I built my custom PC 2 years ago and it's been working great until just yesterday. It has shut off while playing games twice recently. I assumed that's because something is getting too hot, so I rebooted my computer and opened Speccy instantly and my graphics card was at 70 degrees Celsius. Nothing in my case has been moved so the airflow should still be fine. I assume it's just the graphics card's fan.
Currently I have this (XFX Radeon 6870) graphics card. It has one fan that doesn't seem to get the job done. I've been looking through other graphics cards and saw great reviews on this one (Sapphire Radeon R9 270x). It has two fans which would help keep it cooler than my current one. I'm just wondering if it'd be worth it, and make sure there wouldn't be a bottleneck happening with my CPU. I have an Intel i3 2120 @3.4 GHz. If I were to upgrade to the R9 270x, would I notice a performance increase as well, assuming no bottleneck from the CPU?
Alright so I looked at the R9 280 and I was wondering which would be better. There's this (Gigabyte brand) or this (MSI Brand). I've heard better reviews of MSI in general, but the Gigabyte's version of the 280 has three fans. Which one should I go with?
The Gigabyte Windforce R9 280 is the same cost at NCIX as the MSI is before mail-in rebates on Newegg. The rebate at Newegg ends tomorrow so then they'll be the same price; I'd definitely go with the Windforce.

Your Proccesor is weak. You need to get a new PC or laptop. Here are some suggestions for you.
FOR MINECRAFT ONLY
Intel i5 to i7 Proccesor, Ram up to 6GB or more for the game to run faster and with less lag (You need to set how much RAM you want to run MC with manually). And an integrated GPU. Because what's the use of getting a strong GPU for MC. Minecraft also likes to heat up and fry GPUs so that will be a waste of such a good GPU. Also Integrated GPUs can withstand MC longer.
FOR OTHER GAMES TOO
Intel i7 Proccesor, Ram up to 8GB or more to help the games run smoothly. And a strong GPU to play the high graphics games. Sadly I can't help you on Minecraft frying the GPU. Just don't play MC too much. Maybe that will work out.
I HOPE I HELPED YOU!

I am an OP Steve with Epic mapmaking and Redstone skills. And any of you guys can have it too!So,
He has a mid-range processor from 3 years prior. How exactly is that "weak"?

Minecraft only? With those specs?

Going to need a citation here because this makes absolutely no sense.

Yeah, good luck getting high FPS.[/quote]
Just because Newegg says you need 600W doesn't mean you do. The R9 280 uses 200 Watts at most and the i3 uses 65 Watts. So you don't need a new power supply. The one you have right now is fine.

I built my own computer in 2012, Specs are: Intel i3-2100, Amd radeon 5570, 8GB of ram, 500GB Hard drive, Antec One case, Z77A G43 Motherboard, OCZ 600W PSU. Windows 7 64 Bit.
Also I have a youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc9Bi9r4UPZbAWyuRKBJeoA
I like to play games on steam like Garry's Mod and robocraft.
I just ordered the R9 280. Just a question though, are you positive that a 600 watt PSU isn't needed or advisable? I was talking to my friend and he said he'd recommend it just to be safe.
As long as your 550W is decent enough quality and can actually provide its labled power output it will most certainly power the 280 without any issues if not then you would need to replace it though 600W would not be required

I looked at the 280 and found an MSI and Gigabyte version. MSI is cheaper, but Gigabyte is slightly faster and has 3 fans. Which should I go for?
Also, my PSU is 550 Watts. Would I need to upgrade that as well?
