I have Mediacom (since May), and I'm extremely happy with them. 20/2 (actually 28/2.8) for half the price of Frontier's shitty 7.1/0.7 (actually 6.5/0.7). I had some issues at first, but a tech came out and fixed the problem, and I haven't had any issues since then.
could be different where you are, but i doubt they give a **** about small town iowa, i've heard a bunch of stories about poor service. or rather, my parents have, and they're the ones that control that kind of stuff.
ah well, **** it, this has basically been me crying about my internet speed, could be worse i suppose.

So did I. In fact, maybe half what I heard about them was "it's ****", and the other half was "it's decent" or "it's awesome". Still, we went ahead and tried it, which worked out quite well.

hmm, that's like my experience with turtle beach, despite everything i've heard, my x11s are still going great, the weird part is i bought them almost a year ago and haven't babied them in the slightest [they've been dropped, ripped off my head when i forgot i had them on, etc]
[just to clarify, i bought them before i had heard all this stuff, or i likely wouldn't have done so ;)]

Phone (with voicemail, which costs extra for some idiotic reason) plus Internet (20/2) is $65/mo (promo pricing) 1st year, $75/mo second year over here, which is extremely good compared to Frontier's pricing. Even with non-promotional pricing it's still lower.

We are paying for 15/1. And since we are good customers, pay our bills on time, and have been with them since they started we got $20 off the actual price.. So $40.

I don't believe there are any bandwidth caps. Virgin's policy is to slow things down a bit for everyone during peak times so everyone gets a pretty good connection, I believe. If I download more than 5GB between 4PM and 9PM, I get slowed down a bit. That's fine, though, I still get a minimum of 25Mbps, usually in the 30-40Mbps range.
75Mbps isn't constant. It's an occasional random jump. I think it stays mostly around the 30-50Mbps range, +5Mbps.
Oh haha, traffic shaping? That blows.
Run ShaperProbe on your line, I'm curious to see if they have implemented shaping for quick downloads.

I might be getting such large variations (going between 65 and 25Mbps) because work on the line isn't finished. Did some reading, and VM's site says "upload speeds will be doubled once work on the line has completed." Might be the reasons for such widely fluctuating DL speeds. I don't download that much, anyway.
Total downloaded in the last 16 hours (since 3AM this morning):
What about total for the month? Here's mine:
(ignore the 250GB cap, it's actually unlimited due to changes to the Mediacom cap structure and my account's status as a pre-change customer)

I'm on the "XL 60Mbps" package, which means it's only my upload to double yet (DL is already doubled, though I was on 10Mbps, so it's sextupled), even though Virgin say my area should be doubled in May/April 2013
Here are the results of that detector:
Ah, okay. Thanks for the result, I guess I was wrong about why you were seeing speed increases.
60mbps... I can get 50mbps here for around $100/month, and while it'd be 10mbps slower on downstream, it'd be faster on upstream (5mbps)... Still, I wish we had FTTH here, there's a backbone but no last-mile development for residential users.

By my understanding, my upstream should go up to around ~6Mbps some time in the future (line work).
No fibre for me though
I've got a cable line coming in (well, there are two cable lines coming in, but one isn't live), which is split into two coaxial cables. One goes to the TV Box, one to the Virgin SuperHub, which is a router and modem in one.
One nice thing about the SuperHub is that it has a "modem mode," so you can use your own router if you wish to do so.
Considering I paid 50p for the upgrade and they knocked the delivery charge off (it was £20 delivery, but the guy put £20 credit on the account), and even on Virgin's lowest package (10Mbps) I received constant speeds, and am still receiving them at a higher package, I'd say this is great customer service.
Far better than Sky (a friend's speedtest from Sky):
My nearest exchange is around a mile or so away.
Interesting. Cable with shaping but no speedboost...
The traffic shaping policy is weird though, most US ISPs have already ditched these systems, I had assumed that the UK was the same.

Im pretty sure a T1 connection should be faster than this... but its not what you gonna do!
Meh?

This was in a car I never stoped I generaly get better speed when not moving but its pretty good.
Pretty good speeds for my area but I unstable with the Router and Modem in 1 combo thing dude this is an amazing speed...
How much are you paying?

$120 isn't bad. Promotional or normal pricing?

Eh, it's enough.
Any bandwidth caps? 75mbps must be fun to have at home.

Ah, that's cool, and those speeds are very impressive (it looks like they're going to double both DL and UL for you).
