Hello good people of this forum! I'm at my wits end, and I'm wondering if anyone could help me with a problem a friend of mine is facing in connecting to my server. The problem, you see, is simple: my friend cannot connect to my server. But we've tried darn near everything I can think of to resolve it, and we still cannot get her connected. There's a lot we tried, so I'm just going to sort of list off the stuff we've tried, and the relevant information:
The server is my own, and it's been operating continuously for nearly seven years now. I say this to signal that the issue isn't port forwarding, or a private IP. The server in fact, uses a domain name, and this issue appears to be isolated only to this one particular person. Everyone else who is a member of the server can connect just fine, inside of my network, or out.
This server also hosts a website. This is relevant, because my friend is also unable to connect to this website on her computer. In spite of this however, she can connect on her phone, even when her cellular data is disabled.
We've tried running pings and traceroutes from both her computer and her gateway. On her computer, all communication with my server fails, and pings report "Destination port unreachable." However, on her gateway, the pings and traceroutes succeed. On her computer, the traceroute seems to make it to her gateway, but it doesn't leave the gateway, failing on the second hop.
Further, she of course, has an internet connection. She can access Google without problems, or any other site. She can even ping other sites on this computer....just not mine. Everyone else can ping my server without issue...but not her.
We've tried resetting her network on Windows, but to no avail. We've tried disabling her firewall on her computer temporarily, just as a test: no dice. We have even tried temporarily placing her computer into her gateway's DMZ: nothing. Her DNS even resolves the domain name to the correct IP address, but she cannot access the server at all with either the domain, or the straight public address.
I've worked around servers for a good 8 years of my life. I run my own home network, I've run this server for this long, and I've even written my own programs. Plenty of programs, in fact. And maybe I've overlooked something very simple. Maybe I've just not had enough coffee, but I cannot for the life of me think of anything that could be stopping her from seeing my server. So I'm asking if anyone has any idea at all why this could be happening.
