The future is always shifting for those who play with power, but in the Caelam of Ul, the future can't become more volatile. Therefore, those who reside in the Caelam recognize that one has no reason not to play with power. And those who play with power, inevitably, learn to master it.
Unless they die in their own amusement.
{------|------\_/------|------}
"Welcome to the Caelam, young followers. Undoubtedly you have been deemed worthy through your actions, and for that, even Ul thanks you. Your devotion to the commandments of the Caelam are exactly what we have expected from you," announced a tall man. When his words had begun, the entire room had gone silent, every pair of eyes transfixed upon this nameless figure standing at the Scaenaria of the room. You could not believe that finally, you had made it to your dreams. Every conscious and mature act you had committed in the hopes of acknowledgement had been noticed, and now you had received your prize.
"You must have many questions," the man said, and on cue, a hundred hands were raised by the room's 100 inductees. "I'm not going to answer them," the man responded in a jovial manner, and a few nervous laughs were stifled in the crowd. "Unless you fetch me a few more goblets of water," he added, and this time the laughs of the inductees were more confident, yours included.
"The time and place for questions will arrive. For now, it is time that you learned which path Ul has placed you upon. One at a time, if you please," the man finished, and as he did so a door opened at the back of the Scaenaria. It seemed that gravity emanated from that door, because every person in the room slowly leaned towards it. Past those walls was the future. Perhaps it was a dark and dangerous one, but it was in the name of Ul. Everything was in the name of Ul.
{------|------\_/------|------}
Welcome to the Clades of Ul. This story is set in the Caelam of Ul, a huge fortress devoted to the deity Ul. The Caelam is located in our world, but in an alternate history, specifically an alternate version of the medieval era, where Christianity never overcame the Roman empire, rather it was Ulism. Undoubtedly, you play a follower of Ul, one of the latest inductees into the Caelam. But just how much do you know about Ulism? How much do you want to know?
Ulism is the devotion to the omniscient deity Ul. At the age of 16, the most devout followers are selected as inductees into the Caelam of Ul.
The Caelam of Ul is the mysterious, secluded, and enormous fortress devoted to Ul. It houses the most powerful members of Ulism, and trains the next generation of influential Ulists, be them Cliensors of Ul, Enforcers of Ul, or the men and women who will one day dictate from the Caelam. The Caelam of Ul is a fabled place, but the reality is a nightmare for those not truly ready. Thankfully, there is Ul to decide your preparedness.
The Ulists of the Caelam are the residents or inductees of the Caelam. They are loyal and devout followers of Ul, but the higher you get, the bigger your ambition.
The Clades of Ul is the name for the system into which the Ulists of the Caelam, and some Ulists outside of the Caelam, are organised. There are seven clades. Once, the clades were meant to study different disciplines in the name of Ul. After centuries of power squabbling, the clades are nearly indifferentiable, each one a tight-nit “family” of Ulists, all of whom do their part to gain power and influence for their Clade.
The Capit is a Clade lead by Shuwan T’gaki
The Videt is a Clade lead by Igor Romanski
The Vituperat is a Clade lead by Oytorum Pa’ku’nata
The Celat is a Clade lead by Salva Pendrick
The Secat is a Clade lead by Domina Noruta
The Aperit is a Clade lead by Thomas North
The Ducit is a Clade lead by Rector Novum Long. Their leader is also the Supreme Chancellor of the Caelam, at this time.
Cliensors of Ul are the people who one day leave the Caelam and preach the word of Ul across the world. Supposedly they are not affiliated with any Clade, but there is a motto that describes this relationship well. “Ubi est clade tuus? Clade tuus est in tu.” It is a rough translation of “Where is your clade? Your clade is in you.”, which roughly describes the fact that you will always carry allegiances to your clade. Cliensors lead large gatherings of followers from the outside world, and they recommend people to be inducted.
Enforcers of Ul are essentially those who form the army that keeps peace across the great Ulist empire (The empire spans across all of Asia, Europe and North Africa (Possibly further, but if so, this has not been revealed to the population)). The Enforcers are trained in strength, with some more naturally skilled members being given extra schooling in areas of interest, such as martial arts or specialized weapons training.
Characters
As has been previously stated, the vast majority of characters will be recent inductees, and because of this, they will all be 16 years of age. As part of the application process a 150 word sample post will be requested. It must somehow be related to this roleplay. Here is the rest of the Application form:
Name:
Gender:
Clade:
Biography: (Optional)
Appearance:
You should be aware that there will be death, and its figurative equivalent; banishment from the Caelam; in this roleplay. Characters that are banished will be given a chance to plead for permission to stay (If they are unsuccessful, their character is deemed inactive and is as good as dead). The creators of dead/banished characters are still allowed and encouraged to create new characters.
Writing Requirements
This is a medium-level roleplay in terms of writing-skills. I don't expect roleplayers to be capable of writing a novel per post. All that would be requested is that players write the actions of their characters, and some insight into their thinking processes. Adding more is more than welcome! So to conclude, I'd look for roleplayers who could write concise but detailed posts. For grammar and spelling, give your best effort. I understand that autocorrect on mobile devices is a pain, but make sure everything is easily understood. I find that the majority of annoying spelling mistakes come from simple words such as articles, or in contractions. They are easy to fix, so please, fix them.
Other Rules
It would be appreciated if you'd put Out-Of-Character posts between double brackets.
Pending Necessity.

