Hello, I am looking to update my $500 PC build so that I may be able to play SSP and SMP Modded Minecraft without lag spikes. I have done some research, but I would like to hear from you guys what I should upgrade on it. Here is the current build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/IceColdPlasma/saved/NzWKHx
I am mainly wanting to upgrade the CPU and the Video Card -- the latter of which only has a higher clock speed than the original so if you guys have anything better in mind, please don't hesitate to tell me -- or even both. But the research that I did gave me second thoughts about which one I should upgrade. Here is the CPU I had in mind: www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113326 and here is the Video Card: https://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-02gp42754kr
I would really like some advice from you guys, since some of you know more about this than I do. Again, if you have any ideas on what I should do (For example, if you think I should upgrade something else, or if you have a better AND cheaper part I should check out), then please tell me. Also, please let me know if this post should be moved to another topic. This is the first thread I have ever made, and this was the only topic that made sense for me to put it.
OT: And your downgrading your cpu,and the gpu is the same, and upgrade that PSU before anything
How much are you willing to spend? 300$? 500?
I know the 2nd CPU has 4 cores vs 6, but it has a greater speed than the 1st one, which is why I picked it out.
The difference I saw in the two GPUs is the 2nd one had a greater clock speed, but that was about it.
What do you have in mind for a new Power Supply? I don't have the first clue about upgrading one of those, and I only found the current one from a friend.
I paid about $500 for the first build, $80-100 each for the parts in question, so that's how much I would like to spend now. But I can go for at the most $150 each.

A 270X isn't really a worthwhile upgrade in my opinion.
Modded MC relies on CPU performance, so the only real way to get better performance is to either OC your current CPU (with a new mobo and cooler) or get an i3 + new mobo.
Also yeah get a new PSU for sure, XFX 550 watt is my recommendation

I'm going to assume that Mobo means Motherboard. So you're telling me that I should get a new motherboard, a new CPU, AND a cooler? Hmm... I don't think all of that would be within my budget. If you can find me some good parts for around, below, or slightly above the same price as the current one, then I can certainly take a look. Thank you.

I would get an i3 ($110), a cheap decent motherboard ($40) and a better PSU ($55)
Thank you. The Power Supply is going on my list, but can you explain how the CPU is better than the one that I have? It only has two cores vs six, and only a Megahertz more in speed. Also, the two motherboards don't seem to be much different. Please explain.
Each of those 2 cores is MUCH MUCH faster than the cores in your 6 core, and they are hyperthreaded so it functions like a virtual quad core processor. So in just about everything it will do tasks faster.
I wouldn't be going from an FX-6300 to an i3-4160 personally. Would seem a silly thing to do as you'd essentially be spending a fairly significant amount of money on both a new motherboard and CPU for only a slight gain in single threaded performance, while losing the extra performance in threaded tasks the 6300 has.
Wait for Broadwell and Skylake (or ZEN), then upgrade to either Haswell when the prices drop, or Broadwell/Skylake if you have more money by then.
In the meantime, new PSU and graphics card. Possibly also a secondhand 990FX motherboard (not worth buying new, see if you can find a buy/sell on some tech forums) and a CPU cooler to OC the 6300.

Okay, PSU, Graphics Card, CPU Cooler, and a 990FX Motherboard. Gotcha. Thanks!
Don't get the new motherboard, it won't change performance at all, cost you $50-$90 used at best, and you'll need a new cooler to overclock anyways, so that's more money, plus getting a stable worthwhile overclock is kinda a pain and takes time, and just isn't something everyone should be doing.
Just get the psu and graphics card. That's all that will visibly change performance and prevent your PC from going up in flames.

Okay, I'll see about getting some thermal compound and some fans as well.
That's not going to be useful without a new motherboard as well, considering your current one won't OC at all.
Anyways a GPU upgrade won't help modded MC performance, since most mods are CPU based anyways
Do I really HAVE to get a new motherboard? Why can't I just use the one I already have? That other guy said that it wouldn't make a difference if I got a motherboard.

Thank you guys - IceColdPlasma
Try upgrading your RAM..........that's what I need to do
My Memory Card is 8GB. I think that is kinda overkill when playing Minecraft. Thank you for the comment though! ^,^
He has 8GB already,no need for 12GB or 16GB

Honestly, I'd get a new PSU, probably an XFX.
Then keep that CPU and get a 270x.

Okay, I shall keep that in mind. Thank you! ^.^
Yeah new PSU is the only thing you should be looking at right now. Any quality 450-650w will do.
