Hey, late last year I purchased a 13-inch Macbook Pro 2010 off eBay. It ended up costing $1000-something with tax and shipping, and I took it to Bestbuy to fix some hard drive issue (it came without an install disk). I have feelings of longing for Ultrabooks or other thin laptops, but I like my current laptop. Is this a normal thing that happens to people? Will I never be satisfied with my choice?
Please help. I'm really confused.
Reasons I bought my laptop (because people might ask): Backlit keyboard, good battery life, good enough gaming performance, and good build quality.
Trolling aside, you should seriously look into Non-Mac Pcs. Yes we all know the BS of Macs being less prone to viruses, but in all honesty unless your being an idiot with your PC viruses aren't a concern. Download an anti-virus like AVG or Avast and you'll be fine. Not to mention if you Compare Specs of Macs to PCs you find that Macs are priced much higher while offering almost identical hardware.
"There are 260 million laptops and desktops in American homes and offices, and many of their users back their favorite side in the Mac vs. PC battle with a passion. But we wanted to cut though the rhetoric and get some hard data. For our showdown between these rival operating systems, we got two laptops with nearly identical specs—one Mac and one PC—and subjected them to a host of different of tests. When the dust settles, which is triumphant?" : http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/gadgets/reviews/mac-vs-pc-ultimate-laptop-lab-test?click=pp#slide-1

If you could post your PC specs I'd actually be curious as to what they are.

http://support.apple.com/kb/sp583 straight from the horses mouth, I have the 250GB HDD and 2.4 GHz C2D, and the standard 4GB of RAM.
I also have a custom built desktop that works well for gaming. I don't think selling my laptop so soon after getting it is the solution though... I'm honestly asking this question, should I feel remorse for my expensive purchase? Should I be completely satisfied?
As long as it works now, it is fine, but just remember that the grass is always greener on the other side. You'll probably find that if you got the Ultrabook, you'll want a better machine later on in a few months.
Everyone is going to have different opinions, but chances are that you have a nice computer that you should just enjoy using.
Okay, thank you. Grass-is-greener syndrome seems like the right way to define this.

For the price you payed you could have gotten a I7 and a highend mobile dedicated graphics card capable of running Bf3 on high.
But at least you got the shinny osx interface.

.............. You paid $1,000+ for an old 2010 MBP?
Good build quality, are you serious?
Good GAMING performance? This has to be a joke, most MBPs don't even have a graphics card and if they do they are low end.
Send it back if you can, good god, you got an awful deal. For $1,000 you could have built a desktop that would max every single game and then some, or gotten a laptop that can almost max all modern games.
NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory5
This thing has worse gaming performance than my desktop from 2006.
You can't blame the guy. That was a reasonable price for an iMac and yes, it will have good gaming performance. There's not a hell of a lot wrong with it, it's a solid machine without anything SERIOUSLY wrong with it.
No it will not.
The graphics card is 3x worse than my 9800GT from 2008. It is horrible.
As a whole the machine is horrible and he overpaid by $700. That is not a reasonable price at all, not even close.
2.4GHz or 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 3MB on-chip shared L2 cache
4GB DDR3
This will also not give him very great performance, the core 2 duo is currently showing MAJOR age and any machines intended for gaming will need to replace it.

I already have a gaming desktop though... Graphics cards produce heat and usually make a laptop heavier. I originally considered a Sony VAIO SB, which would have been cheaper and had a dedicated graphics card.

I have to mention again that I already have a gaming desktop. I understand in hindsight I've payed more than I should've. Hell, a refurbished would have been cheaper (not having to get some hard drive issue repaired at Bestbuy would have saved me about $200...). You seem angry towards Apple... what happened? Also, I said good enough game performance; if it runs minecraft at like 40fps it's good enough.

Minecraft is not exactly a demanding game. My Pentium 4 with 640MB RAM and a 7600GT can run it at 50FPS.
I am not angry towards apple, I am annoyed that people believe all the misconceptions surrounding them like "better build quality" when they are made from literally the exact same parts as any other computer, but marked up.

This is pretty common knowledge, especially if you have been working in this field for a while.
I think "build quality" means how well the computer as a whole is built, not what components it has. You could have a computer with amazing components but it's put together like **** or a computer with **** components and amazing build quality.

Once again, that is false. I have worked on many apple products including laptops and desktops, they were all pretty poorly built, some even feeling fragile/breaking easily.
The MBPs and Airs being the prime candidates. If you place it on a table the wrong way they would shatter. It might "feel" like it has good build quality because of the metal case and it feels like it is 1 piece, but should even a small piece get loose the entire thing falls apart.

I never said anything about Apple computers. I was talking about "in general".
Let's just remember that a graphics card isn't the only thing that affect performance now.
Yes it is, actually, in this case.
I have a core 2 duo and can run modern games and minecraft perfectly fine. But without my graphics card (9800GT 1GB) I would not be able to do that.
Considering his GPU is 3 times worse than my card from 2008, he would be able to run minecraft at maybe 40FPS, but that's about it for 3D games.
Any $1,000 computer would have either a quad core i5 or a dual core i7 with a 555m or 560m. Compared to what the OP bought, a $500 ASUS would be better.

edit: ninja'd.
Tell me about Llano's game performance. Especially the A4-3300M if you could.
I'm sorry but why are we arguing about the best build for a computer in the price range. I believe the OP asked us why he felt so bad about buying his computer, and we have just gone way off topic. We already solved this problem.

Here is some informative reading you should do.

In general, unless it is an IBM/HP toughbook or a lenovo/IBM thinkpad all laptops have horrible build quality.
It's kind of a rule in the world of laptops.
Any computer in the 1000$ price range would have an I7.
If you wanted just a mobile not really gaming pc you could have gotten a 500$ lano lenevo laptop that would out perform the mac in every way.

Better than the 320m? More than likely, yes.
