There is absolutely no reason you should allocate more than 1 GB to Minecraft, especially after multiple members showed you that it makes no difference.

But multiple members have shown that it does make a difference as well.
I went into the Magic Launcher setup and I ticked the box that read "Maximised" and I now have 2.5 Gigs for Minecraft, I'm not exactly sure what you were talking about but thank goodness you said that, now I don't have to lag so terribly.
Oh, never used magic launcher, so at least there was something for that.

For backwards time travel to be possible, wouldn't every instant in the universe have to be stored somewhere, or time to be something physical you could travel through? Either way doesn't work with the current laws of physics.
When task manager (On my PC) reports MC as using 1 gig of memory, MC reports a usage of 250 MB, which without having ever seen anyone else's numbers for these two would lead to the logical conclusion of MC reporting about 1/4 of the RAM it is actually using.
Close. Java is actually using the Memory. a Java Virtual Machine allocates of course many data structures. Primary is the Heap. it allocates the entire heap at once.
Minecraft is reporting how much of that Heap it is using. The Heap size doesn't change dynamically as a program runs; this is why mods sometimes need you to increase the heap size.
He wasn't even running out of the RAM allocated >_>
Adding more RAM will only help if... he's been running out of RAM.
You do K that when he reserved more RAM the quality improved, right?

Even with mods you won't use over 1 GB except in extreme circumstances.
In FTB New World (With added Galacticraft ,which is very buggy btw), I managed to hit two and a half gigs of ram.

Allocating more RAM only increases the amount of RAM in use by the garbage collector, not the game itself.
