I have a chance to pick this used model up for $400/OBO. Will it play Minecraft? What kind of FPS can I anticipate? I think retail was $1,100 in 2011. My son is playing on an HP G62 Series with a Mobility Radeon HD 4250. He keeps saying dad I'm getting lag. I don't want to break the bank so is this a good deal? Can I get at least 2 years out of it?
No. Don't buy that computer. It's not even worth 400$ Building a PC is best laptops & alienware aren't even that good i'd stick with building a Pc for that price.

And what if he needs a laptop?
@OP if it's new, I don't think it's terrible. It is old though.. Sorry I'm not much help, I don't do much with laptops. Haha.

Actually looking at benchmarks you can probably run the game at high settings over 60 fps. It's a pretty great deal for if he will drop down to $300-$350, but $400 is alright
Well it got a yellow check mark at high settings so I assume at medium settings this would work. I don't think he's playing on high settings right now anyway.
This guy looks like he's moving around pretty good with no lag.

That's what I was thinking AR. Interestingly enough I bought an old Alienware 51 desktop four years ago from Craigslist for $250. Ran Minecraft great for about two years and then after more and more MC updates it didn't run as well but I got two years out of it.

Well you're going to have to spend like 900$
For MC? Not even close. A Y40 will run it fine. Actually, an Intel core i# with Intel 4400 integrated graphics will work fine.
For other games? Maybe to run some new ones.

It's pretty alright for the price, but Im not sure it will last 2 years.
It will probably get 60 fps medium high settings

Thanks AOPC but building a pc is not an option.
Okay so medium settings. I going to offer $300 if I can get by for a year that will work.
He's 10 so I don't think he has $900 bucks. I'd go half with him so the budget is between $300-$400.

When you buy your laptop make sure to download the mod optifine it boosts your fps real high.
