Linux just isn't ready for mainstream public yet. People who are willing to spend their time getting to know it will love it, but everyone else won't be able to handle the pressure of a little tweak here and there. Ubuntu is already getting close to mainstream public, but not close enough.
I like my iMac. It does mostly everything I need it to and is reliable. Granted, software incompatibility with just about everything is irritating, but it's not THAT bad. I just find something else to do.
I hate when ignorant "PC users" flame Macs, though. They don't even know what they're talking about, usually. I like Windows PCs for gaming and everything, but... jeez.
I don't mind macs, just can't afford them is the problem. I'm not to keen on paying $3000 on a alrightish computer that will come outdated within the next 1-2 years when with the same amount build something close to a supercomputer. I could build something that will give similar (or even better) preformance for $500 (if you know the right people and work in the right places).

HλLF A LIFE
(My works: Art, Music, MINECRAFT and other stuff)
Once you add in the cost of the windows equivalent of iWork (Microsoft Office), iLife (??), major OS updates, etc... it starts looking a lot more affordable. The high cost of the hardware helps pay for software development which is one of the reasons the suits that come with it are very good quality. And OS updates, compared to windows, are **** cheap because they're essentially subsidized by the hardware cost. $27 for OS X 10.6 vs $219 for Windows 7? $0 for iWork vs $349 for Office 2010?
Sadly, the chap OS update only works if you bought your iMac with OS X 10.5. We that bought our iMacs earlier with OS X 10.4 get shafted with $120.

If you know the right people "cough"MSDN Account"cough" you can get every program mentioned for free, making it look even more affordable.

$200 for a pc capable of running windows, linux and all other kinds of pc-based OS's fine, $1000 for a mac...
A Mac IS a PC. It can run any x86[_64] OS just fine. This machine I'm on right now is a tripple boot between Ubuntu 9.10 LTS, OS X 10.6 and Windows 7.
I can triple boot my laptop in that same configuration for one third the price.
Macs aren't inherently bad, but I do grow tired of the "making movies" excuses for buying one. As computers become more powerful, and software becomes more diverse, Windows/*nix will have comparable editing software compared to a Mac.
If I bought a Mac, it would be because it looks sleeker and cleaner than any other piece of hardware out there. I won't though, I just can't justify paying the price.
I prefer Windows in general, but I try to approach the whole pc vs mac vs penguins unbiasedly as possible. its hard considering how smug steve and his advertising is (pisses me off damnit!) and that almost everyone else i know uses a mac thesedays, buts thats fine. Im on my mom's macbook right now (the alienware laptop i had's backlight went kaput the other day, no surprise with all the heat it puts out and how old it is) and i have to say, ifeel very limited on a mac. it might just be inexperience with the OS (not really, my school uses all macs, i know my way around more or less) but how often this thing just doesnt work is f***in pissing me off. not only that, but the stupid magnet charger keeps unplugging itself at the slightest tug, forcing me to get off my ass and retreive the plug now on the floor somewhere.
one + i can say about it is that i like the keyboard better than my alienware's, even if some of the buttons are moved around and there is no regular delete key. nice touchpad too and some of the gestures are usefull, tho im normally using a mouse anyway. all of the apple software i can find on this i know of a similar free program that does the job just as well.
linux i have only used once for about a 30min period which involved watching youtube videos, so i cant really comment.
Windows vista i really didnt like, it was a failure by microsoft, they lost a lot of business with vista. 7 is great, its whats on my main computer. people who tell me 7 stole from OSX with the pinning on the taskbar thing are unintelligent in general, considering windows has had that function since xp (quickbar anyone?).

Matt, seriously, stop trolling. So can you please shut the **** up and go troll the infdev forums about how much you want to get 10 bucks from your hobo house?
I have a mac, dual-boot 10.6/win xp. I get the best of both worlds. Mac has way better software, but not as much of it. Windows has shitloads of software, but quality goes from amazing to terrible. I am a video techie, love my Adobe Production Suite CS5+Final Cut, adobe is for both platforms, final cut is all apple. I am going to abruptly stop this post, now.
As a Mac and PC owner there is something that sort of annoys me. It seems that MOST Mac users are up themselves on how "ergonomically beautiful it is" or how "Its so shiny I can see my ugly reflection in it" or "Its so smooth baby vomit would slide right off it" Must all computers be fashion statements? I am happy when I computer does what it needs to do. Its like buying a expensive car and not driving it. I simply do not get it.
That and the fact Apple controls everything. Apple will die soon when Google releases more technology. Apple is pissing me off though, I have an iPod Touch and it's not like it changed my life. Another thing is, Mac people are amazed by the simplest things. Like iMovie, Sony Vegas is waaay better than iMovie or even Final Cut Pro for that matter. To make an iPod App Apple demands you have a mac to get the SDK. Google does not. I've used my uncles Mac lots of times, it's nothing special, damn expsensive. Oh and that whole it doesn't get viruses crap is a lie. Google it, it gets viruses. JUST NOT AS MANY. BECAUSE, hackers target towards the bigger market share, like Microsoft, you see many more PCs than macs out there. They get the most viruses. I haven't gotten a virus yet because when I surf the web I am cautious, that and the fact I have good virus protection. Anyway, that felt damn good to get off my chest. FYI, I have a triboot 2000, xp, opensuse, soon 7 once I get my new pc. :biggrin.gif:

Successful troll is successful, then?
Yes, he was pretty successful. Mostly since this community is made of 12 year old kids who can't control themselves.

It's all about preference.
