Every generation, certain children are gifted with the power to transform. Commonly called Spirit Animals, each child has their own animal they can transform into at will, giving them both the physical strength and powers of their creature, and some select mental and magical powers. In this world of magic and technology, this isn't such a strange thing, even if it is unique.
But this year, something different happened. For the first time, some children started popping up with the ability to transform into animals that do not exist. Mythical. Or so we thought...
In this modern world of 2016, we have all the technology of today, along with sprinklings of magic. Magic mostly consists of items, enchanted relics that do very specific things. They are common enough that the general public can find, buy and use them, (mostly in antique shops), but you won't have a pile of them unless you are very rich or a magic fanatic.
These relics are all that remain of the old world, where magic was everything, and monsters roamed the earth. But no one living remembers the old creatures, and no remnants remain, no fossils or scales, so they are considered myths, or illusions of ancient wizards.
Those lucky few that had a mythical creature form assumed it was simply very rare, and not something strange. But an old, forgotten group took notice, and each of the Spirit Monsters ended up getting letters, which read:
Dear ____________,
We have come to notice that you have a very unusual ability, and would like to meet you. Heller was in no need of packing, as he got nothing but his wallet. With this much money, I'd never need a job for another three months. He thought to himself. He gave farewell to his 'friends', and left to IMRS. He took a subway to downtown, and bought a backpack for the trip. He waited at a bus stop for a ride, but strangely found no bus passing by.
After half an hour waiting for a bus, Heller decided to walk. After several miles of roaming around the nearby block, he lost track of where he was. He finally found an empty bus at the nearest bus stop. He walked to the driver and asked "Hey, pal. You don't happen to know what IMRS is, right?". The driver answers with a simple nod. "Why, I do know that place. In fact, I was paid to get ya' there." said the driver. Heller found the response suspicious, Who is this guy? How'd he know me? and many more thoughts keeps hitting his head. But regardless, he asked the driver to take him there. "Alright, sit back, relax. This is gonna take a while." said the driver. Heller took a seat, and waited for the long journey.
After falling asleep, he woke up when the bus suddenly stopped. He heard the driver said "Rise and shine, buddy. We're here.". Heller stood up and yawned, and was about to pay the driver, when he stopped him by saying "That's not necessary. Are you even listening to what I said back at the bus stop? I said they paid me to drive you here. So thanks, but no thanks.". Heller got off the bus, and the bus took off. He takes a look at the IMRS, Holy... What is this place? How come no one ever talked or mentioned about this? thought himself. He leisurely walks down the hall of IMRS, looking at the elegant architecture of the building. He arrived at the lobby, only to find one girl present at the room. Huh? Guess the other haven't arrived. he thought to himself. Heller took a seat near the girl and greets her, "Hi. Name's Heller. How you doing? Been here for long?".
Andromeda had been rudely roused from her nap in the back of the bus upon her arrival at IMRS. Her bus driver has a grouchy, withered man who, when he realized she was awake, mutely thrust his thumb towards the front of the bus and hobbled his way back to his seat. Andi struggled upright, shifting her backpack from under her head to her back. She stood fully and grabbed her duffle bag and roller suitcase. She shouldered the strap of the duffle bag amd hurried her way towards the front of the bus, digging in her pocket the whole way up. Before he could protest, she thrust a few dollars into his hand and scampered off the bus. "Thank you!" She called to the driver as she walked away.
She pushed open the front door of IMRS, and was slightly distressed to see a group already forming. "Hi!" She cried out, waving at the group. Andi hurried over, dropping her duffle bag at her side as soon as she slid to a stop. "Hey, hi! Hope I didn't keep you guys waiting. I'm Andi! Who're you folks?"
Zach woke up to the alarm, groggily getting out of bed. He slowly checked the calendar, seeing what day it was, until his eyes widened. "Today's actually the day?" he questioned as got increasingly more excited. He threw on his backpack and got dressed, before running out the door and stopping a cab. "IMRS." he explained where he wanted to go. He handed the driver money and sat there, waiting to arrive. He tapped his foot with anticipation, a million things racing through his mind. He got out and looked up at the building in awe. "Wow..." he simply said as he walked in, hands on his backpack straps.
He saw the group, going up to them nervously yet confident. "Hi, the name's Zach, uh.. yeah." he manged to force out a few words as his eyes scanned the interior, smiling.
Elija's eyes snapped open.
He had woken up late.
He could tell from the sun streaming in from the window, which meant it must be past seven, and the smoke he could smell from downstairs, which meant it was past nine. His sister never tried to cook early in the morning.
He practically launched himself out of bed, and flew around the room, grabbing up the last few things he needed. Luckily, he had already packed most of his clothes and stuff yesterday, and now he only needed a backpack with the essentials. The Institute might be offering full hotel services, but he had yet to see a hotel that provided toothbrushes!
He rummaged through his drawers for a moment. Notebook? Yes. Pencils? Yes. Elvis Presley bobblehead? ....nah.
He pricked his finger on something, then pulled it out. A Swiss Army Knife. He shrugged his shoulders and dumped it in the bag as well. Maybe someone at the Institute would need a screwdriver.
After a couple more minutes, he zipped the backpack up and flung it over his shoulders, then grabbed up his suitcase and rushed downstairs. He was greeted with a plate full of slightly charred pancakes and a toothy smile from his older sister, Skylar "Good moooooorniiing!"
Too rushed to reply, he simply smiled back, while shoveling the pancakes into his mouth, along with a healthy dose of syrup. While his sister got started burning the sausages, he pulled out his letters and read over them once more. After he'd sent a letter back to confirm that he wanted to go, he'd gotten another, describing the time and place that he should show up. Already he was almost half an hour late, but they could hurry.
After the fastest breakfast of his life, he practically dragged his sister out to the car. He had his learners, but he still had to drive with someone in the car, and his sister had volunteered to just take him there.
Halfway out of the driveway, she stomped on the brake so hard Elija nearly lost his lunch. "We forgot to say goodbye to mom and dad!"
Dropping his stuff, they ran back inside and burst into their parents bedroom, where they were fast asleep after a long night at the hospital. Apparently there had been some surgery for a rather important patient.
After some whispered goodbyes and some hugs, they were on their way again.
Half a mile away, they turned a corner, and the Institute came into view. Elija gaped at the building, with its huge glass walls and iron supports. It wasn't beautiful or elegant, but it certainly was impressive. Especially for someone who lived on the outskirts of the city, seeing the skyscrapers on the horizon, but never really noticing just how big they were. He pulled a lump of green modeling clay from his pocket, plucked off the lint, and tried to shape it into the building.
When they got to the edge of the parking lot, Elija crushed the little skyscraper in his palm and pointed. "You can drop me off here."
Skylar just laughed. "I'm going in too! There's no way I'm going to miss any of this!"
Fine minutes of finding a parking spot later, they grabbed his stuff and rushed inside. The inside of the building seemed bigger than the outside, as strange as that seemed, with the cavernous hallways and double doors every twenty feet. They found a map, and used that to direct themselves to the lobby, Elija fast walking ahead, while his sister huffed and puffed her way behind him. When they finally came into view of the lobby, it already seemed filled with people, most of them (if not all), older than him. Hoping it was the right group, he slid to a stop in front of them. "How late am I? Is this the group that got the letters?"

