The i3 out performs the phenom II x4's in gaming any day. Check the benchmarks. Intel's new structure makes it incredibly quick. The am3 socket is going to be OEL'ed anyway, so if he ever wanted to upgrade the CPU, he would have to buy a whole new mobo. Intel, however, is not going to dump their 1155 socket anytime soon seeing as it is fairly new.
