So, with the lightning speed at which Minecon tickets sell out when they are made available, I am discouraged that I will ever be able to go to the event I am obsessed with this game and the amazing community surrounding it, but I don't think I will ever be able to buy a ticket to Minecon because they sell out so fast. Oh well, hopefully the convention will be held near me someday, making it less expensive to attend.
Just some thoughts.Just realized this should have gone under the Minecon topic, sorry.
IMO, they should do the minecon tickets like they do seatings on the Green Monster in fenway park. Everyone enters into a lottery, then if you are picked you can buy the tickets.

Ever hear of something called running away? Its like running towards them, but without the confrontation and death.
capSAR273: Poor baby. Do you need a hug? Do you need a tissue for your sad tears? I know you are hoping people will feel bad for you. Many have beaten you to it posting their woes. And from what it sounds like, you would not go unless it was in NY anyway.
I got tickets. And I am so happy. I can't wait! Are you happy for me? I am flying down because it is not near Boston. The two in my party and I were on our computers and one of us got in for tickets in the first queue. It was awesome! We were so happy and I was just beaming with joy. Does that make you feel better?
Well, selling the minecon tickets was more of 'are you a bot or not?' rather than 'be on time or don't get one'. Many minecon tickets were sold over EBay which is illegal. Not having a bot block on the website is one of the worst mistakes mojang have ever. Oh well, these things happen.
Hopefully it will be in a bigger venue this year but remember, mojang lose money over minecon so they can't usually afford much bigger.

Wow, that was just mean. I know people make sob stories and all, but you don't have to reply like that. Maybe you not have gotten a ticket. How does that make you feel, does that make you feel sad.

Releasing more tickets makes it a bit harder to have a one on one time experience with some of the well known Minecrafters, if the convention was double the size, it'd get a bit hectic. I know not everyone agrees, but I think this is one of the factors when they plan this out.

To be fair.. a lot of the 'sold out' tickets weren't actually sold out. They were only reserved in the system for 10 minute intervals. I got my ticket about two hours past the 'sold out' point for the first batch.

technically there are no federal laws against buying re-sold tickets but that does not mean that I think there should be consequences that mojang enforces on people who participate in that; specifically the vendors if possible. But that aside, I got my tickets fair and square and I didnt need a bot. My point is its possible to get tickets legitamitley and its not just people with bots so dont blame mojang.
So far I've had a couple of conversions with people who have bought tickets (mostly for their kids) on ebay, so it definitely happend.
and while I've been too polite to ask, two of the people I spoke with told me that they managed to pick them up for 'not much more' than the original price.. one lady today me she bought hers on Thursday for LESS than the original price.
If you think about it, even forgetting the scalpers there was bound to be last minute delays/problems that stopped people going..
Unfortunately we live in a consumerist society and like it or not the quick or the rich win eveytime....
... If you want to hear more about how we should smash up the system and replace it with a much nicer, I'm having a meeting down at the docks at midnight... bring your own pitchfork/torch
I wanted to get tickets really bad, but my mom "Forgot" to purchase them when they went on sale back in August. Discouraged, I looked all over the internet to see if I could still get any. I found that you can't sell them becuase when you actually get to Minecon, you have to go through payment verification to see if you actually bought them from Mojang, and not from Ebay. So unfortunately I didn't get to go, and I don't get to meet my YouTube role models and the people that I work for...

Don't know what makes people think Mojang are losing money on this?
The total ticket sales are slightly over $1.1 US million and they have a tiny hall because they only have 7,500 people going, they aren't hiring the whole center that holds 45,000 people.
Alas Mojang have around 100+ million in the bank right now so they wouldn't be going broke next week because of minecon not making money.

they are loosing money because mojang purchased the entire islands of adventure theme park for minecon attendees only... o___o

im very sorry to hear that gizmosparklez, and it makes me angry that a rumor like that about the ticket verification actually stopped people from going... Anything you heard about that verification process was incorect. Because, when I went to minecon, they didnt even check the name on the tickets! They just scanned the tickets with an iPad to see if it was real and THATS IT! So think of how many more people could have been able to go by buying re-sold tickets... And if what Sebastion404 was saying about tickets being sold for cheaper than the original price, think of how many people could have gone who couldnt afford the original price. I also had a good friend who had an opportunity to buy a ticket for cheap later but she didnt because she was too scared she would be rejected.
In my opinion they should have it in a larger convention hall and have more tickets on sale.
Don't want to be seen at Minecon though
Absolutely not. This year's event was 7500 people and it was PACKED. Little to no chance of actually meeting your favorite Mojangstas or Youtubers in person. If they upped it to 10,000 of more attendees, it would be even harder. Not to mention that the lines were already outrageously long (some lines were HOURS long).

Ticket reselling may not be regulated on a federal level, but Florida law (source) says that you can not sell the tickets for more than $1 over their original price.

It can't be cheap to rent out the parts that they did. They also provided quite a bit of staff as well. But what really did them in was them renting out Islands of Adventure. The WHOLE PARK was rented out for about 4 hours.

Yes, the ticket sales are slightly over $1.1 million, but imagine how much it costs to rent out the convention center and Universal! If you estimate that it costs $100 per head to get into Universal, that is $750,000 right there and they probably paid even more to make it a private event. Think of how many (probably hundreds) of staff there are to run a park like that. I imagine it must've cost over $1 million also to rent out the OCCC venue for nearly a week (setup, two days of con, and teardown). In the end, I'm sure they will turn a profit because of sponsor money from all of the exhibitors, royalties from merchandise (ThinkGeek sold over $85,000 in foam weapons), and most importantly marketing hype. Conventions are very successful at promoting and legitimizing things, so I'm sure people on the fence about buying Minecraft or people who hadn't even heard of it will be out buying a copy for themselves now.
I remember after the first batch selling out that quickly, I was thinking of actually using a bot to buy just one ticket. But fate had other plans, and 1 of my 4 computers didnt crash. Wish bots could be used to buy just one ticket, to ensure access. Buut its illegal anywho.
