, 1999. At 11:13 on September 15th, 2016, everything within the town in which they live suddenly stops, except for them.
Q: What are some plots you expect to see in this roleplay?
A: Obviously, one of the main plots will be trying to figure out what is going on. Why has everything halted so suddenly? What do the character’s have in common? Why is that important? Hopefully, there will also be many smaller, inter-character adventures, motives, and conflicts, which will evolve as facets of the main plot. Finally, to make sure that this roleplay remains consistently interesting, there are some very creepy creatures crawling in the this eternal night.
Q: Are you really only going to allow five characters?
A: Five is an ideal number. If there are a vastly larger number of people interested within the first few days, then I’ll vet the applications thoroughly and select however many I feel meet the standards of this roleplay.
Q: What will happen if a character leaves?
This is very likely to happen, over time. If I feel as though there are not enough characters remaining in the roleplay for the story to move on effectively, I’ll investigate possibilities for introducing a new character. I have one idea which I particularly like for how this could be dealt with, but I don’t want to spoil too much. Alternatively, if this roleplay dwindles to just a couple of characters, but it is already rather close to a finale, I might decide not to incorporate anyone new, and simply power through to the end.
Q: How many characters will a user be allowed?
A: Most roleplayers tend to stick with one character per roleplay any way, so here, that will be the rule. If there is a wide demand for more, I’ll reconsider this rule.
Q: Earlier, you mentioned standards. Would you like to expand?
A: Absolutely. The standards I am looking for are an impressive writing ability, a polite attitude, a history of being active on roleplays, and an ability to read and follow rules. There are so many people on this forum who have these simple skills that I feel it is fair to ask for them in anyone who wants to join this roleplay.
Q: You also mentioned a finale. Does that mean this roleplay has a finite end?
A: Yes. Generally, the roleplays which I join are very open-world, open-plot, but with this roleplay there is a specific plot, and a rather closed world (the only setting available is the city and the forests/fields which surround it). So, with such a specific plot, it stands to reason that there is a clear finale; a point at which pushing forward would have no effect except to weaken the story and the character’s within it.
Q: Will you be open to more questions in the future?
A: Without a doubt! This section might be edited in the future with more information, or with answers to some frequently asked questions from the thread.
Q: It’s been great speaking with me.
A: Likewise.

You guessed it - it’s time to apply! Included below are both a copy+paste-friendly version, as well as the detailed form to help you figure out how to fill some of these crazy sections.
Name: This is for the character’s name, not your name. First and last, if you please.
Gender: Just so others can quickly reference your character, in the case that they forget.
Age: This will be 16 for all characters, so simply give the date of your birth. Remember that your choices are December 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th of the year 1999.
Appearance: Give as many details as you can. Include current clothing, jewellry, and hair style, as well as unchanging physical attributes. A good length for this section might be about 250 words.
Biography: This doesn’t need to be too detailed, but it should cover some important events from the character’s life, and provide an exposition of the character’s current situation. This section might average at around 200 words.
Other: What do you fear? Hint: There is only one answer which will allow you to be accepted.