Well, if you made it past that wall of text, then hopefully you don't need this section. But in case you rushed to the fancy and attractive red section, then here's what you need to know. This is a roleplay about an exclusive education program run by the government of a religiously-lead society. At first, there will be the settling of the characters. Once everyone has been thoroughly introduced, the real story will be revealed. If all goes according to plan, there will be plotting, scheming, secret planning, and other forms of concealed preparation. Betrayal, assassination, murder? Poison, daggers and swords? If all goes according to plan, this will be great fun. I hope you join, or at least post some suggestions.
Just one question, is UI confirmed to exist? Does the world get divine intervention on the odd Friday night, or is this just a religion like any other? I understand my character would believe either way, most likely, but I am curious. Also, is it pronouned you-eye, you-ee or another way? I'm guessing you-eye, as in the acronym for User Interface, but wondering is bugging me and I find myself pronouncing it you-ee. Either way, I suppose I'll apply just to see how it goes, because I'm curious. We'll see.

Silly me, I guess I chose my letters pretty badly. It's actually UL, pronounced with a slight Y sound at the beginning. As for existence, I didn't think that far. What I can tell you: It won't matter. I don't think that there is any reason I would make Ul be an actual, existent character, but I'll leave the door open in case. What I'm trying to say is: The world does not get divine interventions. This is a religion like any other, except on a far grander scale.
Oh, well I've only tried to do my application twice and misclicked it away. Not even sure how. I'll do it later, I want to go to sleep. That said, don't expect much. This is a hard setting for me, personally.
As for the Ul thing, yeah, silly me, lowercase L, I'm really dumb. I typed out my longer response twice, but I can't be bothered now. Peace!

((One more thing in association with Ul: Ul is NOT the story, not even a main part. This is meant to be a political intrigue, Ulism is only used as a backdrop. It's a part of the setting, and as such it should be referenced, but it shouldn't affect too much of the story itself.))