Andi grinned at the new arrivals, reassured that she wasn't the last to arrive. "I think so! Something about how they want us to stay and help them progress their research, right?" She held out her hand to the boy who had asked. "Andi. What's you're name?"
((No problem, dialogue is usually one person to another in shorter sentences anyway :P))
"Cool, that sounds right, I think. Elija. I'm Elija, that is." He took her hand, shaking it. Generally he would keep his hand stiff as a board, as a joke, but he'd only just met these people, so he'd save those for later. "That's my sister, Skylar." She jogged up to them right then, out of breath, and nodded around.
Elija glanced around. There were only five other people here, not counting him. Strange, he would have assumed there were more people with this weird ability, because no matter how rare it was, there were still billions of people on the planet, after all. Maybe this was just the few in this general area.
Right then, a short, rather round old man bustled in, through an inconspicuous little door behind the desk. He was wearing a black shirt with a long white labcoat, the ends trailing on the ground. But he didn't seem to notice. His eye boggled from behind a large pair of glasses, and overall just had the impression of a tad off-center scientist. (if not quite mad)
He glanced over the group, counting, a smile spreading across his face. "One, two three four, five six seven..." He frowned a bit. "Hmm. Not everyone has showed up yet." After a moment, he shrugged. "I'm sure they'll arrive eventually!"
Skylar was too winded to object, and the little man was moving right along before Elija even realized what confusion had just happened.
"I trust you've had time for some introductions and the like?" He peered over his glasses at them. "I'm Dr. Style, and I'm the one who called you here. Your abilities are very very special, and we've never seen people with anything like them, ever!" He shook his head. "But I'm getting ahead of myself. Why don't you get settled in first." He toddled over to another door, one of the big double doors, and pushed it open. "Your quarters are all down here. We don't normally have people staying at the Institute, but I had some rooms remodeled specially for this. There are only four, so not quite enough for all of you, but they are large enough for two people to stay quite comfortably."
He gestured to the group. "Why don't you drop your things off and pick some roommates for the next little while, and then come out here and ring the bell when you are ready to start learning and finding out just why you are all so special." He grinned at them all. "Any questions?"

