Before I clicked to enter the Forum Games section, I was contemplating the practicality of teleportation, and the implications I thought it would have. After thorough consideration, I I've concluded that teleportation as it is commonly described could never see widespread use because ->I believe it would kill the person attempting to teleport<-. Anywhere I've seen the science-fictional technique described, I've heard it as disassembling the matter of the object being teleported and reconstructing it at the point it is being moved to. My first epiphany was the realization that being taken apart on a molecular level (or whatever level it is) would kill you. Now, if the process were a success, a person exactly like you would appear at the other end, and it would appear to everyone else as if everything went fine.
HOWEVER
If you believe in the abstract concept of souls or some other essence of life, you would see that the teleportation fell VERY short of flawless. By my mindeset, if you die, you die. Reassembling you on the far side isn't going to change the fact that you are deceased, and you will - in theory - simply be replaced by a person exactly like you when you die. It would be impossible to verify or deny, though; the person who exits the teleporter on the other end will be exactly like you and thusly have all of your memory: he or she will think the process went perfectly as well, because he or she would not be able to know if the original of him or her had died and a new one created.
