Hello I would like some help picking a new graphics card for my custom build pc.
My brother needs a new card for his pc so i am giving him mine and getting a better one for myself my current pc specs are:
AMD FX-8320 CPU
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 Motherboard
G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Gigabyte Radeon HD 7870 2GB Video Card
Corsair CX500 500W
I would like to get the best available for my budget which is 300$-400$ (AU)
and i will mostly be using it with heavily modded minecraft (curently my fps gets rather low at times)
I took a quick look on pc part picker but there are just soo many and i have no idea what is best for my situation.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Honestly, OP, I would just wait for a while. The 280X's, which are the highest you can afford in your budget, really don't offer as much of a performance increase as you would expect. It's not like there's any game a 270X (7870) can't run that a 280X can.
The 7870 is compared to the 270, not the 270x.
And if 30-50 FPS more means anything to you, then I'd say it's a big upgrade.
But anyways, he said he is giving his to his brother, so why not get a 280x? It's in his budget, and it's a very good card (and comes with 3 free games)
You have a waaaay bigger problem than your GPU if you get that with a 7870 / 8320.
You know I mean 30-50 more fps over the 270x. Don't take the text out of context. (And it'd be an even bigger jump since the 7870 is pretty much a 270.)

One more thing i would like to be able to run 3-4 monitors my current card cant run more then two without an active display port adaptor.
@karlzhao314 I may leave it for another month or two but i did promise to give my current card to my brother so i cant wait to long.
As for my fps I currently get around 60-80 fps in a vanilla world with all my graphics setting on max but when you throw 70-80 mods into the mix it can get fairly bad (it probably dosnt help that i like to build massively complex bases full of all kinds of lag generating machines)
It has been a month since i made this post so i just thought i would check back to see if anything new has become available? Also my budget has increased to $500 so maby i can afford something that was previously outside my price range?

Too bad, i wanted to reccommend you the MSI GeForce GTX 770 Gaming. It's dead silent, supports all the games, and has the same price and gives you just as much bang for less bucks compared to the R9 290. source: http://www.videocard...h_end_gpus.html http://www.videocard.../gpu_value.html
(note: the MSI GeForce GTX 770 Gaming is a few percent quicker compared to the stock GTX 770 used to benchmark on this site, and can be overclocked on top of this)
No, the the 770 is comparable to the 280x, not the 290, and the 4gb edition is joke. Good job on Nvidia's part for not filling the $300-500 price range correctly

This however is a little bit slower, but is under your budget.

Both are still very good cards, and will be an upgrade from yours.