Andi shrugged casually. "I don't really mind who I'm rooming with. I'm pretty much up for anything." Her gaze traveled across the faces of the other new residents of IMRS before it rested on Lenore's. "You wanna pair up, since we're both ladies?" She let out a soft, relaxed chuckle. "Figure that'll make it easier on everyone else. Whaddya say?"
Zach just stood there and shrugged. "I'll room with anybody." He explained, still eyeing the room around him. (Short post, I know. A bit busy right now,)
Andi gathered up her luggage and scampered after Lenore, pleased to have already found someone that she could get along with. She dumped her bags in the corner as soon as she got into their new room, and dug a few things out of her duffle bag. Soon, she had hung up a few swimming medals and her lifeguarding tank top.

((Sorry for very late reply. Today was a very busy day, with my school's weekly exams and all. Anyway, sorry.))
After the short introduction, Heller got up and goes to pick a room. With the girls picking one room, and one boy picking another, Heller picked the nearest vacant room. As he enters the room, he was very pleased. Never has he had a better room ever since the incident. He threw his bag at the bed, and sat at the nearest chair. Dang... I need more decoration for my room. But I don't think there's any shops for miles away, so forget it. he thought to himself. He didn't need to unpack anything, so he decided to get some rest. He tried to sleep, but somehow he can't. So he chose to just stay awake for the moment.
Zach walked around, looking for a vacant room. He saw one at the back and carefully walked in. Nice, he thought, This place is cool. He eyed the two beds and set his backpack down on the one closest to the door. He rummaged through it. He didn't need a suitcase, as he brought mainly only necessities. He pulled out his phone and put it into his pocket carefully. He then laid down on the bed and fell asleep. (Sorry that it's short. Not much is going on in the roleplay at the moment to write about.)
After watching the rest of the group drift off to their rooms, Elija grabbed his stuff again, and wandered after the guy who said he would room with anyone, leaving his sister to catch her breath on one of the lobby couches. He nodded at Dr Style, and the old man nodded back, then hurried back through the door. The bell sat on the desk, and Elija suppressed the urge to ring it.
By the time he'd dumped his stuff and turned around, his new roommate was asleep, which seemed rather strange considering it was the middle of the day. But then again, Elija had always been a little strange with sleeping habits, at least compared to other teens.
He coughed, trying to find out what to say. "Maybe we should go see if the others are ready to see what Dr. Style wanted to do?"
After a moment, he realized he hadn't actually said it out loud, or if he had, not loud enough to be heard. Maybe it would be easier to ask someone who was awake, and then they could come back to wake this guy up.
So he walked back out, and poked his head in the first open door he came to. "Uhh... do you think we should go see what the Doctor wanted us for, a tour or something...?"

