Hi, my mum has cuurently gone on vacations to my uncle in U.K, while she is preparing to come back, she has offered me to bring me an ipad. Although i myself have a laptop that suits my needs, I dont prefer ipad and instead want a mid-range smartphone . But i am not fully aware of ipad(yes i know its touch, but whats more?).....Can anyone tell me is it really worth to buy an ipad, or is it just the same as my lptp?

This poor fly needs a lovely hand to take care. Sadly, 90% simply ignore this
I would rather get an ASUS Transformer Prime/Pad or a Samsung Galaxy Tab. The Transformer offers more functionality, but the Tab has a form factor that resembles the iPad more closely.

Nobody's perfect, so neither is Hannah Montana Linux, but it's pretty great.

They all suck. They just suck differently. Sort of like prostitutes.
I enjoy my iPad, no real regrets, got it for a really good deal. Fun to use, great for doing small computer applications from my bed. Though you can do this with your laptop. If you can, convince her to get you a smartphone, as I find it better IMO. No real recommendations on smartphones however, no real experience with them.
Depends. iOS has the best apps. Android can't top iOS's apps. For apps, get the iPad. For basic web browsing and media consumption, go with Android.

This might have been true two years ago. But now android apps are on par with IOS apps.
Let me rephrase that. iOS has more apps and have better quality apps.

I have no idea what people have said so far, and frankly, I don't care.
The iPad is completely useless, unless you hack it. Apple is far too restrictive on what you can do with the device. It's more of their device than yours.
What's good about Android is Google lets developers and users do mostly whatever they want. Google doesn't care if you hack your device (well, carriers and manufacturers do, but screw them). The Google play market has many more fun and functional apps like game console emulators, SSH clients, many more customizations like custom launchers and widgets. Plus, a lot of apps that are paid on the App Store are free, like Angry Birds.
Don't hurt yourself. Get an Android, like the Xoom Family Edition or the ASUS Transformer/Transformer Prime. It does more.

Not to mention the Asus transformer is cheaper
lol, but i dont have a cat
Thanks guys for help. I am not surely in support of apple, so my little sis got it in place.....maybee i will get htc 1 then from my uncle...

Your cat too?

Thinking about coming a mod to simply not moderate.
Please name one app that is important that Android has not gotten yet?

According to wiki (which I take with a grain of salt)
May 2012 Google play has 500,000 apps
March 7 2012 App store has 585,000 apps.
Im sure both stores have gained more apps. But the difference is negligible in terms of who has more apps.
October 4 2011 app store had 500,000 apps
October 2011 Google play had 319,000 apps
App store has gained 85k apps since October
Google has gained 181k apps since October
The rate of expansion says android app store will soon have more apps than IOS

This has nothing to do with anything. He said Ios had more apps. I was showing him it wasn't near as many more as he thought. It had everything to do with it.
Its ok we all make mistakes
