This is primarilly related to minecraft but this is pretty important to mention regardless.
This morning while attempting to update adobe flash it got stopped by this thing called Price Meter/Metar. After a quick search I found it IS in fact a bit of malware/adware. It appeared on my computer last month somehow, due to dowloading minecraft mods.
Despite being careful to avoid dealing with crap like this while s this managed to sneak into my computer. Now of course we all know downloading mods leads to this risk, thing is this price metar thing can sneak onto one's computer despite saying "skip add" on the adfly and other similar torrent sites, so those who do modded minecraft best do a check of their computers to be safe and delete this thing from your systems. Chances are it'll be there despite your protection.
Or alternatively you can use a restricted user so your whole computer doesn't get infected.
Or another choice is through the use of Linux.
Even with the top I have seen malware on library machines I managed and they all ran non admin accounts in windows.
Tell that to the fact the whole display manager runs as root and is not that hard to hijack and get root access via that you also have lots of privilege escalation bugs in graphics drivers.
Why is it I see a lot of people run around telling people to use Linux and without a doubt most of the people who do this have probably only touched Linux in a VM and have never really used it.
