I love Windows 8 after playing around with it a bit. It's better for gaming, and just feels quicker than other OS's i've had. (XP, 7)
The only arguments I hear from people about 8 is;
1. "It doesn't have a start menu!"
But it does? Except it's sideways, or you can pull up, and see all the programs on your computer (much better than a limited start menu?)
2. "It was made for a tablet!"
No? It was made for a computer, which is why it is a computer OS? You have a desktop, just like in Windows 7, and you also have all the programs you want? Just in a more prettier, and easier format.
Most of the people that "hate" it, are ones that have never used it, or only used it on a tablet. They just jump the "I hate 8" bandwagon, which has died down, because those people have moved to 8, and fell in-love with it. I've been fortunate enough to play on a 8.1 computer and tablet, it works perfect on both! I love how simple and fast it is (It's better for gaming than 7, btw)
Granted, it is worse to use without a few.. additions.. but once you add StartIsBack/Start8 or some other related program, it's fine. With a few easy tweaks it behaves exactly like Windows 7, I haven't touched the 'Metro' part of it since I first installed it. The extra features like improved Explorer, improved Task Manager, improved file copying etc make it worth it.
Having the taskbar icon for a program on the respective screen for the location of the window is handy too.
