You are all just getting old and have a new adult outlook on current things but fondly remember the stuff from the past cause that's what you grew up with.
Honestly the only "cartons" I watched when I was younger was actually Pokémon and Digimon. I don't actually watch much TV today apart from anime.
Is good to know pokemon is trying to fix pu the things the ruined up on previous seasons. it starts to feel more like an anime.

Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move
You are all just getting old and have a new adult outlook on current things but fondly remember the stuff from the past cause that's what you grew up with.
Or... you know. Maybe people just prefer Stephen Hillenburg era Spongebob episodes as opposed to the newer ones; where an average episode is composed of nothing but slapstick and Spongebob and Patrick making annoying noises, and where the worst of the worst has Plankton trying to commit suicide in a very realistic manner by laying in the middle of the street after Mr. Krabs spent the entire episode terrorizing him in a whale costume.
Kids shows these days honestly aren't bad. I like me my Adventure Times and Steven Universe, I actually prefer them to most of the cartoons I watched when growing up. Gravity Falls also looks pretty promising, only watched two episodes of it so far though. Nickelodeon on the other hand, has gone to the dogs in my opinion.
Kids shows are getting more intelligent. If you choose to watch the most terrible offerings on the boobtube, it's on you. With more home time I've been becoming well versed in the Nick Jr. line up with my son, and most of the shows they offer are rather slick. Definitely more advanced than anything I watched growing up. I'm not much of a television watcher to begin with, but some of the hidden and sly adult humor squirreled away in the shows does not detract from the educational and entertainment value of the show for my son. He can still giggle with delight at fart jokes (ok, honestly I laugh at those ones too), call out the answers at the television to participate, and groan at the obvious boneheaded parts, and I can find something redeeming in watching the shows along with him.
...but then again I had 2 channels and that was if I wrapped the rabbit ears with tinfoil and placed them just right and held them there when I was young, so the bar might not have been very high to begin with.
Nick jr. And Discovery kids are a beautiful exception and some CN shows , i grew up with DK and i felt that all my childhood is there.

Looking at it from a Psychological point of view, it truly makes sense why we believe our childhood shows were better than those out today. Here's why:
When we are younger, we've only seen so much. Everything around us seemed so grand and new, and it had that feeling of something good. Now when we are older, we like to look back at those days and remember ourselves and how great everything was back then. This makes us remember everything in our childhood to be exciting and wonderful. This can obviously be seen in teenagers reactions to tv shows when they were little, compared to the current shows out today.
For example, I'm only 15, and when I was little here are the TV shows that I watched when I was around 5-7: Camp Lazlo, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and Danny Phantom.
Whether we'd like to admit, these shows are about as dumb as the current ones today.
Camp Lazlo. All it is about is animals going to camp getting caught in stupid situations, and miraculously getting out of it at the end of the episode. This show can be compared to Uncle Grandpa without a doubt.
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends is about two friends who will do anything to stay together, and as a result end up making new friends and enemies.
This show can be compared to The Amazing World Of Gumball.
Danny Phantom is a show about a half ghost kid who tries to defend the human world from the evil ghosts from the ghost dimension. Now replace Danny Phantom with Steven Universe, ghost with Gem, and dimension with Planet... and what do you get Steven Universe.
Now I'd love to give more examples, but it's getting late, and if you are going to disagree, give me a good rebuttal statement... in other words, you just can't say "NO!!!" and think you've won the debate. Give at least 3 good reasons and I'll respond to your comment.
I don't think it's a decrease in quality, as much as it is nostalgia, let s take Pokèmon as an example, many people take designs such as honedge, trubbish, vanilite, so on, and so forth, the take these as signs that gamefreak's loseing ideas, or Pokèmon's dyeing, yet don't realise that designs have statistically only gotten better, in gen one you had geodude, which was a rock with arms, graveler, which was a pile of gravel with four arms, zubat, a blue bat, ponyta, a horse with a fire mane, Rapidash, which was a unicorn with a fire mane, dugtrio and magnaton, which where just 3 of there prevolutions, and don't even get me started on seel, and as wildfire said, many of the tv shows back then have the same core concept as many tv shows now.

There were bad shows in the old days too. The thing is they just get forgotten by the well written shows that carved a niche in western entertainment history. People just have a bad habit of looking back in time through rose-tinted glasses and judging the present against a perceived metric as created by the old.
Saying X is better than Y is a rather conservative frame of thought. We also allow that generation to get off on its own sins so we have an excuse to complain about ours.
If, say, Grimer never existed in Gen 1 and was introduced as a new Pokemon for Sun and Moon people would bash it for being Gamefreak running out of ideas. But it was in Gen 1 so it is certainly perfect and acceptable. Something similar can be said if Trubbish was part of Gen 1 - no one would probably mind.
Got to agree, I really like most all of the Gen 5 Pokémon, I think they all look very slick and modern. Maybe it's because I'm young and not Gen 1 masochists nostalgists that act like Grampa Simpson.
I like all 721 (and the Sun and Moon leaked ones) in their own way, even if they are often considered "bland" like the Klink line. (Besides, Klinklang has best name)
On topic: It's probably because the show writers somehow decided that kids were more interested in this kind of humor than the more substantial jokes or intriguing adventures ("substantial" doesn't necessarily mean "mature" but what we see now is far from both). Why they decided it I cannot answer, but it must be successful because the shows are still going. Remember, little kids are the target audience 90% of the time when it comes to these shows.
Most genwunners nitpick worst of the pokemon on newre gens to justify they hate but i will talk about the best designs of every gen.
Gen1: Ninetales,Arcanine,Articuno,Haunter,Charizard,Pikachu and Vaporeon.
Gen2:Cyndaquil,Heracross,Umbreon,Raikou,Suicine,Lugia;Hooh.Tyranitar,Scizor and marill

You know, after thinking about it, people are really over exaderating over here, yes, Nick's gone to the dogs, but if they've done one thing right, it's making 2 of the main characters parents both gay and bi-racial in one of there upcoming shows, which will really help with the bigotry problem in the states right now, Steven universe was awesome, and while people say it has a lot of filler, I disagree, rather, than say Danny phantom, rather than purly focusing on the action, it gives a more "realistic" stance at life by showing off other aspects of the characters lives, such as when pearl got home sick and made a rocket before Steven made her realise that earth IS her home, and I'll finish my point later, but I'm about to visit my grandpa's, so I'll have to finish there

I think it's because the big capitalists that run the channels have realized they can get away with it. They've realized that they can make junk TV and as long as it has some of the aspects kids like then they'll get an audience. They can, instead of actually getting a story line and awesome animation, just grab a couple of no name actors (doesn't even matter if they're bad), slap em' in a live action TV show about something kids love and make a profit.

The simple answer is people are just getting dumber.
