To put it short and simple, no. I'm saying this assuming that by a "good" pc you mean one that can play current gen games on at least medium settings. $400 is barely even enough to get a good netbook. To get a decent computer I would say you need at least $700-$800 to get a low-end gaming pc. Also, if you want to get it custom built, that would almost double the cost, but also the quality.

If you build it yourself you could get a relatively okay computer not including the OS, Monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.

TL;DR version:
No, you need at least $700!
it would not cost more if you custom built it. In fact you could save a lot of money. But it seems like the OP prefers pre built.

He meant custom built as in sites that let you pick your own parts and build it for you, not building it yourself. I would recommend saving up another 200 or so dollars and building your own. You can still build your own with that money, but don't expect to play any games other than maybe minecraft on there. And that is a serious maybe. It would be good for web browsing, word, etc. though :smile.gif:
Yes, you would be able to get a decent PC for $400. Not a decent gaming PC, but a decent one. Don't have any recommendations though since you prefer to have it pre-built.

It is done. All are good quality parts with at least 4 egg rating on Newegg. No OS? No problem. Get Linux. Want it prebuilt? Too bad. This is the best I could do with $400.

Why would you pick a SAS drive for a SATA board? (and an expensive one at that). Pick up a 1TB SATA caviar or barracuda for twice the storage at less than half the price. A 7200 RPM drive would never saturate a 3 GB/s link, let alone 6.
He wanted a pc for 400 dollars, not 700. 700 will get you something pretty good. That is not a very good recommendation though. First, the new AMD processors are coming out on June 7 and will a) lower the prices of sandy bridge and other amd processors and B ) will make a new socket type. ASUS doesn't produce that great of mobos. They are generally a bit overpriced for what you are getting. I have never heard of a sunbeam psu, but I would recommend something from seasonic, antec, corsair, silverstone. About the hdd, why? For 64.99 you can get the samsung F3 spin point which is just as fast with twice the storage. Save up to 700 dollars and see the prices and other stuff the .

Thinking about coming a mod to simply not moderate.
On Max settings, most likely. On Minimum settings, possibly but I honestly kind of doubt it.
Seriously, you can get at least decent PC at no more than $700
For this I use newegg price rating.

Probably the best thing you'll get for the money.
Good gaming PC? Not so much. I really wouldn't spend 400 dollars on that if you expect to be playing any halfway modern games, a good try, but.
You need more money, basically.
