I'm looking for a graphics card that would be able to make The Sims 3 and Minecraft look pretty. Sims 3 on high settings but low-ish resolution (1280x1024), and Minecraft with Far render distance.
Mobo has 1 PCI-E 1.0 x16 slot, and I'm working with a 500w PSU.
I've been looking at the HD 6670. Overkill, possibly? Or just right? Would not having a PCI-E 2.1 slot cause noticeable performance issues?
My HD 6770 isn't causing noticeable performance issues on PCIe 1.0 so I doubt your 6670 will. The Sims 3 and Minecraft will both run just fine. Going any lower would force you to get the 6450, which is a rather weak GPU.

Thanks! I think I'll get the 6670. I'm glad someone has a similar setup.
You can find out what power supply it is by opening the case and checking the label, it'll look something like this. I wouldn't recommend giving it a try before you are sure it's fine, a power supply failure can bring down other components with it.
Hey, that's what the one that I converted into a hobby power supply looked like before I gutted most of the cables! (it didn't have a switch either, but I added one)

I do not own the computer that the card is going in. It has previously had a card in it before, a GeForce 8400, and it was fine, just crappy.

I don't know, it isn't for me. All I know is that it's 500w.
It's probably on the cheaper end, but it's worth a shot.

In that case the PSU should be fine. The 8400 GS only pulls 40 watts.
