I don't know if there has been a thread for this on this forum or not. If so, forgive me, if not... praise me as a god. Obviously I'm a fan of Dresden (although I haven't made it very far in the book series). Feel free to use this thread to discuss anything you'd like about the series but try to warn people of potential spoilers.
Also, what are your opinions on the short lived Dresden Files TV show (currently available on Hulu)? Despite the obvious changes between the books and the show I found the show to be quite enjoyable. I actually prefer the show's versions of several of the characters (Bob, Murphy, and Morgan). Thoughts on this?
For those of you who haven't experienced the awesomeness that is Dresden it can be summed up in 3 words. Magical **** Cheese. Magical (he's a wizard so duh)... **** (written in a standard Private Eye/Noir style)... and Cheese (it's full of humor and what is considered to be generally cheesy writing). I highly suggest you give it a try even if my simplistic description sounds lame.
I read two of the books which were okayish (I don't like fantasy, I'm a scifi person), but the show was pretty bad. In my mind it was just another sign of the death of the Scifi channel.

I can understand that. I've read a lot since I was a kid. I started off with Sci-Fi Novels from the 80s or earlier. After that I kind of bled into Sci-Fi Fantasy (fantastical Sci-Fi where everything is explained pseudo-logically but it's basically magic) and then on to actual Fantasy. I still read both but if I had to pick just one genre as my favorite I'd have to go with Space Opera.

I agree and I'd go so far as to say it shouldn't have been on Sci-Fi in the first place. I don't really like that Sci-Fi has taken up this concept of just doing anything Sci-Fi/Fantasy related. I miss the old days when they didn't produce their own cheesy movies and shows. It was easier for me to tolerate Dresden because I already had low standards for television and I think it aired at a time when there wasn't much good airing anyway.
In my opinion Sci-Fi Channel's ratings would go up if they stuck with the oldies but goodies and stopped trying to produce their own crap. I don't think anyone would mind if Sci-Fi started airing episodes of the Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Star Trek, Quantum Leap, Sliders, Battlestar Galactica, and so on. All of their creature feature movies suck. If you want to put on a shitty creature feature give me some oldschool Godzilla so I could at least feel nostalgic while I watch the tripe.
I love the book series. I've probably read through the entire thing 6 or so times (I'm actually on my third run through it this year, in anticipation of Ghost Story). It's hard to say which one's my favorite...I'm tempted to say Turn Coat for its sad and ominous ending, or Changes for the finale against the Red Court.
It's a fantastic series. I love the blending of a modern world and a fantasy one. Butcher did a great job combining the two.
"“Screw up my life?” He stared a me for a second and then said, deadpan, “I’m a five-foot-three, thirty-seven-year-old, single, Jewish medical examiner who needs to pick up his lederhosen from the dry cleaners so that he can play in a one-man polka band at Oktoberfest tomorrow.” He pushed up his glasses with his forefinger, folded his arms, and said, “Do your worst.”"

I love the Dresden Files, and have read all of the books. Yes the show was cheesey, but I loved the actors they chose to play the parts. I still pictures them as I read the books, even though the show didn't get very far into the series. I see "Dresden" in other shows playing villans, like his role in 24, or White Collar, and think, come on, that's Harry Dresden. Don't make him a bad guy. I agree it really didn't belong on SciFi channel, but wish they had done more with it. Based on the books, it could have been way better done. Maybe they could do a movie....LOL.
