So today I was trying to run bf3 (which was not going so great...) when all of the sudden there was a power outage (which, from what I heard happened in my whole neighborhood) which caused my computer to automatically and probably unsafely shut down. When that happened there was a rather odd and loud noise, kinda sounded like an amplified noise coming from a microphone having some sound problems (sorry I'm bad at describing things so it probably isn't the best description). Although my speakers were on at a kinda high volume.
When the power came back on, my computer automatically turned back on too and I noticed that there were some minor problems with it. I was unable to type anything into my internet browser. Also I got a new mouse (and keyboard) today and I just changed my old mouse and keyboard to my new one an hour or two before the power outage happened. The problem was fixed when i changed my new mouse back to my old one so the problem that occurred may not have been caused by the power outage but I still have my doubts that it was a coincidence since the mouse and keyboard were working mighty fine before the power outage.
And I don't know if this is just my fear that something is wrong with my computer due to the power outage but it does feel like my computer's start up time is slightly noticeably longer.
So how can I check if my computer is ok and what do I do if something is wrong with it? I heard that when you are adding new computer components to your computer and you don't ground yourself properly there is a chance you can cause static discharge thus damaging your computer, and sometimes you don't notice the damage until after a few days or weeks. Would the same concept apply here?
Please help and thank you for your time

Sure it wasn't a surge? It would explain a bit more, like the mouse and keyboard get to much voltage.

unfortunately not...I know it was pretty stupid of me not getting one but during that time when I got the computer I really didn't take into account D:

Really? Well, little late now, but you should order one. Really they're all of 5 bucks, you could get one delivered right to your house if you have to.

But is there anything I could do about my computer right now cuz getting a surge protector wouldn't help the problem I have now right?

A surge protector would not repair any damage already caused, no.
The sound you heard coming from your speakers was electrical interference. It's what happens when currents not associated with audio run through your speaker wires.
If your computer is booting up and running just fine, then you don't have much to worry about. I'd still run a chkdsk -f (google it) on your hard drives, though, as sudden shut-downs can do a number on your filesystem. If any errors were introduced, it's best to patch those up (which chkdsk will do).
I find it unlikely that the keyboard and mouse problem was caused by the surge. A computer's power supply does act as a sort of shield against surges, though being used as such can potentially damage the power supply. If such damage occurred, it's unlikely that your computer would run at all.

Not really, if the parts are damaged you wouldn't know unless you stress test them. Alternatively it could be a software problem, like the drivers getting messed up. It's hard to tell honestly.
Stressing them would be using some programs like furmark, prime95, memtest 86, or run a chkdisk on the hard drive.
