I know this is a old topic but geez all the hate for the Razerblade and love for custom-made laptops...The quality of the newest Razer Blade 2014 (which has yet to be released) does not "suck" as a lot of you are saying. It's over priced and you can get something stronger at a much lower price. But the OP wants a light computer. There is nothing wrong with people who want lighter gaming computers. The most common response I see of people against light computers for gaming has to do with automatically thinking the OP can't lift a 10 lb+ laptop around and how they are weak. Stop being so childish. People are not built the same. If you walk around with a backpack with a 10lb laptop + several books ~8-12+ hours a day it takes a toll on your body whether it's posture, bones, muscle, etc.
If money isn't a problem and you only had two choices of a MBP w/ Retina 13" or a Razer Blade 2014, I would choose the Razer Blade. My reasoning? Razer blade wins within the screen and gpu category clearly. Windows is a better OS for gaming and running bootcamp on a macbook won't be the same as a normal windows install. The Razer Blade 2014 is more expensive but you shouldn't be comparing it to the 13" Retina as they are not in the same performance class. A Retina 15" would be more close because of the discrete GPU. The current 15" Retina MBP costs more than the newer unreleased Razer Blade yet is weaker.
Razer Blade 2014
3200 x 1800 IGZO Display 10-Point Touch Screen
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 870M 3GB DDR5
Intel i7 4702HQ
8GB DDRL 1600MHz 1.35v
150W power adapter
M.2 SSD of your choice in capacity
The 2013 version or previous version of the 14" Razerblade had an extra slot for another msata SSD drive. The largest mSATA ssd right now is 1TB by Samsung. So the 2013 version could have 2TB of SSD and even RAID 0 them too. Little is known if the 2014 version will offer an extra m.2 slot or a msata at all. No one will know until after April 16th.
You will definitely have problems with heat because of the compact nature of the laptop. But any gaming laptop will have some problem with heat although some will be worse than others. I would rather have a desktop gaming rig than go out and buy some gaming laptop that is 1"+ thick like the Asus G-series or Alienware laptops. I do have a gaming desktop so a light but gaming capable laptop would be the best choice. If web browsing was the only use a tablet or a smart phone is all you need (which you probably have).
Your looking for something to game on, then you need to eliminate apple computers from the list completely. They won't have the same kind of compatibility in games compared to windows computers. If thin laptops are still something you are thinking of MSI has their GS 70 (17") and GS 60 (15.6") line. Lenovo will have their Y50/Y40 line. Gigabyte has their P-Series and Aorus laptops too.
The main issue with thin gaming laptops will be heat (causes performance issues) and sound (due to fans and overheating.) Think carefully. I have a 7lb+ gaming laptop. It's not heavy at all just carrying it but carrying it in a messenger bag or a backpack with lots of books are uncomfortable and makes the back big even if it's not heavy. A quick fix would be carrying the books in your arms or leaving the unnecessary ones in your car or room.
Do find it funny that you advertise the screen as one of the major selling points when there isn't a snowball's chance in hell of that GPU driving it effectively.

Could handle casual games pretty well and it probably is a gorgeous screen, but an 860m and a standard 1080p screen would do a much better job (like the sager OP was looking at).

I know this chat-thing- thread, whatever it is is kinda old...
For doing things other than playing games so basically, the screen would make word documents, web pages all look crisper.
Another option, what about a macbook with an eGPU? Good or bad idea?
rMBP 13" can run bf4 on low-med at 1400x900 using iris graphics (according to a couple YouTube videos)
I really wasn't shopping for a "desktop replacement", as I already have a desktop that I feel does not need to be updated.
I just picked out two laptops that I will be able to play a few games in my spare time with. It's not like I am going to be playing Games like BF4 as the battery life is probably horrible on both while under stress.
The Razer blade 14 (2013) actually appeals to be more with its much lower price tag ($1500 new (2013) on amazon vs, $2400 new (2014))
About double the battery life 7:30 hours vs 4:00 hours. Less heat.
But then there is the 1600x900 screen (it's really the viewing angles due to the TN panel that bothers me instead of the res.)

Btw just to throw this in,
I own the midrange model of the Retina MacBook Pro 13", and while I love it, it's not that good for gaming. I bought it because I prefer the portablity and battery life of it, I love OS X, and I knew I wouldn't game very much.
In terms of gaming, the macbook isn't exactly great. For example, I got Call of Duty Black ops 2, which isn't a very demanding game, and i get about 40 Fps on Medium settings at 1440*900.
Personally if portablity isn't super important I would get the Sager.

For the same price as MacBook Pro retina 13 256 gb I could get the razer blade 256 gb...
I also like OSX better than windows. Maybe they will put dedicated graphics in the next 13 inch MacBook Pro.. Even a nvidia gt 840M or gt 830M would be better than intel iris... Not going to get my hopes up as that's probably unlikely.
I could always use an external gpu like a gtx 750.. It's not movable though... And that's why I have a desktop...
I might just get the razer or sager.. See if the battery is acceptable and performance is good. If not, I might get a MacBook Pro retina 13" instead.

Stop deciding between Razer Blade and Macbook. You could either get a mobile powerhouse or a slow stovetop that you can cook your eggs on.
If you're ever going to get a laptop for gaming, the only two companies you should even be considering is Lenovo and Sager.

First of all, there's a 0.00000001% chance the 13 in Macbook will ever get a dedicated GPU. With the small size and low ish price, I highly doubt it.
Second, if you like OSX, and you don't care that much about gaming performance, get the macbook.
If you care about gaming, get a Sager or a Lenovo
Tbh, I would avoid the razor blade. Crappy screen, overheating, mediocre performance.

The Lenovo has dual 750s, but do most games support SLI?
What about the gigabyte p34g v2:
GTX 860M (performance similar to 680M)
1080p screen
I7
For about $1300. It's kind of slim, slim enough that I would consider it acceptable.

I really want something slim that is practical. A 17 inch laptop isn't really practical imo.
I would prefer 13-14 inch range.
I actually think the gigabyte p34g v2 looks like a perfect fit for me. Slim-ish, i7, GTX 860M, 1080P.
Same specs as the sager, just slimmed down a bit, not as thin as razer, but not as thick as sager.

The macbook has Iris graphics from what I looked up. Which might not be good for "demanding" games.
The Razer is obviously overpriced. $2200 isn't even worth the buy. Even when it's a laptop.
I'd skip both.

In my opinion, I think the Razer blade is overpriced, and the build quality is mediocre. I have the MBP Late 2013, and I have been using it for some casual gaming such as CS: GO, LoL, and TF2, the computer heats up to a reasonable temperature, and doesn't overheat. If you are causal gaming here and there, I would recommend MBP for the price (noted that you are using your desktop for heavy gaming). Or get a Asus mid-end laptop for the cheaper price, but it doesn't the 'premium' Apple has, and OS X. If your planning to go full on laptop gaming, I would say the Alienware 14/17 or even 18, since Alienware actually pays attention to quality and heat management ( compared the Razer blade), and that Alienware is actually a gaming hardware company, unlike Razer which is a company started up as a gaming peripheral company.
Furthermore, the MBP or Asus for portability, build quality, and light gaming or Alienware for a full on gaming laptop. I would only go to Razer for peripherals, or Logitech.
So I should get a sager basically? Ok, the one with the 860m right? I will check some reviews.
