I think this is the first non-computer-related topic in this subform for 2012. Every damn thread is computer-related, and yet the section is supposed to be "Computers, Software & Technology". Lasers are technology! At least a bit!
Anyways, here's my humble laser collection. Does anyone else here have some lasers? They're quite a fun hobby, albeit somewhat dangerous.
1.2W SL I 445nm
200mw (100-150mw actual (estimate)) 532nm DX module (taped to my power supply until I feel non-lazy enough to finish the box case project I was making)

i always wanted a powerful laser, are there any that can be seen without shooting it through a metric ton of fog?
My 22mw pointers can be faintly seen in the dark, and are fairly cheap/safe. A good 50mw pointer might be perfect for just viewing the beam, if that's your goal.
If you want burning, you'd need to go up to 150mw+. If you want extreme burning, you'll need Class IV (500mw+), and maybe 1W+.

yeah pretty much thats it lol, laser pointers from say, Dollar General, do not even show up unless your able to fill a room with fog and shine it, it's cool to see the beams

This is mainly because when the board upgrade happened the subforum was changed to "Computers, Science & Technology" to what it is now. Then the "Science" was moved to "Politics, News & Science" and there really isn't much of a distinction between technology and science with most threads so they are forwarded to PPNS.
I envy your collection. The most I have is some homemade thing from an old dvd burner. It kind of works and I have no idea on the technical details.

Yeah, I'm still trying to understand the reasoning behind that. Politics/News/Science is 99% politics/news, with very little Science-related stuff.
Anyways, this thread could go in either section, but I feel that people in this one will actually be interested in it, as opposed to pns.

Would it actually boil your eyeball? I'd imagine pointing a laser of that strength at people must be against the law somewhere.
Then again, there's probably a law against taking people's heads off with rail guns too...
Well, here's a pic of someone's eyeball. He had a 1W laser hit his eye for <1sec as it fell off of a table.

That is horrible. I would need to wear contact lenses of those glasses OP posted. SO would everyone within a 1 mile radius of me.
It would be a cool hobby but I would be too scared to enjoy it. It could be used as a freaking weapon.

I'm back from my eternal slumber of 2 or 3 months. A long-ass time.
Oh boy, visual basic. I can barely contain my excitement.Not.

To add to this Blind spots suck I have one on my right eye off center to the right.
You eventually stop noticing it about after a year unless you want to.
But ya lasers fall under the category of **** with it and it will **** you up.

Uh... do you know how light works?
By definition, The only way you can see something is if the light goes into your eyes. It is literally impossible to see the beam itself, what you can possibly see however is rays from the beam being reflected by dust, dirt, or in your example, water vapour.
The Sun is the strongest light source available on Earth and you cannot see the light itself, only what reflects it. Otherwise the earth would be encapsulated in a fog simply caused by sunlight!

Everybody has a blind spot where the retinal nerve fibers collect into the optic nerve. The brain tries to cover it up by sorta mixing in the surrounding image, making it usually unnoticable.

The only laser type thing is a cheap one that came with one of my airsoft guns.
But can your homemade rail run blind you in miliseconds? I don't think so! Can it burn wood? Nope!
Lol.

True, true. Still, boiling eyeballs are fun, right?
