Hi everyone. I found this laptop on a website, but I'm not sure if I will be able to do my school work and be able to play minecraft smoothly. The link is below.
Would I be able to do my school work and play minecraft all with this laptop? If not please post some other laptops, my budget is below $400. I'm trying to find a refurbished laptop that will run minecraft and do my school work. Many thanks
What kind of schoolwork? If its just checking some sites and using Word then no problem with that. However, no matter what kind of school it is, i highly doubt that a used computer (especially one that isn't all that great in the first place) could hold minecraft. Technically, you could play minecraft on ANY computer. But if its on a computer like that one, it will be excessively laggy and will not make it a very, well, pleasing experience.
Probably. Minecraft isnt really power intensive. You probably need to get more RAM for Minecraft to work properly.
Please just shutup about the whole "Minecraft needs alot of Ram" phrase you people keep splurting out. IT ONLY NEEDS 1 GIGABYTE OF RAMMMMM. 95% of the amount of computers in this world have atleast 2 Gb of Ram in them.
As for the OP, don't buy used laptops. They could be not working properly or malfunction. Hence why they want to sell it. Plus, even if the laptop was working properly the entire thing is trash. It has integrated graphics and an i7. You might want to find better deals on places like amazon and newegg.

The amount of memory used by an application depends heavily on what it is actually doing. In the case of Minecraft, the memory it uses is proportional to various settings- things like smooth lighting, fancy versus far graphics, and view distance are the bigger players. More loaded chunks means not only more loaded chunks in Memory but also means that there are going to be more random ticks; those ticks are not "free" either in processing time nor in memory usage, so using farther view distances can cause a large increase in the Early GC generations, as local variables used within those block ticks are constructed and go out of scope.
More importantly Applications and games do not run in a vacuum (Not since DOS, at least). If you run a game or program it has to share system resources with other applications, and this includes memory.
Now all that said? 4GB is plenty. I'd be skeptical of 2GB unless the software running at the same time is light. Usually Anti-virus and other security programs take a healthy hunk of system resources (quite a surprisingly amount, in fact).

Please give me suggestions if none of these laptops work. But remember my budget is below $400. I'm just trying to find a laptop that will run Minecraft at about 30-40 FPS. Thanks
If you're looking for something cheap, go for something with an APU. Buying anything with Intel graphics alone won't be very good. I ran Minecraft on a Haswell [Newest] i7 ultrabook with Intel graphics, and it played 15 FPS on small, 25 with optifine.
You need a 64 bit operating system to use all that ram anyway right?
Well yes 64 bit supports all ram
32 bit only supports 3.5gb to 3.7gb depending on your hardware, 32 bit is usually used if you need a special app. 64bit can also emulate 32bit.

No, just no.
The laptop you posted might be able to play it pretty well. The Intel Graphics aren't very good though.
I didn't post anything. You have quoted the wrong post.

This is the laptop I currently have, and it runs 40FPS on 10 chunks w/ Optifine, 5 other mods, and Faithful resource pack. For Minecraft, or any other games, even lightweight ones, I would reccomend something with dedicated graphics or an APU.
If you have the extra cash, get this laptop, it's a lot better than the one above.
