So since I've had a 4.0 GPA this year my parents have agreed to let me get a new computer.
Im looking for a laptop computer for gaming around $800 I was just wondering what you guys think might be good.
I currently have the HP Pavilion g4.
I have an hp dv6t quad edition and im super satisfied with performance. i get great frame rates at medium/high setting on fallout new vegas. I got mine with a bunch of upgrades on ebay for $880 but its well worrth the money. i would recommend looking around hp. when i was looking for laptops, i looked all over the internet and hp offered me the best bang for my buck. i recommend looking around their site or dell or even asus

DV6Ts are lulism, I have seen 2 threads purely about problems with those peoples DV6Ts. Mostly screen issues, strobe screens ftw. HP is a no no tbh.
800 bucks isnt gonna get a OMFG MEGA gaming laptop, not even close really.
Custom built desktop gaming computer, powerful enough to max most all games on market as of current.

i so far have had no problems with mine, only one is that when i play minecraft on switchable graphics i get 7-9 fps because system doesnt recognize minecrafts opengl graphics as high performance, so i have to set it to fixed when i want to play minecraft on my dedicated graphics + 1920X1080 screen is beautiful

Don't go with the Pavilion Dv6 me and 2 other people I know of have had the side of the case melted and craked by the mass heat the laptop makes. There are 3 laptops in the Leveno IdeaPad series that are good, I don't remember what they are though.
You are MUCH better off building a desktop though.

I'm back from my eternal slumber of 2 or 3 months. A long-ass time.
Oh boy, visual basic. I can barely contain my excitement.Not.
What kind of specs would a "good" gaming computer have?
A desktop isnt really an option.
By "build" do you mean buy all the indevidual parts and put them together myself? If I do that it probably wont end well
Because I also use my computer for school work and take it to and from school. Weight isnt an issue since I dont have to carry it far. I also go to a private school so I dont have to worry about it getting stolen

I'm certain that your current laptop is just fine for high-school level work. A laptop that's even remotely suitable for high end gaming is most certainly out of your price-range, and I highly suggest you build your own. We can help you pick parts, and get you some videos on how to put it together if you wish.
My current computer runs most games ok (and is just fine for anything school related), but I lag a lot in games, which is the main reason I want to upgrade. The lenovo has double my ram, a better processor and rpm, more disk memory, more everything really so I feel pretty happy with it.

And therefore would do its job correctly if you used a desktop for your games, correct?
What I suggest is that you keep your current laptop for school and traveling, and build a nice desktop for gaming.
I can only have one computer, quote from my mom earlier today when I actually sugested getting a new desktop and keeping my curent laptop for school "What? You can't have 2 computers!" I think my parents dont want to have to pay for more norton subscriptions and anyway its best not to argue

They don't have to pay for them. MSE and Malwarebytes are superior to Norton, and free.

>Gaming
>Laptop
>Not outrageously expensive
That is a better list

Depends, do you mean Gaming Desktop or Laptop. If laptop, its a whole new level to say.
Get the 759 USD one. If you are in US that is. It will be fine, and it is on sale FOR this week. Normally 1500 USD.
Wow! I think Im going to get the 759 one it looks great! Thanks so much for the help
Just a question how much is 2.2GHz?
Will the lenovo be a big improvement from the hp pavilion g4 (my current computer)?
This computer most likely uses a different CPU architecture, nullifying clock speed. I can guarantee you this will be faster, though.
May I ask, why isn't a desktop an option?

You don't have to pay for either of these. Use the second one for real time security, and use the trial version of the first for virus scans.
