using newegg to find failure rates.....
or any retailer even.
I consider NewEgg reviews plus my own personal experience (4 out of 4 dead in my customer's builds) to be pretty representative. What do you use to find failure rate?
> Does not matter if CLC with Samsung EVO's feature set
> Yes
> No
> Removing included cooler voids warranty, not good for first time builder
> So yes, 780
>CLC = Closed Loop Cooler. They commonly leak. Avoid.
>MSI mobos (from what i hear) arn't the best. Don't quote me on that. But a differant MoBo such as Asus or Gigabyte would be better quality.
>Just saying, it could have been.
>I never said to remove it. 780's are overpriced. $500? Get 2X 7950's/760's/whatever. Beats it by a landslide.

I thought he was using some weird reference to TLC. MSI mobos are fine, they are improving their feature set and quality since their initial poor quality control 2nd gen Intel releases. 780 is not far overpriced. Two 760 will outperform the 780, but at the cost of more noise, more heat, higher power usage, and the inconveniences that come with using SLI such as lack of support in software.

ummm, no, 2x EVGA Superclocked gtx 760 With ACX Cooling, have less heat, colder, and still cheaper then 1 780 = more performance then 1 780, for a lot cheaper (same go's for 2x 7950's)

your build contains a single 1080p monitor. if the game doesn't support SLI, it can be run on a single 7950/760/R9Xequivelent. If it can't, it supports SLI.

After looking into the X Star monitor's reviews some more, I find it too unreliable. Instead, I'm looking for a 1080p monitor under $250 that would be much less likely to have dead pixels or dark regions. It doesn't need to be bright or have built-in speakers. This one seems promising, but recommendations are appreciated.
And since I'm downgrading to 1080p, do I still need the R9 290 or can I go with something less powerful and cheaper?
Reviews are almost always a horrible representation of quality.
Well, in the case that the X-Star gets sold out or jumps up significantly in price, what other monitor should I get? I slightly overestimated my original budget and would like to keep the monitor's cost under $250. I know I can't get a 1440p monitor for that price.
I remember building my first computer...
About 1 - 1/2 years ago I built (or re-built) my first computer. I was getting my dads 20 year old STAK PC (Unknown PC company that shutdown in the 90's) from the garage and plugged it in. I got a HDD error message that prevented it from Booting (or re-installing MS-DOS). After bringing the ICC (another unknown PC company) inside I began swapping parts until I got something to work. Now I have MS-DOS 6.22 installed and can run all the fun games like DOOM or Comanche Maximum Overkill.
Specs:
133MHZ Unknown CPU
48MB unknown RAM
1MB Trident Chipset Video card
356MB Master HDD
1111MB Slave HDD

Back again, and I have a question about installing the Arctic Accelero on the R9 290. According to this article, doing such a thing will void the warranty and is permanent. If this is true, then can someone recommend the next best GPU that doesn't require me to fiddle around with it? I'm just not a risk taker.
Just got the PSU in the mail. I don't have all of my components yet (won't be for a while), so should I test it by getting a multimeter or a PSU tester?

Just a developer :-)

At least 86% of what I say is always correct.
... good for you? Why did you post that here...

Also, here's an updated list, if anyone needs it or is curious.
Thank you.
Would something like this suffice?
You don't need either. Look up how to turn on a PSU without a PC.
