When you bring up minecraft, there will be a launcher that comes up.
on this launcher click the edit profile button,
under where it says "java settings (advanced)"
click the box that says "JVM Arguments" type this:
-Xmx800M -Xmn128M
change the profile name, to what you prefer (default enhanced) as an example.
then click save profile.
this will run minecraft with 800megabytes of RAM.
you can allocate more RAM such as this. like if you run minecraft with forge and mods, then more RAM will allow you to run more mods.
the more you put in the game the more RAM you need!
-Xmx1G -Xmn128M
-Xmx2G -Xmn 128M
second thing you can do~!
this will increase the fps :).
go to options in game, click video settings, you will see "Use VBO's": after the : make sure that says yes. this will increase your fps.
if you would like to further your fps journey and increase it more there is a mod called optifine which can be ran with some forge versions, other than that it can also be installed as a profile. each game version release has its own version of optifine and forge. i recommend minecraft 1.8 as it is smooth and less jagged than 1.7.10 in many aspects such as walking around, view bobbing and etc. also in 1.8 you can place and destroy blocks at a further distance.
The specs that you have provided look alright but you need a graphics card. should be able to play the game without any problem at all then.
i have 2gb of ram and 500MB harddrive and i get the game to run smooth and nice. i have a quad core though.... which really wouldn't make much of a difference. more cores allow you to set more affinities. but if you don't use affinities then thats alright. (i don't use affinities)
you do need a graphics card though because integrated graphics totally suck.
i have a radeon pro graphics card. it is AMD and really good. when you get it and install it, it gives you a "catalyst control center" which allows you to adjust your graphics and change graphics card settings by clickin the icon on the bottom of your screen.
also before you buy the computer you need to know since it is integrated graphics if you can actually put a graphics card in the computer. if you can't put a graphics card in it then i suggest not buying the computer and buying one that can be fitted with a propper graphics card.
im saying this because some integrated graphics computers will not allow for a graphics card installation.
you should be able to find a good one for around 80 bucks if you are looking at the AMD radeon series wallmart has one for 86 bucks right here
also if it is a windows computer you can increase your page filing size which will also increase your computers overall and perfomance and speed by doing the following:
click start
right click computer
click properties
click advanced system settings
click the tab named "advanced" if you are not already on it.
where it says "performance" click "settings"
in the window that comes up click the tab named "advanced"
where it says "vitual memory" click "change"
down at the bottom of this page it will say "Recommended" above "Currently Allocated"
click the circle to where it is filled next to "custom size"
where is says "Initial Size" type in the number that is next to "Recommended"
where it says "maximum size" type in what you typed in initial size +1800-2000
click "apply"
it will say for the changes to apply you need to restart click "yes" to restart.
example:
(since what is recommended for me is 3067)
(x) custom size:
Initial Size (MB): 3067
Maximum Size (MB): 4800
this will increase all performances of the computer involving things like opening and closing windows, how fast start up is, how good games run, and etc.
the above may seem complicated but its really not something hard to do. and it is well worth it.
I highly suggest you don't buy pre-built computers. They're rip-offs, a 400$ computer can outperform a 600$ pre-built pc. With some knowledge it shouldn't be very hard. I've always built all my previous computers myself and always recommend everyone else do to. This way not only can you save money but also have an idea of what you're getting. A 400$ pc should play Minecraft at a decent 60 fps. Depending on where you live, you can always purchase stuff online (if you're old enough), go over to pc part picker and it should help you choose compatible&decent components for your computer, that is if you do build a pc yourself. People exaggerate on how difficult it is to build a pc yourself, i have been doing it for the past 6 years and it's not that hard. But even so if you do decide to get a pre-built computer, don't get a pc which includes a integrated GPU, get a dedicated GPU.
There should be a component shop in your local area, if not, you can always purchase your components online.

I live in Maine, so when I wanted to build my computer I had to do it online since there are no decent component shops in the state. Pretty soon I realized the computer I wanted would be around $1,600 from all the best online deals. However, I actually made the 4 hour trip down to MicroCenter in Boston and got it for $1,250. Always always check the big component shops in real life before buying, you can often check prices online but still have to buy in-store. Totally worth it.
I recently got the ASUS STRIX r7370 for my relative, and i first went down to my local component store and it was for 200$, a day later i searched online and got it for 165$ (no sale). My local component shop is a rip off.
I highly suggest you don't buy pre-built computers. They're rip-offs, a 400$ computer can outperform a 600$ pre-built pc.
Pre-built systems at that price range are slightly better. They have decent CPUs and RAM, and include the OS. All you really need is a decent PSU and a cheap graphics card and you have yourself a gaming machine. Id love to see you come up with a comparable system that includes the OS for $400.
I used a Dell Optiplex 3020 and tossed in a GT740 for under $600 and I can play most anything I want outside of top-end games. Minecraft, Starbound, Starmade, Firefall, Rebel Gallaxy, etc.

