Hello everyone. So about a year ago I bought an entry level gaming pc off of amazon for $480. It was the best deal for the little money I had then. Now, I'm getting a little greedy, or in other words, its time for an upgrade. It would be cheaper for me to spend $300 on a new gpu than look into a new system all together. My pc's case has room for what looks like 7 slots for a gpu and the like. I'll post my specs below.
Processor: AMD FX 8300 Quad Core Processor
RAM: 8.00 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 610
Motherboard: MSI 760GM-P34 (FX)
NOTE: So I have very little knowledge with computers when it comes to parts and compatibility. Back in February I bought an AMD 8350 fx cpu and tried to install it. I did everything correctly, but the cpu appeared to be incompatible. My mother board over heated and I had to replace my ram.
So what I'm asking here is for someone with some insight to point me which direction to go. I currently get 30-90 fps when playing minecraft (for example) with a x64 resource pack and optifine. I want to start taking the steps to increase my performance.
If it's possible to upgrade my pc, where should I start? GPU? Motherboard? Money isn't something I have a lot of, so I can't buy a few different things all at once. If upgrading individual parts is a good idea, then what product should I buy?
If I should devote some more money to a new pc all together, please let me know below. Thanks for any advice and help you can offer!
On one hand, your CPU is pretty slow and you can't really upgrade it (your motherboard isn't compatible).
So you could spend around $250 on an i5 + good motherboard. But then you're stuck with a crappy GPU (your GPU is the biggest problem here).
Personally, I would get a decent GPU + a new PSU, and then save up money for a new motherboard + Intel i5 CPU. Your CPU is pretty slow but a new GPU will still help a lot.
Something like a R9 380 or GTX 960 (or a GTX 950 and overclock it)
According to the classic PSU Tier list, the SuperNova B1 is a Tier 3 PSU, while the XFX I posted is a Tier 1 PSU. Which means it's generally higher quality, uses better caps, and will be more reliable under load.
You don't really need more than 550 watts unless you're running dual GPUs

Alright thanks. I'll look into that and a evga gtx 960

Eh. Depends on how much money you want to spend.

It's a Turbolink ATX-TL500W-BK.
I'm looking at a EVGA SuperNOVA 750 B1 80+ It's got 750w. Would this be a smart move?

Why would this be a better buy than the one I was looking at? I'm not being cynic I'm just curious.
Oh duh. xD
