You changed a stupid setting in a GUI for a router.
Do you want a metal?
I know 12 year olds who can program you are not a special snowflake.
You should not be so smug about it, your parents know what is best for you and I'm sure they had a good reason to restrict your rights to the internet past midnight.
Its not hacking. I got into it with legit ways. The router is in my own home.
No it is not Your home you just live in it. Just because you live in an apartment complex and someone else leaves the door open does not give you the right to enter. Leaving something unlocked does not make getting into it "legit".

Are you kidding me? Are you seriously comparing me getting into my home network to claiming a random apartment as my own?

It is not your network I'm comparing you living with your parents to living with other people in an apartment.
Just because the router is on the internet does not mean breaking into it any more legal then breaking into someones car or house.

No. I am not breaking into it. I didn't change any passwords. There is absolutely no harm done
I hope your parents find out about this, and I hope they get really pissed at you and take away your entire computer. (Because you're being a defiant, smug, brat.).
Then I hope you have kids someday and I hope they do this same **** to you. (Maybe then you'll realize why your parents might have locked you out of the network.).

Editing a router setting isn't hard at all, I'm 13 and I handle the wifi settings for my parents, it's possibly the easiest thing I do on the computer. If your parents don't want you on, accept it or try to convince your parents to let you on.

Just because no harm is done.
So if you owned a house or a car and you left it unlocked I could come in watch TV for a few hours use your bathroom or take it on a joy ride and because no harm done you would be OK with it.

taking a joyride would put wear and tear on the engine, tires, brakes, etc. ergo, harm being done, little as it may be. js.

Obviously. But am I breaking any laws?

EDIT: Also getting into the router page and changing a few settings is pretty easy.
Hacking is unauthorized use of computer and network resources.
Hacking is a felony in the United States.
I wouldn't say he was breaking any laws, he/she didn't even "hack" at all.

I help out when I can.
He's the kind of guy who would be impressed by that. He isn't strict and I will always love him and respect his authority
