After seeing the theatrical version of the Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, 3 times in the past 2 weeks I think it's time to start up a thread of opinions and impressions of the movie.

[spoiler*]
(Without the asterisk in the first
)!
After we've gotten a few opinions and impressions together I'll post mine relating to what other people thought of the movie.
I look forward to seeing those well written paragraphs on Peter Jackson's latest film!
After watching this movie, I chose to reread the book, and wow, I'm starting to notice a good amount of differences between both of them (where I'm at now in the book is that I've finished reading through the chapter that involved the barrels scene). The movie's take on the scene with the spiders was rather terrifying, despite it having one aspect that differed from the book's spider scene.
But right now...
If I recall correctly, it was two-thirds of the way through the book that Bilbo encounters Smaug, and afterwards Smaug goes flying off towards Lake-town, which may be part of the reason why the movie ended so abruptly (when I was watching this in the movie theater, a majority of the audience began to complain after the movie cut to black). Of course it had to end that way, and that we have to wait one more year for There and Back Again to come out.
However, it's a slight improvement over the first movie. Although The Desolation of Smaug has more differences from the book than An Unexpected Journey, it's more visually exciting, especially once you get past the barrels scene. Once There and Back Again comes out, we won't have to wait any longer, and there may be fewer complaints (although I will feel regret and sympathy in the end).
