I had a long introduction, but it got redundant so **** it.
What I'm proposing is a game similar to Pixel Wars, in that you make an edit to a posted image and post it for the next user to edit. However, rather than a sci-fi/modern/space/whatever war game, it'd be a game of evolution, sorta like spore in 2d (And done right, of course).
Players would start in the water as simple organisms (A primitive fish, an ancient isopod, etc.) and work their way towards land, whilst fulfilling needs for hunger. Each turn players could make minor evolutions (Slight shifts in color, a fin gets a pixel longer), and after 10 or so turns a major evolution could take place (Lungs for breathing air, legs for walking, etc.).
Food could be acquired by (CARNIVORE): Killing and eating another organism (Players would have more than one of their organism on the map), or (HERBIVORE) devouring plants and organic matter.
The way I see it, you need to eat every other turn. Doesn't keep with the timescale for evolution, but meh.
If you haven't eaten in the past 5 turns, you will die. You cannot evolve if you haven't met your food requirements.
Omnivores have to eat every turn.
Reproduction... Players could gain 3 more of their organism each turn with a limit of 10-20(?) depending on map size.
Movement... I haven't thought much about this. I dunno if I wanna do it in pixels or just letting the player move however much they want within reason. Evolutions will affect movement speed, of course.
It sounds like it'd fail pretty quickly to me, but meh. Give me feedback, chastise me for a worthless post and a terrible idea, use a string of chatspeak and grammatically questionable swear words to insult me. Whatever floats your boat.
PICTURES :biggrin.gif:
Physical of modern planet earth (500px, this one was actually too small, a small lizard was larger than a decent sized forest) http://tinypic.com/r/30mpdgm/6
Temperature for the above map (Temperature will indeed be included if this gets off the ground) http://tinypic.com/r/1t8phu/6
That small lizard I was talking about (It was supposed to be a Brontosaurus, but it looks a tad too small for that) http://tinypic.com/r/jacmqs/6
EDIT
I just realized I didn't state the ultimate goal of the game:
1- To become the dominant species of the planet
2- To become sentient
3- To travel to another planet (There will be no space stage. Too ****ing boring.)
Other ****:
-Your brain cannot be evolved unless your food requirements are adequately met
-Your brain cannot evolve past a certain point until you learn the secrets of fire
-Viruses are not living creatures (Sorry, no zombie virus (Unless I decide to let that slide))
-Species can go extinct
-Any new players who join in the middle of a game will start as single-celled organisms brought to the planet in a meteorite or something.
