Since a few people by now have already got their free windows 10 upgrade I would like to ask how this works. It will be a while before I upgrade because i would like to purchase a new HDD.
My windows 7 is a few years old and if I'm going to upgrade I would like to do a fresh install on a new hdd. Is there a way to download the windows 10 upgrade then do a fresh windows 10 install or would I have to install windows 7 on my new hdd then upgrade to 10 over the internet?
My 2nd question is that when I do finally upgrade will I get a new key code or will windows 10 be registered to my current windows 7 key code.

There are .ISO files that you can acquire for windows 10. You just burn that file to a DVD or CD-ROM and install it when you get a new Hard Drive.

You can buy Windows 10 to get a clean installation. Otherwise for the free upgrade you will have to install windows 7 first, update it, and then get the windows 10 upgrade. The upgrade either comes through windows update, or you can download the .ISO for the upgrade through a windows 10 downloader from microsoft and install it over windows 7. Either way, you have to have windows 7, 8, or 8.1 first to get the free upgrade, it is frustrating I know.

The ISO is only useful if you have a Windows 10 key as a Windows 8.1/8/7 key will not work with Windows 10 activation.
Whatever Windows 7/8/8.1 key you have right now you have to install the operating system, activate it (very important step right here), then use Microsoft's media tool to download/update to Windows 10.

It's a pain, but that's Microsoft for ya.
I wonder if installing Windows 95 and trying out your DOS applications is the exact same thing... As Installing Windows 10 and trying out your Legacy programs.
