The amount of stupid in this post blows my mind.. Just because they both have 512 MB doesn't mean they're the same cards. Like say, a 7870 could come with 2 GB VRAM while a 7970 could also come with 2 GB VRAM. THEY ARE VERY DIFFERENT.
Pl0x don't bump these old of posts...
Why doesn't this forum have a 1 year auto delete q.q
i don't think you can get a 7970 with only 2GB Vram. unless you took one and removed some modals...
And this forum has some horrid coding in it. the formatting bug that kills me, old threads, no spam protection... its painful.

EH! I was trying to prove a point but FINE, a 7970 with 3 gb VRAM and a 7950 with 3 GB VRAM, the difference is the card not the amount of VRAM, though more is useful when using more monitors.

If somebody suggests a Mac, Alienware, IBuyPower, CyberPowerPC, HP, Dell, ect. Wait for someone who knows what they're doing.
the motherboard is old so i would assume the Pci-e is gen 1. and as most require gen 2 X16 well, your going to be better off buying a pci card...

There's a method that allows you to run any PCI-E 16x card at reduced performance(Atleast better than a 8400 GS), you can ask your parents cut/melt the notch at the end of the PCI-E 1x slot so you can fit in a 16x card
But notice that this is a risky mod that could destroy your motherboard (and thus your entire computer) if you're not careful. I'd recommend you to do this only if you and your parents don't mind losing/replacing your computer.

o wow.... I wonder what all the extra pins on a graphics card is used for then..... Anyways That is actually a awesome idea. Im assuming if you can do that its backwards compatible so if I get a soundcard or somthing for a x1 i can put it in a x16 slot .
Btw why are people postin on a like 1+ year old thread?
