1. Unibody aluminum chassis are expensive.
2. Thinness is expensive.
3. American technical support and manufacturing are expensive.
Apple has the highest margins in the industry. Sure. That is not a reason to join the "X is overpriced because you can get Y for cheaper" conga. That attitude is one of the reasons why most laptops are cheaply-built, generic Compal-Foxconn-and-Quanta junk.
(Why am I wasting my time here?)
They still use Foxconn, they're not leaving them, they're too cheap to not use them
Unibody aluminum because why? cause all it does is make a nice heatsink for your lap when the laptop gets too hot so it can transfer it into your legs easier
thinness also costs cooling potential, thus the average 80°C idle
Macbooks are made in China, sorry, you're thinking of the soon to fail mac pro

Not gonna argue with the first 2 points, but Apple manufactures stuff in China.

Apple uses as much or more foreign outsourcing than most other hardware manufacturers, so I'm not sure what you're getting at here.
If you mean paying people 300k dollars a year to sit in a plush chair and design ridiculous "super sleek apple products" then yeah, but that's not any different from any other company. Most companies use western designers and buy the hidden stuff from eastern markets.

So basically you're failing to realize that apple uses the same exact hardware(the cheaper hardware) that is available to any other hardware manufacturer, and are thinking it is somehow superior just because it has the name "Apple" on it.
Yeah, sorry, wrong. You do realize that Apple buys most of their stuff from Foxconn right?

Because you don't have anything better to do.
I'm not so much defending Apple as claiming that the "Y is better than X because Y is cheaper and has more performance" argument is often nonsense and leads manufacturers to think that we want stagnation and cheaply-built laptops.
Apple does outsource. I did not say that it does not. In fact, it has little bearing on what I posted. I typed that "American technical support and manufacturing are expensive." I did not say what Apple manufactures in America, how much Apple manufactures in America, or what Apple will manufacture in America. Apparently, it has moved or will move manufacturing of some (i.e. not all) Macbooks to the U.S.
Yes, Apple buys components from Foxconn. Can you point out where I claimed that it does not?
That is precisely what I am arguing: the word "Apple" confers superiority. What exegesis of my post did you carry out to reach that conclusion?
A personal comment. How droll. At least I know that you have nothing better to do.

"That attitude is one of the reasons why most laptops are cheaply-built, generic Compal-Foxconn-and-Quanta junk." implies that.
All you basically did to defend yourself was say there was no implications in your post. You aren't providing any actual reasons.
Apple does have some of the highest margins because they built a culture, not a product. It's rather brilliant business strategy that is ridiculously hard to pull off. So hard, it took Steve Jobs. He was absolutely brilliant. However, the only upside to buying any Apple product is to run their OS, which really isn't an upside.
Well Mac OS X is a decent OS, not my cup of tea though.
Only reason I say it's hardly an upside is that there are alternatives you can use on Windows for most of the legitimate reasons to buy a Mac. But yes, OSX is nice.

As I noted, the defense of Apple is tangential, worth a mention because Apple is doing a few things that most other vendors are too occupied with cost-cutting to do, and the point is about the "price-performance at all costs and bashing any product that is not good for that" mindset I see here.
As I noted, the defense of Apple is a distraction at most, and the point is about the "price-performance at all costs and bashing any product that is not good for that" mindset I see here.
Mind, I agree with you. No one takes into account anything other than that. It's as if it's a be-all-end-all for everyone.
I'm gonna tell you this right off the bat. For however much that macbook costs (looking at the Apple site I would estimate around $1100), you can build a WAY better laptop. Going off that $1100 figure:
I not asking if there are better options, im asking about this specific computer! I just asked for a fos range and the performance gawd
then why ask?
if your going to buy something regardless, why ask how it will do?

I don't mind people defending macs because of OSX, or them just really liking the look or feel or whatever.
But I rarely see them do that, often they ty and say the hardware is better and that Windows running PC's are worse or something, and to me that just shows ignorance.
Well I once put windows 7 (and later windows 10) on my macbook air and oh my lord, because you have to download so many drivers and windows stuff, you only get like 1GB of space left for yourself. in my computer, the windows files took 112 GB and all I got was 1 GB for use. And obviously, you need storage to make things run smoothly