((The government is religiously based, and the entire empire is orchestrated from the Caelam of Ul. Within the government there is the Rector, who has the most influence. He or she is usually the leader of one of the 7 main Clades, which are listed above. Each Clade has significant influence as well, but this influence is mostly represented through their respective leaders. The leader of each Clade is elected by the clade-members, and the Rector is chosen through a process in which all those who wish to apply must spill their blood into a pool of sacred water. If the water turns a shade closer to green, then the applicant is crowned Rector. Rectors serve until there is a loss of confidence among the Clades. However, the Caelam is not where all of the decisions are made. Cliensors are allowed to make many decisions regarding their congregations, such as how certain criminal acts will be punished. The common people are given a fair amount of free will; they are allowed to travel where they like and (To a certain degree) perform whatever job they wish. In terms of the economy, there is currently no taxation. Government projects are completed by volunteers in the name of Ul, as well as the Enforcers of Ul. The society relies on a good will.
It should be taken into consideration that many citizens of the empire do not know much about the governance system. Many of the practices within the Caelam are secret.))
Clade: The Secat. Not sure how this is decided upon IC but that's my choice.
Biography: Nate was born to a fairly well off family. They are well known and respected, though he himself never went out much and is rarely recognised. He was always a thoughtful child - while never having any real problems he often dwelled on philosophical matters and the like. He was always quite opinionated, and quickly became the family's more undesirable member, though he was tolerated. Despite his family's best efforts, he was never quite satisfied with his life, until he moved on to something bigger - the Caelam. Nate was the same as everybody else. Every carefully orchestrated act, every hair in place, had gotten him here. He had worked so hard for... What? He wasn't so sure. But this was the highest calling in the society he had grown up in. This was all he wanted. Perhaps he would learn more. This was all he knew.
Appearance: Nate is of above average height for his age, and has a fairly slim build. His hair is brown, grown out to reach his eyebrows in parts and often a little messy - it hasn't been cut in a little while. His eyes are a dark brown. They are often either narrow and intimidating or downright empty, and they dart about quickly and cautiously. Gonna break the immersion here and say I don't know what he wears, I have no idea of the Caelam has its own dress code or whatever.
That's it for now, I'm a little stuck at the moment. Let me know what you think, I might be able to squeeze some more from myself. I'm not impressed either, if you're wondering. Also tired, but wanted to get this done.

Celat - Conceals. Sneaky ninja people?
Secat - Cuts. My place already. "Betrayal, assassination, murder? Poison, daggers and swords?". These sound shady.
Aperit - Opens. Well I dunno. The nice ones?
Ducit - Leads. Obvious reference to the leader of the clade leading the caelam.
This has been today's episode of Spoiling Things That Maybe Weren't Supposed To Be Spoiled. I just really wanted to know how the clades were different/significant.))

((I'm so glad you figured it out. I was considering adding more about the names later, but I guess I'll just put in a few little corrections below.))
There is history to Ulism that will be revealed in course, but in terms of the clades, they were all formed with a purpose. There are more than 7 - however these are the only ones that have remained important over time. Most of the clades have abandoned their original purpose in pursuit of power, but there are still some influences from the days of yore.
Capit - This one I'll leave a mystery, but it's not thievery.
Videt - The Videt look to see the meaning behind all things. Overtime they also came to be the de facto clade of science. (Replacing the Scit)
Vituperat - This clade was the ancient equivalent of the Enforcers of Ul. They were very feared for their skills in combat. Essentially police, but for those who spoke out against Ul or the Caelam.
Celat - This clade is the most mysterious, and there was no equivalent to them at the beginning of Ulism. Only their leaders know how they came to power.
Secat - Shady is right.
Aperit - This clade was responsible for exploration of the world. They "Opened new paths".
Ducit - This clade was responsible for leading the people in the way of Ul.
The Clade system was structured in a way in which all clades had to rely on one another in order to complete their tasks. Time passed, governments evolved, and eventually all of the clades were doing everything themselves. More will be revealed.
Also, I feel I should say: There will be a lot more Latin in this roleplay.
((Thanks for that response. Those names were way to pretentious to not be Latin, so I had to Google Translate it. Now lets hope we get some more apps some time this year))

((So that's that. I'll add more later.
((Thanks for that response. Those names were way to pretentious to not be Latin, so I had to Google Translate it. Now lets hope we get some more apps some time this year))
((Indeed, let us hope.))
Gamelord, are you still interested in this?
Mad_Man_In_A_Can, do you need any more information about this? Are you still planning on applying?