Beatrice was half-asleep in the taxi that was taking her to the IMRS. After receiving the notice about the institute where she was needed to come to, she made sure to pack up early, gathering items she needed the most such as clothing, bathroom supplies, important electronics and other whatnots. Once it was the day of departure, Beatrice didn't think twice to bid farewell to her parents. Even if she wanted to, they were on a business trip outside of the country, and while they were aware of the notice that she received, they haven't bother yet to give a call on her leave or even wish her good luck.
When Beatrice began to notice that the taxi was slowing down, she assumed that she had reached her destination. She blinked her eyes awake, and was greeted to an enormous building to the window she was leaning on. She even had to lower her head to get a complete view of the building and its entirety.
"Here's your stop, miss," informed the driver.
"Right, well thank you for the trip," replied Beatrice, leaving the car before taking her small carry-on bag with her. For a moment, she took the time to appreciate the area where the building was, before making her way toward the entrance. When opening the large glass door, she made her way to a large, empty lobby, where only a young woman was there, sitting in one of the lounge chairs. She seemed a little distressed while looking at a shiny golden bell next to her. Beatrice didn't seem to find anyone else, and came to the conclusion that she was either early or late.
"Well hello there," Beatrice said, approaching the girl. "I'm unsure where I'm needed to be at the moment, and I must ask if you must be another attendee who has received a notice about this department and their magical talents?" A thought suddenly struck Beatrice. "Oh, where are my matters!" Beatrice leaned down and offered a handshake. "I am Beatrice Bradbury, you are?"
(Also just a heads up that I forgot to mention that Beatrice has a British accent))
Elija realised he was looking into an empty lab room, and not one of the places where someone else was staying. Normally, 3 times would be the charm, but Elija was done asking people to come. They'd get back out when they were ready, and not before, so there was no point bothering them.
He walked back into the lobby, where one of the girls was already sitting, and another person had just showed up, one who looked about their age. Maybe she were one of the few that Dr. Style had been so sure would show up.
He caught a distinct British-sounding accent, so that was interesting. He wouldn't interrupt. Hopefully the others would be out here soon, ((hint hint)), so they could ring the bell and see exactly what Dr. Style wanted to tell them about the stuff they could do.

Zach woke up and checked the time. He quickly jumped out of bed and opened the door. He closed it as he peered down the hallway and walked down it past the rooms and into the lobby to see what was going on next. He looked around at everybody and noticed the new person. "Someone new?" He questioned as he looked around. I thought Dr. Style said that this was all of us. He sat down in a chair and waited for instructions from Dr. Style. "By the way, I'm Zach." He told the new person.
The sight of new faces appearing from one particular opening made Beatrice assume that she was the last to arrive. She sighed in disappointment, it was about the first time she has ever been late to an important event like this. The new arrivals seemed to be very friendly toward Beatrice, greeting her and sharing their names. Beatrice made sure to make a note of each person currently in the room. "Lenore, Zach, and two other confused patrons," She thought.
"Well, now that most of us have been introduced," Beatrice put emphasis on the word 'most' by mouthing it while taking pauses when saying it. She was looking at the two other young men who have yet to introduce themselves to her. "I believe I may have come a bit late than I expected. May anyone of you fill me in on important details that I was not present to hear for?"
The British girl seemed a bit annoyed with him, for whatever reason, so Elija decided the best idea would be to go along with it. "Uh, Hi then, my name's Elija. Nice to meet you. Dr Style came out just a couple minutes ago, and told us that we'd be rooming in that hallway over there." He pointed. "As soon as everyone is ready, we ring the bell and get started with whatever it was he brought us here for."
He shrugged. "So yeah. You can pick one of the rooms left down there to put your stuff."

Heller fell asleep and woke up when he reached the climax of a nightmare he had. The first thing he noticed was that there was a faint noise of a conversation. Heller took his wallet, and got out his room. He slammed the door behind him, and strolled down the hall. When he reached the lobby, he found that he was the last one to arrived, and that a new girl has arrived. "Uhh... Hey. Sorry I'm late, my name's Heller. So you just arrived, huh? Better find yourself a room to live in, pal." Heller said, nervously. "You should pick soon, 'cause probably whatever we're here for is gonna start soon."
"Elija, and Flint." Beatrice noted, a smile grew on her face. Another person later appeared from the same entrance everyone else was coming through, who introduced himself as Heller. Like the rest of Beatrice's new acquaintances, Heller informed her that she would need to pick out a room down the entry everyone came through before a certain matter began. Beatrice peered down the entry, she assumed it must have been a dorm of some kind.
"Right, well I'll have a quick gander," Beatrice dragged her carry-on away, glancing back at the crowd for a second before continuing on. She eventually reached a hallway with doors on both sides. She thought she would take a room further down, but still close to where everyone else was staying in. After looking through a few rooms that were already taken from noticeable bags and other items, she eventually settled into a room with no sign of baggage or other belongings. It would be too much of a hassle to unpack now, so Beatrice just settled her bag on top of the bed and rushed back out to catch up with everyone else.

((short reply, sorry. I have a busy day today.))

Goodbye, Halloween. See you next year.

((A very dignified British accent, I do see.))

Goodbye, Halloween. See you next year.
