Ive been looking around the internet and have seen screenshots and vids on Windows 8. Are you guys considering getting it when its out?
I think it looks kinda strange, more like a phone, and I like the cool look of it, but I'll stick with download tons of software to make 7 look nice. :smile.gif:

Having personally used it, no. It gives no benefits over windows 7 aside from useless bells and whistles.
It's already out, look on Microsoft's site for it.
Well, technically it's beta, but it's free and only has 10 bugs, so hey, why not?
It's not even technically beta. It's a Developer Preview, like an Alpha Pre-Release. Beta will come much later. And it's free for a limited time so developers know what they're going to have to deal with in the future.
Also, it definitely has more than 10 bugs. There are most likely tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of known bugs.

The bugs aren't too terrible and just like 7's dev preview it is quite stable save for driver issues causing BSODs.
The big problem is security holes.
HO-LY HELL there are a METRIC ASSTON of security holes in the 8 dev preview. I know it's a developer preview but, damn! A few of these are pretty basic things.
Nope, most likely not. You cannot design an operating system that makes tablets and mobile devices the priority, unless it's its own operating system. It does not work to design one for mobile devices and personal computers. Windows 7 has been the best windows operating system yet, and windows 8 is going to be a huge failure for PC profits. If Microsoft wants to design their own operating system for tablets, do not make one that can be used on PC's. This new tile/start screen ******** is stupid.

That's if you get the x86 version, maybe the ARM version will be more secure while everyone tries to write new malware for it.
Many many many many many many forms of malware do not depend on the x32 or x64 of the system, just how the system itself works. I would not be surprised (in fact I would expect it) if a lot of malware did not even need to be rewritten for ARM.
I want to stick with windows 7. I just hope they won't stop updating 7 for a while, or do stupid b-llsh-t like only allow windows 8 to have dx12 or stuff like that. They should realize that most people will stick with 7 and keep it as a priority.
I have had to post this in all the threads about windows8, YOU CAN CHANGE IT TO LOOK LIKE 7 it is only defaulting to the tablet interface by default on desktops so developers can take a look at the interface that is who this is for not for beta testing.

Hush you and your facts, we're trying to be enraged in here, can't you see that!?
(On a side note, while you can make it look like 7, the added bells and whistles and other unnecessary features are far worse than an "ugly GUI".)

Actually I like the new task manager we will need it once we have 32 core machines and crap at the rage AMD is going that might be soon, because cores = performance.
They rewrote the way windows handles usb and file transfers to be faster. (one of the bigger features)
rewrote the threading engine to be 2% more efficient with unique cpu designs like bulldozer.
Uh that's about it other then the new version of directx.

The new task manager is nice but things like integrated windows/xbox live (WHY!? WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?) and added useless features just don't appeal to me.
As for the new DX version, we're barely stepping on what DX10 and 11 can do, I really hope they don't push DX12 with win8 but it seems like they want to....
I'm sure we'll still be able to dual boot, but how well is a good question, IIRC 8 uses a completely new MBR/boot loader than any other windows OS.

All I hope is that dx12 will also run on win 7, because I have no plans on upgrading to win 8 anytime soon.

Chances are it will not, as with other DX versions (save for 10.5) they will not scale down. Plus MS wants to push 8 for the bells and whistles like integrated xbox live and the ability to (supposedly) play xbox games natively on the PC via some sort of direct hardware emulation only available in windows 8.

7 will do fine for me.

ISO if you want to try it in a VM:

Also the toolbars in explorer are F***ING HUGE.

Definitely made for tablets and phones, not PCs

It looks like Windows 7's MS Paint.
Also no. I have a slight vibe that Windows 8 isn't going to be as good as 7, so I should stay to 7 for now.

Which is a damn shame.