Well, this here is the final section of the post, where I wrap up some loose ends and make a last-ditch effort to persuade you into joining.
A few things worth noting:
There is a map below. Please note that I am not a cartographer, nor a city-planner, nor in any way proud of the map which I have provided. It is only to be used so that people understand the general direction of various landmarks. There is no compass rose on the map, but up is north. Also, expect it to be updated in the future.
Apologies for all of the snakes on this page. They’re just handy dividers. And totally not subliminal foreshadowing.
The in-character page will be posted once five people have applied and been accepted. However, if we do not reach a sufficient number of applicants, this roleplay will not start. So, if you want to join, lead the charge!
A small disclaimer is required: I have watched Stranger Things and absolutely loved it. Some aspects of this roleplay, as they are revealed, may seem to be inspired by it. Chances are that, subconsciously, they are. But we don’t mind that, do we?
Appearance: Of Japanese ethnicity, Aoki has dark hair, that reaches to just above their shoulders. Their hair is fairly straight, though appears wavy quite commonly, due to its easy manipulation by movement and wind. Aoki’s eyes are a dark, steel grey, that rarely holds any emotion. Despite their fairly long hair, Aoki has a very androgynous appearance, aided by their neither definitively feminine nor masculine features. They have a fairly ovoid face shape. Aoki usually wears dark clothing, occasionally tainted by bright highlights of their favourite colours, amber and green. During the warmer months, Aoki usually wears t-shirts, sweaters, and knee-length cargo shorts. When the weather turns colder, Aoki commonly wears jeans and collared shirts. These shirts range from solid colours and shades, to the occasional subdued plaid. Aoki despises majorly formal clothing, for both impracticality and the specifically masculine or feminine looks of suits and dresses. Aoki tends to avoid any jewelry other than a single necklace, a small, silver dream catcher pendant on a delicate silver chain. Aoki has a very neutral voice, resting just on the border between femininity and masculinity. Aoki’s expression is usually quite unreadable, solemn and blank. They don’t outwardly express enthusiasm or happiness too often, remaining quite casual and placid most of the time in their external expression. The dark shades of Aoki’s clothing and hair, and their fairly quiet presentation allow them to easily blend into the background of situations, going quite unnoticed.
Biography: Born on December the 13th of 1999, Aoki is 16 years old, in the eleventh grade. Their mother, a poor, young, single woman, gave Aoki up for adoption immediately after their birth, believing that a different family could care for them better than her. Aoki was born biologically male, however identified neutrally from a young age, not feeling like they identified with a binary gender. Aoki was adopted only a month later, and was raised by a loving family. The only legacy Aoki’s birth mother left with them was their name and surname: Aoki Ichisada. Despite the care and love that their family gave them, Aoki grew up fairly detached from their adoptive parents. The daughter of their non-biological parents, and Aoki’s non-biological sister, Alex, was around the same age as Aoki. Unlike their relationship with their parents, Aoki was quite close to their sister, finding that they had many things in common with her. For Aoki’s 13th birthday, Alex gave them a small, silver dream catcher pendant on a delicate silver chain, an item which they refuse to take off, in memory of their sister. Their sister was their best friend, until she died along with Aoki’s adoptive parents when their house burned down. Aoki was 14 at the time. Although Aoki had never been too close with their parents, they did grieve for a short amount of time, their life suddenly feeling empty without the presence of their adoptive family. The major loss of the fire for Aoki was Alex, who they had grown closer to over the years. Even two years later, Aoki still feels the agonizing pain of Alex’s loss. After bouncing between several foster homes, Aoki found a new permanent home, with another set of loving parents. These new parents had no children, leaving the gaping hole Alex’s death had left in Aoki’s life completely empty, without even someone who remotely resembled the figure Alex had been.
Aoki is a very understated individual, rarely showing true enthusiasm or excitement. They are usually very sarcastic, dry, and seem generally uninterested in what happens around them. Aoki is quite reserved about their life, rarely talking about their home or past with others. They are filled with strange, usually useless talents; unique skills that they have learned and mastered while bored during their spare time. Aoki is a very quick learner, and has an excellent memory. They bore easily, and find things such as small talk pointless and insignificant. Aoki doesn’t panic easily, staying very calm under pressure or stress. They aren’t significantly interested in social matters, but are nowhere near insecure while around people, simply radiating an air of annoyance whenever they must, in their opinion, ‘waste’ their time talking about and explaining trivial matters.
Other: Aoki doesn't fear much, but they fear the dark, due to a traumatic experience in the dark while they were younger. Since the fire that burned down their house and killed their first adoptive family, Aoki has feared fire or anything related, such as smoke or intense heat. They refuse to go near any flames, even if they are just from a small, controlled campfire. Other than around fire and in the dark, Aoki is a very calm, stable person during dangerous, stressful, or foreign situations. Aoki attends Goodman Secondary School.
Appearance: (I'll attach a photo to this, but its all in writing.) Lilly has waist length, chocolate brown hair. She also has very pale skin, as she is of a white ethnicity. She has deep, blue or teal green eyes. She is a rather small 16 year old, only five-foot two in height. Lilly is also rather slim, weighing only around 100 pounds. She has a rather athletic build, and is very agile and quick on her feet. She is normally seen wearing casual clothing: Occasional ripped jeans, Hoodie, T-shirts, that kind of stuff. In school, she is seen wearing a uniform (shown in the spoiler somewhere below) that her mom had bought for her. As for what she was wearing at the point of the time stop, Lilly is wearing a simple plain white T-shirt and blue jeans. She is also wearing a blue jacket, as her house gets cold during nights. With the type of personality Lilly has, mixed with her clothes, she definitely stands out in a crowd. She is usually always smiling or laughing about some topic. One other thing about Lilly is she will never wear any makeup or jewelry.
,
Biography: Lilly was born on December 11th, 1999, and she is 16 years old an in 11th grade. She was born in a rather high class family, and soon became very out-casted within said family due to her tom-boyish nature. She was never close with anyone in her family, other then her dad. Around the time she was five, her mother and father divorced, and Lilly always believed it was partially her fault. Her dad got custody of her and they moved out of the old family home into a small house in Clarkeston, in said house she still currently lives. Throughout her school years, Lilly seemed to be a rather popular one, though she never seemed to notice. She fit in best with a crowd of boys and always felt comfortable talking in front of large groups of people. The day of the time stop had been a rough one. She had gotten into a fight with her dad, and hadn't spoken to him the whole day afterwards. Added to that, when she checked her backpack for her supplies, she found that her entire two page boom report was blank and she had to stay up late and finish it. Around the time of 'the time stop', Lilly was finishing up her book report that she had neglected. The way she found out about the world being frozen in time is: She was walking down the hall to apologize to her dad and ask him for advise on her report, only to find him frozen in mid air. A football game was on the T.V. None of the players moved either.
Other: (Fear the Dark...) Lilly is very calm, except when in dark places, as she has slight Nyctophobia. She is rather brave, and is extremely tom-boyish. She is always ready for a challenge.
@TheNinthOne: That fits the requirements. Aoki is accepted! @Macy_Casy: Also accepted! Just to let you you (and everyone) know, this roleplay will be starting at 11:13 PM on that September 15th.
Even if five people do apply and are accepted, feel free to still post your applications. Five is only an idea which I had in my head. There's nothing to stop the actual number from being larger. (But not too much larger.)

Unfortunately, I have to deny this application. The length of the various informative sections, as well as the impertinence or unexplainedness of the subject matter simply makes this an application which, if accepted, would set a bad precedent. I hate to deny anyone, but for the sake of keeping a certain standard in this roleplay, this is one application which I don't believe that I have a choice but to deny. My apologies.

Unfortunately, reservations won't be accepted for this roleplay. Try to get your application in as soon as possible!
That's fine. I'll try to get mine in. If I don't, that's fine too.
I'll (attempt to) do an application in the next day or two if other people don't beat me to it.
Quote me if you want a reply, and please click that little if I helped you out.
Paxit - A Nation-Building Forum Roleplay. Join us!Rest in peace, Paxit.Even if five people do apply and are accepted, feel free to still post your applications. Five is only an idea which I had in my head. There's nothing to stop the actual number from being larger. (But not too much larger.)
Will the IC be going up anytime soon? Or are we still waiting for more people to apply?

I am still awaiting more applications. I don't want to start with less than five people.
