Well, today's my birthday.
I'm allowed up to a $1000 NZD (not USD, so keep that in mind) for a new PC.
Trouble is... I have no idea what to buy. I'm not going to buy an already built computer, because the last time I did that I ended up spending $500 NZD for a bad computer (in fact, I'm using it as I type). I want to make my own computer, but so far the whole deal's confusing as hell.
I don't know what parts to pick. While my friends tried to help by giving me some lists of parts for a new PC, it's usually missing stuff like RAM or OSs, not to mention how they often went over my budget. Guides are odd to read, videos are confusing to understand... this is why I'm turning to MCF.
Here's what I want:
-I want to build a gaming PC, enough to play graphic-intensive games with little to no lag. (Although I'm getting the feeling I'm gonna need more than a thousand NZD... in that case; most games (graphic intensive or not) with little to no lag. Stuff like TF2, CS:GO, AoE2 (yeah, my computer struggles to run THAT), etc.)
-I only need one monitor, as three would get confusing and heavy to lift.
-I don't need speakers, keyboard, mouse or even a microphone - I have all of them, and so far they've served me better than my computer. (With the exception of my randomly-dying wireless keyboard and mouse.)
-OS may or may not be included, although I prefer it to be included. (I'm only saying this because it adds a bulk of more money to spend.) If this is the case, I'm going for Windows 8. Not Linux or other free OSs, because not all games of mine can run on them.
-Fan(s); I don't want (too much, overwhelming) dust building up, but at the same time I don't want my computer to deafen my ears/go over the top of my speakers.
-1TB hard-drive. (Any will do, as long as it's not considered "crappy.")
-Maximum of 8GB of RAM. (Ditto with the 1TB hard-drive.)
-My budget is strict, although I may be able to stretch over it slightly. (Maximum of $50 NZD - $1000 NZD is my preferred budget.)
-I know very little about (over)clocking, so if you mention it, you're probably gonna have to explain it to me.
For the sake of this thread, please don't get into flame wars or intense debates; take it elsewhere.
I have very little ideas on computers and such, so please be kind if I'm missing something.
Right, I got everything I need so far. However, I just want to ask for opinions on this current build:
The one Shadowwolf recommended is better than the one in your op. If you were to use a Linux distro, Ubuntu, Linux mint, and Zorin 8 are great starter distros coming from windows. You could try a hackintosh.

OP shouldn't try a hackintosh, specially when there's no point, no need, and the prices are that high.
However, @OP, if you need cheap (Completely legal) OS, you can try http://reddit.com/r/softwareswap and buy windows for ~$20. although it is a little risky (just like Ebay), but saving ~$60+ is always nice. Also, most games are not yet Linux compatible, so yeah...

Proud member of the MCF AWA war of '13! if someone suggests Alienware or Cyberpower, wait for a custom-built list from someone who knows their stuff. Meh Rig

How would it compare to my build in terms of stuff like... say, frame rate performance in mid-tier FP(S) games like Minecraft, TF2 and CS:GO?
(As you may notice, my OS is missing. I'm going to try finding a free one like Linux.)