All you really need is a decent PSU and a cheap graphics card and you have yourself a gaming machine
I doubt i can take you seriously after what you just said. Please define what you consider cheap. The CPU is the brain of your computer, the GPU is the heart. Both are at equal priority when building/buying a PC. A weak GPU and a better CPU can cause bottleneck which you really don't want, it's a waste of potential. Besides just because one component is outstanding doesn't make your computer a convincing gaming machine.
i3 4160 3.6 ghz $124.99
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2X4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz $46.99
GTX 750TI/ AMD R7260x $129/@130
PSU ELITE 460 COOLERMASTER $30
H81M-DS2 GIGABYTE MOBO(LGA1150 SLOT(Compatible with the provided CPU) $29.99
Total Cost: $362
+$99 Windows 10
=$461
That system is not just comparable, it can run BF4 with 50-55 FPS. With a additional $61 bucks he can play a few high-end games with impressive visuals which he cannot do on the system he provided. I'd be surprised he even gets 40FPS on that system. Not to forget the CPU i've provided also includes a integrated INTEL HD 4400 in case you don't want the GPU. And if you don't want the GPU we can deduct the $130 and come to the final price of $331. This system is still better than the one he provided.
A gaming machine presented to you for $461 which is on par or even slightly better than the XB1.
EDIT: Also he way decide to play other stuff too. And this set up is great.
Operating system?
And as a personal preference, I only buy from reputable sellers with a good track record for customer service in the event that a part is DOA, because nothing would put a hamper on the joy of a new computer like having to sit and wait for customer service to respond. The sellers you listed, I don't know. Are they primarily EU based? I primaraly buy everything from Newegg.

Hard drive? Case? You are missing a few essentials, and they would put you in line with the price I said, under $600, which also includes the option of cutting out the graphics card, like you seem so proud to tout. And all this is assuming they only need the tower, not a whole setup.
I know plenty about computers. I build them and work with them every day. I understand the importance of the CPU and GPU. My point was, pre-built systems typically have decent base hardware, and getting a PSU and a cheap graphics card can make the machine more than capable and require little work because they are... pre-built.
And I was never comparing a system's specs to the xbox, so I don't know why you tossed that in there.
A quick question. Is that a laptop or desktop? Cos if it's a desktop, then burn the thing. (ok, maybe not that but get a good graphics card) If it's a laptop, then I would recommend an OS X, I can run Minecraft at near full settings (barring render distance, which is set to 12) on a MacBook Pro.

You claimed pre-built PC's are better than custom built PC's.
Also the adding the charges of the case and a 1TB WD HDD it would make a decent $567. So if you own a pc which can't run "top-end" games and have spent more than 500 dollars on it, i have to say that it's a waste of money. I presented to you a PC worth $567(i can keep the price to a minimum $522 if you are willing to bare the sight of a not-so impressive case) Just to add it out there, the PC the OP posted had 4 Gigs of ram while the Build i presented has a 2x4GB ram(8Gigs). If i deduct 4gb of ram i can get a cost of $543 whereas if i deduct the price of the 4Gig Ram stick from the $522 i'd get a splendid price of $499.99. Which cannot only run minecraft, it can run GTA V at decent visuals and decent framerates.
And the OP asked for a recommendation for something within $500. So, not only are custom builds more cheap, they're better too. My brother bought a pre-built PC for $1700, I own a custom built PC which out performs his and only cost me $800, to this day he won't admit the fact it sucks for it's budget because... well biased. I was using the XBOX ONE platform as a benchmark.

Knew I'd forgotten something XD
Anyway, you can make that build for £270ish if you go with a full tower and smaller HHD instead. And I had found a reputable company selling windows 7 keys for £20. Can't remember where tho.
Also, I'm not saying all those companies are reputable as I don't know but a quick internet search would tell you.

But that build still leaves you with spending £30 more on the CPU than needed and an outdated Graphics Card when you can get the R7 360 for the same price.

PRICE MIGHT CHANGE
This build is if you don't mind running minecraft at mid-high settings.

My PC specs :
Cpu: intel core i5 overclocked(waiting for the i7 to arrive)
Gpu: GTX 970 SLI config (saving for the Titan SLI config)
MoBo: Asus Ranger
HDD: 3 2TB
SSD: 120 GB
Ram: 32 gb 8x8x8x8
Quality: 720HD, 1080HD, 1440p, 4k
Runs Minecraft 500-650 FPS superflat world normal world 200-230 FPS all at high settings
150-190 FPS at ultra settings
But that build still leaves you with spending £30 more on the CPU than needed and an outdated Graphics Card when you can get the R7 360 for the same price.
