So here is my problem in a nutshell. I start a video on this computer and it loads maybe 2-10 seconds then stops. The bandwidth that it starts out with is around the right amount. After that 2-10 seconds it slows down to anywhere between 0-120kbps while on average it is supposed to be 600-1200kbps. I literally cannot watch a youtube video without having to wait for an hour or so. I have cleared my cache, reset my router, used opendns, changed my ip, used a different browser, reinstalled flash, and pretty much cleaned everything from my browser with nothing effecting it. This has been going on for months but it would fix itself after awhile. I have even shutdown my anti virus. Other websites work perfectly fine. It is just this computer and youtube that are having issues.
Also, some times the video will work in pop out mode.
Also it seems to work fine when it is embedded like it is on this post.
Who is your ISP? Mine is Virgin Media and whilst they will deny, deny, deny, there's little doubt in my mind that they are artificially throttling YouTube bandwidth.
People have been blaming their default combined modem/router equipment, but that doesn't ring true to me at all.
So, in short: No fix.
Actually, Google has deals with many ISPs to host partial mirrors at ISP servers in order to speed up your access to Google sites. I am unsure if Youtube is included in this.
What the OP describes happens to everyone. There's a good chance it's part of the way Youtube works. It'll load a bit of the video very quickly and then load the rest at a slower pace. I guess it is figured that the video can load all the way before you ever reach the point at which the video would need to pause to load.
Either that or Google figured out that most people actually only watch the first few seconds of a video.
this hasn't just been happening for months, I have had this issue for well over a year now.
My typical fix is to change it from 480p to 720p or 360p and back to whatever I happened to be watching it at, usually 480. This will usually restart the buffering. Some videos I have to do this multiple times a video, some buffer almost instantly.
Trying to get games written for windows to work on a Linux machine is like trying to put a diaper on an incontinent buffalo. Sure, you might get it all done, but you'll certainly be left with a huge mess, and it's very time consuming.
This happens to me sometimes too. I fix it by moving the knob at the bottom far ahead in the video and leave it so that it loads a tiny piece. Then I move the knob back to a point in the beginning and the rest of the video loads faster. Not sure why this works though.

Youtube sucks. It always has.
Both of these did not work.
